U.S. prosecutors are officially backing up Mexico's request to bring onetime Survivor television producer Bruce Beresford-Redman back south of the border to face murder accusations related to the death of his wife.

On Monday the U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles, Andre Birotte Jr., filed papers in the case requesting extradition and court hearings in the matter.

Mexico wants Beresford-Redman to face the music in the death of his wife, Monica Beresford-Redman, who was the owner of Palms Brazilian eatery Zabumba.

The producer was charged with aggravated homicide in Mexico after his wife's body was found outside the hotel where the Rancho Palos Verdes couple was vacationing with their children in April.

At the behest of Mexican authorities Beresford-Redman was taken into custody at their South Bay home in November.

He's been fighting extradition.

Hearings on the matter haven't been set, but a stateside judge will ultimately decide if Beresford-Redman is sent south (with a possible one-way ticket).

Good news? If convicted, Beresford-Redman wouldn't face the death penalty. Mexico doesn't have one.
