A married couple strangled to death at their house in Hawthorne on Wednesday, Oct. 20, were identified as Robyn Turnage, 57, and Leamond Turnage, 69.

Their bodies were found at about 3:45 p.m. in a house the husband's mother owned on the 4100 block of West 142nd Street, near Rosecrans Avenue in Hawthorne, after family members asked police to check on them, Sheriff's Deputy Mark Pope told City News Service. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The L.A. County sheriff's bureau announced a suspect at 10 a.m. this morning:

John Wesley Ewell, 53, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of committing the murders. Ewell is also suspected to have caused the fatal heart attack of 80-year-old Hanna Marcos in a home-invasion robbery on Sept. 24, according to sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.

The Turnages' nephew, Tim Braebrook, told the Daily Breeze that all authorities found missing from the couple's house were their credit cards. Relatives also mentioned that one body was found outside the garage and another inside the house, both badly beaten.
