West Hollywood officials celebrate gay weddings in June, 2008.
Unlike the summer of 2008, the city of West Hollywood doesn't plan to hold a major ceremony if U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker lifts his stay on the Proposition 8 ruling, which would allow gay and lesbian couples to marry immediately.

It's no one's fault, except maybe Walker's, who has yet to hand down a decision on whether or not he will continue a stay on his ruling that found Proposition 8 unconstitutional.

West Hollywood spokeswoman Tamara White says city officials are geared up and ready to go once, and if, the stay is lifted.

West Hollywood will set up appointments for gay couples to wed, but it won't be the kind of scene that took place in June, 2008, when the city decked out West Hollywood Park and allowed hundreds of couples to come to the park at any time to get married.

The problem is that no one knows if or when Walker will lift his stay, so West Hollywood can't prepare for a bigger event.

Gay and lesbian couples who want to get married in West Hollywood should contact the city clerk's office for more details.

According to White, West Hollywood City Clerk Tom West has already received numerous inquiries from gay couples about when they can get legally married.

Frontiers news editor Karen Ocamb has other details about gay weddings in West Hollywood.
