Said Jaziri.
Said Jaziri, a controversial Islamic cleric who had been deported to Tunisia from Canada, was caught east of San Diego after he was allegedly smuggled into the U.S. from Mexico earlier this month, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

Jaziri was a Montreal imam who led Canadian protests against against a Danish cartoonist who made light of the prophet Mohammad in 2006. That cartoonist received many death threats.

Border Patrol agents allege they found the 43-year-old in the trunk of a suspected smuggler's BMW near the border east of San Diego.

The Times reported he was being held as a material witness against the man charged with smuggling, Kenneth Robert Lawler.

Authorities said Jaziri paid Tijuana smugglers $5,000 to come across.

The cleric's supporters say he has been wrongly targeted for his fundamentalist views. It's not clear why he wanted to get to the U.S. so bad (he was reported to have flown from African to Europe to Central America before taking a bus to Tijuana).

The Times reports that he told smugglers to get him to a "safe place anywhere in the U.S."

Jaziri has said he would face torture if sent back to Tunisia.

Thedracle,The fact is he entered the country illegally. He didn't ask for a visa. He paid someone to smuggle him into the United States. He should be treated the same as anyone else who enters the country illegally.Stop complaining about asylum for religious radicals and do something constructive to tame the radical Muslims who are killing innocent people. If you don't like our flavor of democracy, pack your bags and move to a Muslim country that understands you better.

When are we going to grow up as a species and stop following and squabbling over the silly superstitions of religion (judeo-christo-islamo, hindi, bhuddist, whatever, take your pick)? It amazes me to no end how supposedly intelligent educated rational reasoning adults continue to believe in such fairy tales to the point that we get into the stupid predicaments like this one! I have to admit, though, I about pissed myself laughing at the silly muslims getting pissy and killing stupid christians over a freaking cartoon! roflmfao! I mean, get real, use some logic, if there was really any of these gods out there I would have been a pile of smoking ashes years ago for the things I've said and done (or not done) and this world would be a much different place than it is now! As is, it just shows that if all your gods do exist then they're either totally indifferent to us all or are all completely impotent to do anything about their competition. IMO, the sooner all the religious wingnuts all kill each other off the better off this planet will be... just do me a favor and don't screw up this wonderfull planet for the rest of us while doing it, huh? Oh, and using a human as an 'instrument of god' doesn't count as proof of potency, let's see some writing in the sky, everybody hearing the same voice saying the same thing at the same time, the tides stopping, or some kind of actuall manifestation of a hand of a god that is undoubtable and not just some silly human trick? No?... I didn't think so! There is more to the heavens and this mudball than was ever written in any 'holy' book by mankind! Get real, get a real life, and get over this crap, people!! Oh, and as for this twit, he should be treated the same as any other illegal immigrant that was caught, no more, no less, by the book, no special treatment, no fanfare, just deport him back to Tunisia or Cannada, or whatever country will take him as I don't want US tax dollars supporting the idiots needed to guard him at an already tax expensive unconstitutional gitmo! (we should rename the place Bushs'mo in dishonor of the two idiots who stuck us with such a mess!)

Canada actually deported someone?

So, is it now impossible to seek asylum if you're a religious radical? Said Jaziri led 'peaceful' protests in Canada. He also vocally supports implementing Sharia law- and it is his right to do so. I think this article's boastful nature and insinuation that Jaziri is in some way a terrorist is ridiculous. He was deported from Canada, on a technicality involving an assault charge in France, to Tunisia. He's married to a Canadian woman, and they tossed him out of the country into a now politically unstable Tunisia. It's sort of ironic he's running scared from a Muslim country, with a government more similar to the one he desires for Canadians, for asylum in a secular democracy that he's so strongly against in word and practice. Regardless, we are a Secular Democracy, based on religious freedom and the value of all mankind- even those as confused as Said Jaziri.

Advocating Sharia law is tantamount to inciting violence.

But I suppose you consider that justified. What do I know, I am just a dirty khaffar!

I show you the bottoms of my feet!

I eat pig!

I recognize the right of women to vote, drive, speak, wear what they want, work, hold office, go to school, never have acid thrown in their face, never face genital mutilation, marry who they want, divorce, have equal treatment under the law.

Continue to advocate tyranny. Yes, you have a right. Just don't expect much tolerance when you are baking under the Cuban sun for the rest of your life.

We do fight back. We have a right to defend ourselves from tyrants, mullahs and anti-woman hating men who put their hands in their best friends back pockets as they walk down the street. (I am not talking about homosexuals. I am talking about Muslims)
