Mayor V. with President Obama.
That fatal collision involving a school bus in Boyle Heights provided too many television news cameras for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to pass up. Late Monday afternoon he seemed to be there just behind the ambulances.

And on Tuesday morning he will check out a student assembly at nearby Roosevelt High School, where some of those 18 crash survivors were students, before heading -- yes -- on a school bus to the East L.A. Skills Center.

Because while this mayor and his publicist-heavy staff of 200 could barely muster a few votes in a recent online Daily News poll about his performance, while he's been mostly unapologetic about his acceptance of free sports and entertainment tickets from some of the city's richest companies, and while he's stood by as libraries are unavailable for some of these same students on Mondays, there's TV time to be had here.

Out of his way, people.

As we've noted in the past, Villaraigosa is publicity shy.
