Ramirez is still owed about $4.4 million of his $20 million salary for this season, so dumping him now could save the Dodgers some cash. Or, they could agree to pick up some of the tab in exchange for prospects.
Either way, it would be a signal that the Dodgers are abandoning any hopes they might still have of reaching the playoffs. The team is 12 games behind San Diego in the NL West, and 6.5 games out of the wild card.
