For all further updates, including the police report, see "Reggie Doucet Jr, 25-Year-Old Hollywood Model And College Football Star, Shot To Death By LAPD In Front Of Playa Vista Home."

Update: Police say the victim was a Playa Vista resident -- black, in his 30s, about 6 feet tall and 180-200 pounds. He has been identified, but notification of relatives is still pending. The man had just taken a cab home from Hollywood when he was killed. Originally posted at 8:43 a.m.

After L.A. County Sheriff's Deputy-in-training Mohammed Ahmed was shot in the face on Tuesday night, law enforcers seem to be feeling extremely jittery, on-edge.

Whether that's to the point of blunder has yet to be seen -- but one more Angeleno is dead this morning in Playa Vista, just two days after Ahmed's critical struggle with East L.A. gang member Nestor Torres, who was also killed.

LAPD officers screeched up to the scene a little past 3 a.m. (just after the bars let out), responding to a "disturbing the peace" call outside what news reports are calling an "upscale beach condominium" on the 5600 block of Crescent Park West in Playa Vista -- a small, affluent community just below Venice Beach and Marina Del Rey. According to KTLA, the now-dead man was fighting with a taxi driver who had driven him there. He then stripped down to boxers when police arrived and tried to detain him.

The man, who apparently took a taxi to the location, began stripping off his clothing and running around naked.

A witness said she heard screaming and commotion outside her window as police chased after the naked suspect. At some point, the suspect put on boxers.

Playa Vista resident Monica Vogelbacher told a news crew: "I heard them try to detain him and he would not comply and there was a fight, a physical fight, and then I heard two shots."

There is no evidence, so far, that the man was carrying a gun. However, two officers from the LAPD's Pacific Division are currently in the hospital with injuries from their struggle with the unidentified victim.

The suspect was pronounced dead immediately after arriving to a nearby hospital.

Another sign of the tense atmosphere: Two more West Traffic Division police officers, who were rushing to the Playa Vista scene, crashed their patrol car at about 3:30 a.m. in the 4200 block of Centinela Avenue.

So firefighters then rushed to that scene, prying the LAPD officers out of the car and sending them to the hospital in ambulances.

All four officers -- the ones who killed the naked man and the ones who crashed while speeding over for backup -- are in stable condition. We'll keep you updated on their status and the identity of the civilian victim.

The CBS2 report:

Some more details from the Los Angeles Times:

Two officers responded to a disturbance in the 5200 block of Crescent Park about 3:30 a.m. and were confronted by the man, who was not wearing any clothes and was yelling at officers, said LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith.

The officers calmed the man down and talked him into putting on his boxers, but he ran away when they attempted to apprehend him. A scuffle ensued and one of the officers shot the man twice, Smith said.

The cops could have tazered the guy or used there batons or pepper spray. They did not have to shoot the poor bastard. If the court does not give these guys justice the black community should!I would rather see these cops get what's coming to them then another los angeles riot where some poor bastard driving a truck gets the crap kicked out of him. by a mob and peoples businesses and homes get burned down.If cops that shoot unarmed people start dropping they might think twice next time.

The suspect in this case was behaving erractically, was at one point naked (an arrestable crime), was involved in a physical confrontation with a taxi driver (an arrestable crime and possibly a felony depending on circs), and then refused to comply with commands by police. So they had to restrain him and then he fought the cops. Here's a fact: In cases where police officers are killed by firearms, it is often with their own gun. A gun on a belt during a fight can be a liability. It's very easy for a suspect to grab. I don't know the circumstances of the case, but this guy resisted to the extent that both cops were hospitalized. This isn't a murder, this is a case of self-defense.

seriously????? they were out within hours and one had a sore jaw....that hardly qualifies as being hospitalized. Isn't it convenient that after all is said and done now he was going for their gun...sounds like a afterthought to me. I do know the victim and he would not hurt anyone unless he was feeling threatened.

His name is Reggie for those of you who keep referring to him as the naked man, guy on PCP, etc. I think it is interesting that people assume he was on something. He was at a club...did anyone ever think that maybe someone slipped him something? OR maybe we wasn't on anything! He was a good kid and came from a good family. My children went to school with him and they are heartbroken. I cannot even imagine what his family, especially his mother, is going through right now. There was NO reason to use deadly force on an unarmed man and for those of you who agree with this police brutality, shame on you! What if it was your child? Reggie had a lot of promise and we ALL make mistakes. His mistake (if it even was one) just happened to get him killed.

Police should be able to handle drunk naked man without killing them!!! If that's how it should be done a lot of people would be dead!I thought I lived in a safe neighborhood!

I've known the victim almost my whole life. I can almost 100% guarantee that he was not on PCP. Just saying.

This was unreasonable and unnecessary force. And now the family and friends of this bright young man have to live without him. I hope his family hires a good attorney. This is just not right.

"ALMOST 100% guarantee that he was not on PCP"??? Not COMPLETELY confident.

To "anon, 21 minutes ago": It also seems Pacific Division suffers from a combination of boredom and large-scale paranoia if they believe that motorcyclists are "dangerous anarchists". The ones I've seen in my area (Sherman Oaks) are perfectly happy to go about their business and not bother anyone.

Huh? Naked people on the street are now such a deadly threat to the community that they should be shot dead if they resist the police? Well, maybe we should lobby for naked-people registration at the local naked-people store.

These are probably the same things people would have said about Jared Loughner at the Tuscon Shooting. You never know about people's actions.ā€ŽIt doesn't matter how close the damn station was, every month LAPD has less then 500 officers thanks to council cutting their budget $100 million.

I like how it is assumed the guy was on PCP. Maybe that will be the case... but even so, the 'super-human' strength that they teach you about in DARE class is exaggerated, as almost every fact related to the so-called drug war is. But that is irrelevant here.

There is not any reason, on a cul-de-sac, with the police station literally 4 minutes a way, with no bystanders in danger, secured buildings literally lining the streets, for the police to chase a guy down after they allegedly calm him down (which is what they alleged to have happened) then, after they cannot subdue him (god forbid the guy just runs away and you get in your car), they engage him without backup, and shoot him to death because they misjudged their ability to do so. They could have just let the guy go home and sleep it off -- he supposedly lived on our street.

To me, that is an execution that arose out of shoddy training and police work. Deadly force should not be used when all that is occurring is a property crime. PCP or no.

Were you there, Anon??? Funny, both in the above article nor the blogs mention YOU were a witness or were present when this happened. If not, I'm just curious on where your 'expertise' on dealing with violent suspects comes from??? Personal experience is it? Interesting...

Get with the REAL WORLD, Anon (R&B singer?!?!?)! Wake up and smell the freakin' coffee. Can't wait til the toxicology reports come back on this.....maybe it was PCP, maybe alcohol. Who cares? Probably not a good idea to turn and fight the police, giving them the many options of dealing with you. Pull your head out!

The station might be four minutes away but officers are out and about patrolling all of pacific division. A big division. Backup response time will take a bit and I'm sure that call went out when he started fighting and said I'm not going to jail. Believe it or not cops are human and not super heros.

No cop will shoot to protect property. They shoot to stop the imminent threat of bodily harm or death.

And are you really serious about the cops letting this guy go? Have some common sense. There is a reason why they didn't let him go. My first clue is that he's naked.

You realize that the police said he put his boxers on? So... not naked. The guy lived on the street. (I suspect that a racial angle is going to emerge).

Yes, I am serious about letting him go versus killing him. That is the law. Would you rather have a dead guy and a lawsuit or a few insurance claims? The police have stated that they "calmed him down" and got him to "put his boxers on." So, not naked, calm. He apparently wanted to bail at that point, he didn't listen to them, they went after him, which is reasonable if he posed no threat to them physically. He then resisted arrest. One cop seems to have a "sore jaw" because of it, and how the guy is dead.

As far as PD having not enough officers, that is a laugh out loud. PD literally sent 20 cops to sweat a bike rider in one of those big bike ride parades not long ago -- around the corner. I have photos. I sent them to Rosendahl's office. 5 cars, 6 motorcycles, two vans, a bike cop. 2 hours. When I called the officer in charge over there, asking why this obviously unarmed guy required all those officers, I was informed that the cyclists were "dangerous anarchists" and that the cops "were really watching each other's back." Pac Division has demonstrated that it is amply staffed and that Jefferson Blvd is heavily patrolled. If anything, PD is overstaffed.

My informed speculation (I have spoken to people at the scene here) is that the police on the scene were a couple chumps and not worried because it was just a noise complaint. The situation escalated because the guy was intoxicated and agitated. Then, they think they can subdue some guy 2 on 1 but they actually need to get physical and someone gets punched. Instead of acting with restraint (this is not Fallujah) one guy panicks and shoots the guy.

The department should quickly investigate and hang him out to try if that is the case. Fired; and then subject to criminal prosecution. If there are facts that exonerate him then those should come out and quickly (they probably would already be out if they existed). What should not happen is to attack the victim in the media, cover up the evidence, and sweep it under the bureaucratic rug. Unfortunately, the LAPD has shown for years that it prefers the latter approach.

Police are the ones who need to express better gun control.

Its easy for people to say what LAPD should have done and could have done without knowing all the facts. I've witnessed guys on PCP and other drugs literally fighting with officers twice their size and almost winning. Its like a miracle drug to suspects on it. People always criticze the officers but if that suspect would have hurt so many others they would be complaining why LAPD didn't shoot him. Officers killed in the line of duty is up 37%. LAPD Officers being assaulted by suspects up. Interesting people don't say crap when an officer is killed in the line of duty protecting and saving others. Get a grip people

If a naked man is kicking the officers butts they have no other option than to use deadly force.

Believe or not. A naked man on pcp can be extremely dangerous. Not saying he was on pcp, but why is this dude naked.

During a struggle a police officer's weapons could possibly be taken and used against him. Look at the facts.97%+ police officers work an entire career without ever discharging his/her weapon. Cops never want to discharge their weapon but if imminent life is at risk, they are completely prepared for that situation.

Gezz.. hasn't the LAPD ever heard of stun gun? that man should not have lost his life for being naked. Police are the ones who need gun control..

I am certain the old woman on our board of directors (this is my building) will back up the cops... but the facts don't look good -- naked people aren't allowed to be shot. I hope the man has family and sues - pacific division is a real problem.

U r nuts Anon! There is NEVER a perfect situation in dealing with these erratic type of people who are obviously 'hopped up' on something....the police officers are not robots...a perfect situation with the police pulling a taser from their back pocket or retrieving one from their car (don't they have enuf equipment on their belt? Can they even walk with every tool imaginable?), while chasing a man on foot around a building, and having the suspect turn and fight, is not always possible and your knowledge of what the police can and can't do is obviously minimal at best.
