UCLA 'Daily Bruin' Ranks Among Best Student Newspapers In The Nation

• Thank you, Dennis. But the operative word is "students" and in this case, the prime offender was the editor who would not correct this damaging statement. Why he wouldn't is beyond me especially after spending 20 minutes with him going over the offending article's mistakes. That all said, I loved going to UCLA which had a nuclear reactor that was unsecured with bomb-grade plutonium in unlocked file cabinets in south campus, along with an outdoor nuclear crematorium that charred highly fissile materials for 40, count 'em <i>forty</i>, years that sent radioactive gas into the air through an smokestack with no filters. The average amount of radiation that EnviroReporter.com calculated left the stack was two billion times current standards for such stacks. Those were hot days, oh yes they were. USC ain't got nothing on us with its petty (Reggie) Bush-league scandals. You the man, Dennis. The Weekly is all the better for your work and energy. It is pleasing to see LA CityBeat luminaries like you and Steve Appleford gracing the pages of the paper.

• The Daily Bruin stinks and taught this print and internet journalist never to give a newspaper interview, even if it's to your old university paper. To wit, when the DB interviewed me for a 12/07/06 article called "VA to investigate radiation in park," I gave a very green "reporter" an interview which she mangled in the aforementioned piece (about an issue we have covered in the LA Weekly as well). The second-to-worst part is that she falsely wrote that I had taken money from the government for my findings about the radiation in the park in this sentence: <i>The VA is spending a large amount of money on the investigation, including acquiring his findings, Collins said.</i> I never said anything of the sort nor did VA ever acquire my findings for money or anything else. It was simply false. And defamatory to me. The worst part was that the editor refused to print a correction, let alone apology, and this hogwash lives on the DB site today. The Daily Bruin continued to use this "reporter" for four years even with this major muff. Shameful. The Daily Bruin blows chunks and deserves nothing more than a mouthful of radioactive dirt courtesy of the VA's nuclear dump in Brentwood.
