U-C-L-A: pay-pay-pay!
Hey kids. You know the whole California state budget problem that's been festering since you were in diapers? It's all your fault! And now, of course, you'll pay.

That's the message Thursday from the UC Regents as they followed their counterparts at the California State University system and decided to (once again) raise your tuition -- this time by 8 percent. (Lucky you).

You'll have to kick in the extra cash starting next year.

The new cost of a UC education -- once the envy of the world for its mix of affordability and high quality? $11,124.

The UC Regents gave middle-class and poor kids a break, however, voting to provide grants to kids from households with less than $120,000 in annual income. The grants would cover the extra money needed to keep attending next year.

Regent Eddie Island said that since he's been on the board tuition has gone up 50 percent -- worse than the price of gas.

"Shame on us," he said.
