'BEAT LA' Banner Over Dodger Stadium, Planned Gift From San Francisco Fans, Elicits Typical L.A. Apathy

Come on, Dodger fans.
Update: "SF Giants Fans Behind 'Beat L.A.' Banner Say They've Paid a Plane Company to Fly Giant Diss Over Dodger Stadium."

We're not sure what's sadder, the fact that San Francisco Giants fans are planning to fly a "BEAT LA" banner over enemy territory -- Dodger Stadium -- for the season-opening series against the Bay Area team or that virtually no L.A. fans really care to comment.

In fact, most of the comments on our report this week came from in-your-face Giants fans. Come on, L.A.

A Bay Area crew is aiming to raise $8,000 to fly the banner above the stadium during the three-game series March 31, April 2 and April 3.

Giants fans had a field day with this, arguing that the Dodger faithful are so lame they show up late to home games and leave early.

Our commenter of the day, SFGWorldChamps, says:

"Don't worry. They'll fly the banner over before the third inning and after the seventh. That way there won't be a single Dodger fan there to see it."

Anyone care to defend L.A. fans? Anyone at all?

Hello, we are not doing this because we are disrespectful. We are doing this because we are proud. Does it ever occur to Dodger fans that supporting your team through thick an thin is what keeps the team going? Yeah the Dodgers are going through a divorce.... blah, blah, blah. Maybe if the Dodger fans had as much passion as us Giants fans things could be a little different for them. The energy at the yard is felt by all, including the players. Our banner is our way of sending our energy to our players on your opening day, and our first game since we beat Texas! You Blue and White people should try it sometime! Go Giants! BTW I love ORANGE and BLACK, and wear them with pride WS Champs or NOT!

I live in the Bay Area and grew up in Southern California. Throughout my time living in both regions I have been able to compare and contrast the fans. Since being up here I have learned the strong animosity and hatred SF has for LA. You hear it all over the radio on KNBR, "the hated Dodgers.." referring to the Anaheim as the "toilet bowl." Living in LA I recall never hearing such degrading remarks or comments on San Francisco. Not until you live in San Francisco you realize how pathetic these sports fans are. I figure it's the envy and jealousy these sports fans have for the lack of a championships or successful teams until last years Giants. Last time they've had a successful franchise was the Niners. When you look Southern California, you've had: Ducks 2007Lakers: I don't need to list the yearsAngels: 2002

All this success..compared to 1 title year. This hatred I encounter daily only forces me to hate these Bay Area teams and root for every team it opposes.

Way to completely ignore football... Don't worry, LA will get an NFL team back eventually...

49ers? Super Bowls XVI, XIX, XXIII, XXIV, and XXIX

And you can't include the angels unless you include the A's. I hate the A's but their World Series championships speak for themselves...

Keep it between the Dodgers and Giants rivalry. It's all in good fun so move on. Better yet... move out. I live in LA for 10 years and was constantly haggled by Dodgers fans. I'm back up in SF now and loving life. Go Giants - WS Champs!

Sad SFjealousofLA. In order to have made such a post you must have never even attended a Dodgers game in LA against the GIants while you were there. Not surprising though, every time they show they ballpark on TV most of the seats are empty.

Growing up in SF, had Giants icons on my wall as a kid: Mays, Cepeda, Mac, Gaylord Perry, Marichal, etc. But, spent summers in LA with my Dad, who taught me about BB. Great games, great rivalry, and great announcers like Scully and Doggett. When he moved back to the Bay Area, I can remember him turning the tube radio a certain way on clear nites so we could listen to Giants/Dodgers games on LA radio. I learned to respect "D'em Bums!" as much as I hated Dodger Blue, and loved my Giants. Back then, and for many years, Dodgers rarely bought players, as they had the best farm in baseball. Last year, I couldn't help but notice a story title up in the header of my server, when it read, "10 Biggest rivalries of MLB", and starting from the bottom like Letterman's Top Ten. In case you haven't already guessed, or felt it in your bones over all these years, the number ONE greatest rivalry in Baseball, above all, including Yankees/ Red Sox, or Cubs/ Cards,. or any you can think of....was Giants/Dodgers.But, if we must compare the two fan bases.....with all the credit given to Dodgers for winning more Championships, has there ever been a celebration in LA like the Giants Parade in SF? no? ....oh....well, on more thing, for those of u in la la land, here is a name u can look up now, or read about this summer: Brandon Belt.

Seriously!? Give us a taste of what it's like? Have you NorCals lost your effing minds or have you forgotten you SUCK!?

Top Ten Reasons LA Does Not Care:10) You're still the Giants9) Blue Pride8) Your team hasn't done s**t since New York7) You still wear Halloween colors6) 19595) 19634) 19653) 19812) 19881) We're LOS ANGELES, bitches!!!

Wasting $8,000 on some misguided sense of team spirit is an absolute waste of money that would much better be spent on charity...say, sending foster kids to those games, or how about donating it to ThinkCure?

You "Faithful Supporters" need to use some of those donations to buy yourselves a clue.

And have you not realized that your fan base has given up? I mean it's really sad how the only comeback to this event is that Dodgers fans are complaining and saying they would never do such a thing? And you know what? You are right. You wouldn't because you don't have fans that are actually into their team. You can't even come close to selling out a Giants vs. Dodgers game in LA. I'm sure once the Lakers start sucking you will stop showing up to their games too. That's not a fanbase. You don't show up just when they are winning.

Dodger have the best starting line up in the NL aside from the Philies. San Francisco will just ride the win just like Angel fans did when they won. Both teams have 6 titles to their name. So it nothing to cheer about. The only reason the giants came to California was because Walter O'Malley asked them to move and follow his team when he moved from Brooklyn. So giants fan ride your championship for one year because that already last years news. Its a new season and a new year.

TakeitLoveit!

BTW our rivalry started when both teams were in NY. Unfortunately, defense is more important when (and if) you get to the postseason. Not quite getting your point.

Wow that's some BS! I'm a diehard Dodger fan and that just shows SF's lack of respect for fellow teams.. If we came up to there home turf & did something of this nature they would be up in arms. Yes our team has had its ups & down this last season, but to say that our team has no connection to the city is untrue! Just wait & see the LA fans rally!

If it looked like the Dodgers players cared it would be easier to care about this. But this team has zero connection to this city. I live two miles from Dodger stadium and never feel inclined to go to a game. Maybe once the owner situation is resolved, and they get in some quality players they will be watchable again. But right now they could land on that field with the banner, and a hundred Rockettes and no one would care.
