Teachers To Protest Outside L.A. Times Building; Union Fumes Over Newspaper's Educator Report Cards

• Teachers have been pampered for far too long by the Union. With LA paying out $150 million to teachers whom no longer teach for fondling students but can't be out right fired due to Tenure is pure BS. What other job gives you that power ? And we all have known or at least suspected that only the "good teachers" are the biggest influence on the kids. Not the politics, not the pander BS opinions of thier peers or supervisors. The proof is there that the actual "good teachers" are the only one's making a relevent difference. The losers supporting the "business as usual" crap are the one's fool enough to think throwing more and more and more money at the issue is going to change things. All it does is pad the wallets of the Union. And considering that 50% drop out in LA, I'd say they don't need some of the best pay in the nation and more money with that kind of performance. Your liberal / socialist gravy train has come to the end.

• The LA Times is supposed to report the facts. That�s not what they did by applying value-added measurements to student test scores. Experts in the field of assessment have condemned the Times for publishing their deceptive interpretation of these scores. I am a parent, and I agree with the UTLA. The LA Times has humiliated teachers with an inaccurate account of their effectiveness. The people of LA need to know the truth!

• Brilliant move by the teachers -- NOT. All they're doing is creating more coverage and attracting more attention to their own failure. If they'd just shut up, the story would disappear as people turn their focus to. . . the new Fall line-up of TV shows, or Paris Hilton, or a million other shiny objects. Dumb.

• Wow teachers being held accountable for their actions, its about time.
