The National Weather Service is warning Angelenos to expect "hazardous heat," with temps in the 100s inland and in the Valleys.

The city of Los Angeles is doing its part -- encouraging folks who need respite from the hot weather Monday to take shelter in "cooling centers" that include "Senior Centers, Recreation and Parks facilities, and Libraries" (PDF). Come again? We hope grandma and grandpa from Northridge don't croak trying to get into their local library:

The city's libraries are closed on Mondays! The Sunday and Monday closures are fallout from the city's budget disaster this year -- famously so.

A city library official confirms to LA Weekly that libraries aren't being opened especially because of the heatwave. So, no, don't head to your local library to escape from the heat.

According to the city, these "cooling centers" will indeed be open:

North Hollywood Senior Citizen Center, 11430 Chandler Boulevard, North Hollywood Sepulveda Rec Center/Mid-Valley Senior Citizen Center, 880 Kester Avenue, Panorama City Sunland Park Senior Citizen Center, 8640 Fenwick Street, Sunland Sylmar Recreation Center, 13109 Borden Avenue, Sylmar Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Senior Citizen Center, 5040 Van Nuys Boulevard, Sherman Oaks Wilkinson Senior Citizen Center, 8956 Vanalden Avenue, Northridge

These are places where you can chill out while you simmer over the city's controversial budget choices.
