The officials who control the publicly owned Los Angeles Coliseum on Wednesday gave the green light to a controversial annual rave, Electric Daisy Carnival, with the caveat that only 75,000 ravers are allowed per day.

That's down from the 100,000 who crammed into the Coliseum on the second day of the event [added] last June. EDC got into hot water when a 15-year-old who had attended the rave died of an ecstasy overdose.

A tip sheet from the county on how to rave safely

The commission had already decided to let the four-times-a-year raves go on at the Coliseum and sister venue Sports Arena, but voted to have all such parties impose an 18-and-up policy with strict ID scanning.

But even after that rule was enacted we reported that the New Year's Eve rave at the Sports Arena, Together As One, saw IDs go unchecked.

But the parties make up nearly 30 percent of the venues' revenue, and the commissioners have noted that times are hard when it comes to public finances.

Commissioners continue to say the parties, which routinely report dozens of drug-related emergency room visits, are on thin ice.

Ravers are "coming here for a culture to do drugs," said Commissioner Rick Caruso at today's meeting. "We know that ... And we're taking potential resourses (police and firefighters) away from the community."

But so far the ground is holding for Electric Daisy Carnival.

This year's two-day event is scheduled for June 24 and 25 at the Coliseum. Last year's event drew an estimated 160,000 people over two days, including 100,000 on Saturday.

The parents of the late teenager Sasha Rodriguez are suing the commission and might sue EDC's promoter.

you cant die from an ecstasy overdose. she drank too much water. and suing the promoters and commission wont do anything because it was the moms decision to take her off life support 2 days after the event. so its not like she died at EDC. plus people do drugs everywhere, not just "raves". i know people who use ecstasy at school.anyways im happy theyre still allowing events here.

Great news! EDC is a fantastic event. It's simply the best electronic music festival in the US!!!I feel it should be a 21+ NO KIDDIES PLEASE!

I went to EDC this year, as a 16- year old and i had a wonderful time! i thought it was a great experience, and because i had both my parent's permission to go, and friends over 18 who wen with me, i had a safe and fun time.

I think that if the company is worried about irresponsible teens entering the event, they should make it necessary to have parents or guardians sign admission waivers, and/ or make the minors enter the event with someone over 18 that the parent/guardian has approved in said waiver.

I believe that making the event an 18+ experience will only encourage people to try to break in, use fake id's, and steal other's identities.

Los Angeles is already a very dangerous city, and what will happen to those teens who buy tickets, travel to LA, and get hotels? when they are not allowed admission they will be spending those two nights, not in a secure event, but out on the streets of Los Angles, where they could suffer much more terrible events than in a controlled environment full of security, paramedics, and watchful eyes of fellow ravers.

i believe that the event should remain 16+

I'm happy to hear they're going to chop down the crowd. If they keep the same amount of space and have that sized crowd, there may be room to dance ;)

yes i agree that they going to make them all 18+ and we don't have to be seeing so many little kids all over the place and hopefully they keep their word about more security and I.D checks because i don't want them to ban them ever! but now on the other note about the little girl...sueing EDC promoter for the death of their daughter? ok no offense and i really mean no offense and yes i feel bad for the parents to lose their daughter but SERIOUSLY!?!?!?!?!!?!!!!!!! that little girl wasn't even supposed to be at EDC in the first place!!! all ages mean 16+ and she was 15yrs old. no one made her take the pills, it was her decision and her money to buy the pills in the first place. its harsh to say it but your pills, your problem. that just shows what happens when you let a little kid into a rave and she decides to pop. honestly the parents need to realize that it was their child's fault for being there and she took the pills. it was her decision to take the pills and look what happened...STOP BLAMING EDC, STOP BLAMING RAVES, STOP BLAMING RAVERS!!! get your stuff together to think about and realize who's to blame. honestly get your act together, whatever happens to someone is because of their decision and thats it! parents sueing EDC promoter for what happened? that is super ridiculous!!!!!again no offense but thats how i feel.

"The parents of the late teenager Sasha Rodriguez are suing the commission and might sue EDC's promoter." WOW really?? where were you when your 15yr old daughter was out doing drugs??? It is not their fault that your daughter was doing drugs, its yours. Sorry to sound harsh, but really it was the parents fault. Its dumb how parents like to point the finger at other ppl when their child makes mistakes. It sucks that she isnt here, but maybe you should of spend a little more time teaching your kid about the dangers of drugs...

why the hell is she suing?? her parents shouldn't of dropped their 15 year old daughter off in the first place... idiots

im on u on the suing.but her parents didnt drop her off,her parents didnt even kno she went.she had asked them but her parents said no nd she snuck out like most average teens do when there parents tell them that they cant go anywhere.srry for the lost but its just bs that theres no more 16+ EDC or any type of insomniac raves.

I'm so sick of this hypocritical attitude towards raves!! I'm turning 52 this week. I was in my mid 20s when raves first hit the scene. I lived it, so I know! It's been the same BS since! Blame the raves!! Anyone ever heard of Len Bias? He was a basketball player drafted by Boston who OD'd on cocaine and died! It's not like everyone didn't know about the use of drugs among top athletes! Hours after his death, Bias' college coach Lefty Driesell ordered his team-mates to get drugs out of his dorm room! Did anybody blame basketball? Colleges? The NBA? No! Raves are just an easier target to mess with. Like anywhere else, drugs are a personal choice. I've been to hundreds of raves in my day and never chose to do drugs. Those who do have to take personal responsibility. And parents have to be parents to their own kids! Stop this hypocrisy already!

its funny how the parents r suing because they didnt go a good job of controlling their daughter and she ended up dying. its not the companys fault. if anything it falls right on the parents and their daughter too.... i dont think she would be blaming the company if she was still here... she would have enough sense to know it was her fault.

Again...people OD ANYWHERE, not only at raves. So it's now 18+ and if you're still getting hospitalized, it's on YOU! not the promoter and not the commission. If there are still minors there, again, it's NOT the commission or promoters responsibility to babysit, just like in Sashas unfortunate case. L E T. I T. G O. A L R E A D Y.

Awesome! Good decision LA...let the good times continue! And let's be safe this time everyone. Nothing stupid like gate crashing and overdoses please.
