Venice RVs Removed After Complaints Of Dumping Human Waste

The Venice RV fight goes on....
Update of update: The RVs are back on 3rd, according to an activist.

Update: Sgt. Jeff Merlot, LAPD Pacific, provides details of the operation to remove the RVs: LAPD was called at 10 Tuesday night by Dept. of Sanitation and Watershed Protection Division after discovering leaking septic tanks -- a discovery prompted by the cleanup at the 3700 block of Pacific. They moved the RVs away from the area of Rose and Third. Some of the vehicles didn't start. RV owners helpfully pushed. Streets and sidewalks in the area were power-washed. Merlot said six officers have been assigned to the Venice homeless issue. "We're doing everything we have with the resources we have," Merlot said.

Following allegations that an RV owner dumped sewage on a Venice street, authorities removed at least a dozen RVs from the area of Rose and Third avenues. That's relatively far, however, from the area of the alleged weekend dumping at the 3600 block of South Pacific Avenue along the community's more-tony Marina Peninsula.

This is just the latest chapter in the ongoing saga of the Venice RVs, documented last month by our colleague Dennis Romero. Many residents are tired of the homeless RV owners and want them gone or at least moved to dedicated parking lots, while other activists fight for their right to stay.

The Website YoVenice reports that hazardous materials crews removed the RVs with the help of LAPD.

Seems like the original dumping incident may have led to a broader investigation of RV dumping around Venice, which led to the bigger action of forcing out a dozen or more RVs.

We have a call in with LAPD Pacific for more information.

In other recent Venice RV news, one RV dweller aimed a piece of plywood at a local Fox affiliate reporter.
