Beach Access In L.A., Pot-Smoking In The Wee Hours And All, Works Just Fine
It looks like the city of L.A. and the state of California are locked in another battle, this one over the hours people can visit local beaches. L.A. has had a curfew from midnight to 5 a.m. for about 30 years.

But the California Coastal Commission says it's not right -- Golden State residents should have access to their coastline pretty much 24/7.
As we reported Friday, the commission sent two letters to the L.A. City Attorney saying L.A. has to clear any curfews with the state body.
If L.A. has any particular problem areas -- parking lots, certain beaches -- the state will work with it and let it have limited closures, commission executive director Peter Douglas indicated to the Weekly.
Still, our commenter of the day, Nate, says there's no need to bicker over access to the sand. Things are fine, as-is, he says:
Is this really an issue? I ride from Venice to the end of the bike path in Malibu weekly all hours of the night with my buds. Its a nice spiritual cleanse to ride our road bikes and smoke J's on the beach. We've been doing it the past 3 years and not once have we ever been "kicked out" or let alone seen police patrol at night. If anything just the ranger driving down the beach.
