Bus Drivers Authorize Strike Against L.A. MTA

The union representing Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus drivers voted to authorize a strike against the agency Wednesday night, according to The Bus Bench. The authorization gives the union an additional tool in negotiations with Metro; it doesn't mean the drivers will necessarily carry through with the threat.

Metro spokesman Marc Littman is quoted as saying, "No union leader has called for a strike. Negotiations are continuing with unions representing operators, maintenance workers and clerks."

The blog notes that bus drivers did strike three years ago following a battle with Orange County Transportation Authority chief Art Leahy ... who now heads L.A.'s MTA.
