Ilya Salkind went missing Sunday or Monday.
Update: He was found and he's mostly okay (no kidnapping was involved). A family statement:

We have learned that Ilya was taking an stroll and had an accident. He was taken to a hospital and unfortunately he didn't have his cell phone with him and communication lapsed. Mr. Salkind's condition is stable and we hope to have more information from his doctors shortly. He is expected to return to his home in Los Angeles soon.

The man who produced the 1978 Christopher Reeve blockbuster Superman and helped give life to two sequels went missing after visiting a family home near Mexico City, according to his relatives.

Ilya Juan Salkind Dominguez, better known as Ilya Salkind, was last heard from Sunday about 8 p.m. after phoning associates in Los Angeles, according to a website his concerned family members set up.

He was staying at a family residence in Tepozlan, which about an hour south of Mexico City.

When Salkind failed to show for a dentist's appointment Monday family reported him missing.

According to the site:

"It is not known what Ilya was wearing other than his black clogs / shoes. Ilya was reported missing to Mexico authorities by his lawyer in Mexico after Ilya's was not found at his home by the grounds - caretaker and after failing to return to his dentist's office for a second visit."

Salkind produced Superman and Superman II with his late father and went on to executive produce Superman III, according to the site. The father-son team also produced The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers.

Salkind is still active in Hollywood, having produced last year's Young Alexander the Great.

With drug wars raging in Mexico, some organized crime members have turned to kidnapping rich folks in the country as a money-making sideline.

So far, though, there's no indication that this is the case here. No one has reported receiving a ransom request.

If you might know where the 6 foot, 3 inch Salkind is, you can contact family through its website.
