'Venice Poo Poo Blues' Video Criticizes City For Allowing 'Mobile Homeless' RV Dwellers In Beach Community

• Deville, your comments have some truth to them. What's happening in Venice is that, as Mr. Moss discusses, an entire population is being targeted as criminals because of the acts of a few. This is wrong. Further, the acts do not even have the benefit of full investigation. While I understand that our knowing leaders are trying hard to keep the flame from igniting too broadly, we still deserve a full, timely and authoritative reporting of factual events. Sadly, we can't expect that soon from our decimated and demoralized city government. On numbers: Most criminals live in homes, even in Venice. This "250%" is nowhere in the facts; most probably, it is a single number picked out among many, with an extra 100% added by a simple calculation error. "250%" is pretty scary. This kind of confusion fuels the current series of flames. The confusion is one thing that has to stop. We need real numbers, properly explained, with real dialogue to replace the incendiary pack-like dawg barking. On the subject of self-righteousness, it's worthy to note the example that much of Venice's drug crime is known to be committed by dealers who drive innocuous cars into Venice, do their business quickly and carefully on darkened streets with very private Venetians and then drive away. This classy business model certainly spawns saplings in the form of smaller street deals among the disenfranchised. As with any disease, eliminating the unseen source, who could be hiding behind the fence next door to you, will also cure the symptoms. As another commenter here said, always check all the facts before making any conclusions. Most or all internet blog sites feature reports of things said or quoted by others. Researchers of facts are educated in that field, and even then, they don't always get it right - we're all human, and subject to normal conclusiveness based on what gives us the most comfort. Two people can see the exact same facts at least two ways. Black and white is sometimes neither. Especially on the internet - which is a great place, the age-old adage "Don't believe everything you read" applies. People post many things for many reasons. Only verifiable reports have the truth - and even then, not always. In the scientific community, lengthy "peer review" is customary, with testing by diverse colleagues, often taking place over many years, before a new concept can be accepted as a theory, much less proven. The truth behind the avalanche of right and wrong information that bombards us now is often buried deep below the surface. We must each go there ourselves before judging others. Lastly, and to be clear: Those who question the current flow of angry activities in Venice are not "defending RVs" and certainly not excusing criminal behavior of any sort. They are simply pointing out that - especially in these hard times we all share - resisting the temptation to blame a group for the actions of a few is critically important if we want democracy to survive.

Terms like criminals, transient bums and gypsies have been used to describe the people living on the streets of Venice. Violent hateful speech Constantly bombards this minority community. Groups and sympathetic individuals that oppose these viscous rants have also been ridiculed by these misinformed hate mongers. Internet Blogs Radio and TV shows and open confrontations with police backup have been used to spread hatred in the community. People who want street People treated like the human beings are slandered and ridiculed. The Nazi Germans and other fascists took a special interest in the Gypsy peoples. They where rounded up and sent to concentration camps. Some Gypsies had two different colored eyes, one brown one blue. The German Scientists took special interest in these characteristics. Extremely cruel And useless experimentation where performed on the Gypsies. The recent events around an alleged dumping of waste on a city street is an example of fascism and spectacle designed to spread hatred towards a minority. The person who witnessed this alleged act has openly expressed hatred for the unhoused (homeless) and their friends. This person is a member of the local neighborhood watch and has been seen with a police radio supplied by the LaPD. Her posted rants on the Yo Venice Internet blog are misinformed and irrational. Mixing local politicians with private activists and legal workers. The people named in this rant have no more ties than to know each other�s names and to have attended meetings together. The people who post to this blog and other information sites know nothing about the people mentioned or the groups they work with. These are not the only truths in this story; there are many more. The moral is simple: Check your sources first, and then check them again. Speak what you know, not just what you hear.

• Killerweed and Venicepower: Nothing we are saying is "misguided" and we are certainly not "self-righteous." It is quite revealing of your agenda that you both choose to ignore the absolute FACTS of the violence against residents of Venice wrought by transients. IT IS A FACT that a transient committed RAPE and MURDER last year. IT IS A FACT that a transients STABBED a man in front of his girlfriend this year. IT IS A FACT that a transients KIDNAPPED and RAPED a girl. These are uncontested FACTS, verifiable via unbiased, professional sources. Killerweed and Venicepower, tell me I'm wrong. If these acts were committed by a gang you all would be up in arms- there would be news reports and task forces. Killerweed, these people aren't 21st century "Jews and gypsies" as you so propagandize- those groups were not murdering or raping the townsfolk. Your statement is entirely without merit and it's only purpose is to inflame anger. Venicepower, who do you think you are? Do you actually believe the city is lying about Venice's crime statistics or otherwise being misleading? Or are you simply trying to do exactly what you are crying out that is happening- blow enough smoke to obscure the truth? Do you deny that the horrible tragedies above have occurred? This is not prejudice, this is a legitimate concern for our safety and that of our families. We do not need to provide more bathrooms, as you suggest, in order to enable an element already proven criminal. What we need is enforcement of the existing laws specifically on the books regarding this situation. Yes, Venicepower, we will still have homelessness, but we should not have to shoulder the entire burden ourselves, alone, at the expense of our families.

• Mr. Romero deserves a little thanks for enabling a few of Venice's more ferile inhabitants to relieve themselves here. Providing an outlet for misguided frustrations - justified and otherwise - is never a bad thing, and is always better than forcing people to bottle it up until they explode. The same could be said of the long-standing confluence of issues that caused this frenzy du jour. While many positive avenues have always been available, people have focused, as usual, on the easy route, conveniently making natural, everyday excuses for ignoring natural, everyday failures that now boil over, thanks to a few incendiary residents, a few unfortunate events and an excess of bandwidth. One common item of agreement is the recession. Perhaps we should start there. As always - and all not kidding aside, the facts will win. When the substantially thick smoke clears, a number of truths - among them Venice's actual place in City crime statistics, the City's poor management of its infrastructure and the ultra-short attention span of residents who expect anything to happen without their committed participation - will, like the truths that make us all equal - become self-evident. We'll still have prejudice, we'll still have homelessness - but maybe, just maybe if we're very lucky and we exercise a modicum of tolerance with an equal measure of accountability - we'll have bathrooms where we need them and a little more wisdom about making better lives for ourselves and each other.

• Here are just a sampling of the things these transients have contributed to the Venice community in the last year or so: 1) Murder and rape of a pregnant woman 2) Kidnapping and rape of a 16 year old girl under the pier 3) Dumping of hundreds of gallons of raw sewage into the streets and directly into the ocean (3 additional dumpings last week that were caught and identified - we'll see if they're prosecuted) 4) Seven arson fires in Venice homes 5) Stabbings on OFW, beatings of residents 6) Theft of more bicycles than Helen's Cycles can stock 7) Numerous break-ins - cars and houses 8) Numerous "hot prowls" - people in homes at the time of the break-ins 9) Constant verbal terrorizing of residents, including threats on their lives These folks are not "down on their luck" homeless types just suffering from a bad economy. These people are an organized gang who are trained by a local church in how to avoid and evade the police. These self-described pirates choose to live off the grid because they want to live at the beach and they don't want to work. The only money they earn is from the drugs they sell and the lawsuits they settle with the City of Los Angeles. Not kidding. Why? Because our local politicians are in bed with Rosendahl, Trutanich and Villaraigosa. Linda Lucks also founded the lobbying group, Venice Action, that has undue influence over these politicos. So much so that the Mayor will meet with her but not with any other members of the community. None but Linda Lucks. We, the people of Venice - the ones who REALLY live here - have been begging the LAPD, our Councilman, our City Attorney and our Mayor to do ONE SIMPLE THING: Enforce the laws evenly and without prejudice.

• "Defenders of the RV dwellers argue that they have rights as Venice citizens and are in the community because they need services provided by the likes of the Venice Family Clinic." How are these people Venice citizens? By that logic, they might be citizens of Beverly Hills or Santa Monica if they chose to park in front of residents' houses in those neighborhoods. The only reason they do not is that those cities do not allow them to-<i> in order to protect their actual citizens!</i> Look, I am VERY liberal, I'm covered in tattoos, and I'm far to the left of 99.9% of everyone. I've also almost been attacked, chased away intruders from my apt building, had my wife harassed, and live within 3 blocks of the home where a transient murdered a pregnant woman last year. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP! The Dawg above is right- there will be blood eventually. We are afraid for our safety and tired of our rights being secondary to the comfort of the homeless- and we will protect our families. What I believe the important questions are: 1. Why can the police not enforce the existing laws on the books to prevent this? (ie, LAMC 85.02) 2. Who is possibly gaining enough from this situation that it behooves them to facilitate its continuation? How much violence must we endure before this becomes an issue? We have had MURDERS, STABBINGS, ASSAULTS, and TOXIC DUMPING- all proven to be committed by transients. Are we- the taxpayers, the voters- worthless?

• While this is a humorous take on the situation, this is a very serious and dangerous issue amongst Venice residents. If anyone wants to get a better handle of where this is coming from and where it is not yet going, log onto - www.YoVenice.com - and see what the residents are having to put up with on a daily basis. The most serious aspect of this ongoing tragedy is that our Venice Neighborhood Council is going ahead with coming up with additional services and more enablement for the RV "pirates" who literally squat on streets near homes, parks and schools and have little interest in proposed programs, using the local nonprofit social services as a mail drop for auto registration and to receive assistance checks, food, laundry, medical attention and networking amongst other "free living" pirates. There are laws against people living in cars on the street but the City has been reluctant to enforce them for "political" reasons and attempts to regulate nightime parking have been dashed by the California Coastal Commission under heavy lobbying by the local RV dwelling advocates and the social service lobby. None of this nonsense goes on right across the borders in either Santa Monica or Marina del Rey. Venice is being discriminated against by the City, The County and the State, with much of this funded by the Feds. Visitors are now starting to complain about how dirty and bum-filled Venice has become... and citizens are now buying guns and high-tech security systems. There will be blood.... recently a Canal resident was awakened by someone throwing a brick through his front window to steal an empty purse - It is time that the City re-evaluate this misplaced compassion and rid Venice of the RV "pirates" and criminal street/beach dwellers and use enablement funding to help people who need and want help rather that provide a playground for criminals, slackers and "pirates."
