Battle in Rancho Mirage: Progressive Activists Aim to 'Uncloak' Billionaire Koch Brothers
Charles and David Koch, the billionaire brothers who helped bring you the Tea Party and Proposition 23, are convening with other super wealthy Republicans for what was supposed to be a secretive meeting in Rancho Mirage near Palm Springs this weekend.
Charles and David Koch
They were going to chat among themselves about the direction of the United States in relative peace, but that secret wasn't kept for long and those plans are dashed. Now groups such as the Los Angeles-based Courage Campaign and California Student Sustainability Coalition, among many others, are going to confront Chuck and Dave and protest in the streets.
CSSC Campaign Director Gabe Elsner, who was featured in a recent L.A. Weekly cover story about his group's successful effort to stop the Big Oil-friendly Proposition 23, says in a statement:
"These billionaires are spending unprecedented amounts of money to elect politicians who will promote greater profits and fewer rules for insurance companies, polluters, banks and mortgage companies... We need an economy that works for working families and a democracy where people count more than profits and big money."
So California Student Sustainability Coalition, Courage Campaign, Common Cause and a slew of other groups, activists, and ordinary folks will whip out the placards and whistles, march in the streets, and hold their own discussion titled "Uncloaking the Kochs."
Should be quite the shin-dig.
