Illegal Immigrants' 'Anchor Babies' Took $53 Million In Welfare Services In L.A. County In 2010

Anchor babies get paid on your dime?
Ah, the plight of the so-called "anchor baby," those children of illegal immigrants dropped on U.S. soil like a red-white-and-green flag (because we assume here that European, Asian, African and other immigrants don't do this).

They're a thorn in the side of some, and on Tuesday Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich released data Tuesday showing that children of the undocumented in Los Angeles County received $53 million in welfare.

The number includes $31 million in food stamps and $22 million from CalWORKs, he says.

Antonovich crunches the numbers and says this amounts to $1 of every $5 spent in such welfare in L.A. County. The $53 million is also $3 million above the same costs for 2009.

The sup:

"When you add this to $550 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for healthcare, the total cost for illegal immigrants to County taxpayers exceeds $1.6 billion dollars a year - not including the hundreds of millions of dollars for education."

Of course, these are legal citizens whose heritage is parsed in the name of anti-illegal-immigrant fervor.

What do you think?

Giving welfare to Illegal immigrants was forced on California. We voted in Proposition 187 in 1994 that banned welfare to illegal aliens and the courts and Bill Clinton negated that vote, promising to fix illegal immigration at the federal level. Sound familiar?

Secure the border. Start mass deportation. Issue work visas with the stipulation that any violation of law results in revocation and this problem goes away. We hold the cards, lets play them. Caught working without the work visa? /two weeks forced labor, caltrans, graffiti cleanup, scrubbing the filthy sidewalks in South Gate, and then deportation. Wake up people, PC is surrendering this country to savages without a shot being fired.

Lol.

I'm as legal and american as they come. And you're a nutjob.

Also, your awesome ideas sound like an awesome way to get your awesome city burnt to it's awesome foundations. Why? because there are hundreds of thousands of people who are sick of having their constitutional rights stripped so that you can find some other guy. I don't need to prove I'm a citizen, you need to prove I'm NOT.

Boy.

Is there any sane debate possible on this issue without being seen as either:

A. A racist if you dare point out the economic costs of illegals or

B. If you defend the humanitarian aspect of accepting illegals and their hard work and contributions to the economy, you are seen as "La Raza" or "Mexican" etc.

supplement to q A, tho: will you be labeled as an apologist if your research leads you to believe that the taxes unauthorized immigrants pay very nearly equals what they "take" in public services? It is a well-documented fact, for instance, that their contributions to the SS fund run an annual surplus of 7-8 billion dollars - and they are not able to collect any benefits at the Federal level.

IMHO, there is an issue with the *way* that tax revenue is handled. By my calculations, the Federal Government ends up with MORE money by the presence of unauthorized immigrants, while localities (such as LA County) end up with LESS. Yet the mandate that these services be provided is - if I understand correctly - a Federal mandate.

One solution: find a way to distribute the $500 billion dollars that has accrued since 1986 in the SS trust fund to the localities (such as LA County) most financially burdened by the Federal Government's confused immigration policies. There is an especially good argument for this if the Federal gov't continues to stymie state and local attempts to deal with the problem in their own way (AZ).

The impact of Illegal Immigrants out weighs the cost. Illegal Immigrants contribute to the economy by taking low paying jobs and purchasing goods. They make a great impact on agriculture by picking the fruits & veg on "our" tables, and construction, ...we need to understand the impact that the U.S has had on Latin American countries and how this has contributed to the flow of Illegal Immigrants. Immigration reform should be on the priority list to end this battle. We are all human beings and everyone has the right to pursue happiness...

Do these figures really come as a surprise to anybody? Mexico breeds 'em, US feeds 'em. I say send Mexico the bill. This is all part of their Reconquista. Man up, US; before the invasion takes over and turns all of LA into another crime infested shantytown.

No, that's right, you're talking out your ass and trying to use fancy words and big historical analogies you don't understand.

We are left with two logically consistent choices. All other choices have no basis in consistency.

[1] Take the legal citizen children from their illegal parents. Put these children into foster care. Deport the parents illegals.

[2] Because children lack majority status and thus legal standing in their own right, only a parent or guardian can make legal choices for children. Until legal citizen status children reach the age of majority, deport the entire family, as the illegal parents have no standing basis to be inside the U.S.A. When the legal citizen status children reach the age of majority, allow for entrance back into the U.S.A.

---

The current practice of allowing illegals to remain in the U.S.A. because of anchor babies is logically inconsistent with U.S. law and thus the practice should be ended.
