The L.A. Coliseum Commission voted earlier this month to let the raves go on at the publicly run Coliseum and Sports Arena.

A San Francisco assemblywoman begs to differ when it comes to the safety of the events.

Legislation introduced this week by Assemblywoman Fiona Ma, a Democrat, would ban the events on public property (sorry Coliseum Commission) and require those on private property to have specific permits.

The bill, AB 74, is expected to be heard in committee next year.

Ma specifically cited last June's ecstasy-overdose death of 15-year-old Sasha Rodriguez, who had attended June's Electric Daisy Carnival at the Coliseum.

"Raves foster an environment that threatens the health and safety of our youth," she said. "The introduction of AB 74 is the first step toward eliminating these dangerous events."
