Downtown Los Angeles posted a record all-time high temperature for the area -- 113 degrees, beating June 26, 1990 temp of 112 and reaching a peak not seen since record keeping began in 1887. The high was recorded at 12:15 p.m. It's the first full week of fall.

In Westwood -- an area normally hit with onshore breezes that counteract even the most stubborn heat -- a Monday afternoon a temperature of 108 was recorded. [Added]: Weho Daily reports that West Hollywood hit a high of 112.
