Vote For One: An NFL Stadium Downtown Near Staples Center, Or One In The San Gabriel Valley, In The City Of Industry
It's not like you have much of a choice: Two of Southern California's most-powerful developers will duke it out until the best man wins. But if you did have the choice, what would you pick:
Majestic Reality An artists rendering of the Industry NFL stadium.
An NFL stadium at the Convention Center complex downtown, next to Staples Center and LA Live, and accessible by light rail? Or a state-of-the-art football venue in the San Gabriel Valley, in Industry, with plenty of parking?
Both factions, Staples Center boss Tim Leiweke and Majestic Realty principal Ed Roski, have said their venues, in downtown or in Industry, respectively, would be able to host World Cup soccer as well. ("We should be the soccer capital for the world cup," Leiweke told a Town Hall meeting last week).
Both have said costs to taxpayers would be minimal to nil.
Our commenter of the day, ScorpionLeather, says the Industry proposal would fit SoCal's car culture better:
Roski's plan in the City of Industry is better in just about every dimension, and at least people would be able to tailgate before the game and it wouldn't involve a complex financing scheme involving taxes and bonds. The downtown LA plan in this article would be in such a congested location. Roski's plan is waayyy better.
Which would you vote for -- a downtown venue pitched as environmentally friendly and near the center of LA Live's sports-centric zone, or one a little further out that has plenty of room for tailgate parties?
