23-year-old Vanessa Fulladosa was killed on the 405 in the wee hours of February 18
Updated after the jump: Friends and family remember Fulladosa as a "beautiful person," and more witnesses of the crash come forward.

Update: The crash actually occurred at 11:43 p.m. on Thursday night. More details about the other driver, and Fulladosa's last moments, after the jump.

A Palmdale woman killed in a traffic accident just before midnight this morning has been identified as 23-year-old Vanessa Fulladosa. She was driving south on the 405 freeway in Long Beach, according to the California Highway Patrol, when her Mercedez-Benz stalled in the fast lane just north of Bellflower Boulevard.

A car coming up behind Fulladosa apparently couldn't stop fast enough (though the accident's exact circumstances are still under investigation), because she was rear-ended harshly enough for her to die at the scene of the crash.

According to Fulladosa's Facebook page, she's a graduate of the University of California, Riverside and a resident of Palmdale, where she once attended Highland High School. The 23-year-old is currently listed as an account executive for Ivy League Apparel.

Her last Facebook activity was a status update posted from her iPhone just one to two hours before the fatal accident.

If you knew Vanessa or have any more information about her tragic death, please share below.

Update, February 18, 12:30 p.m.: A CHP officer says Fulladosa called 911 to report the location of her 1997 Mercedes just before she was hit.

However, within a matter of seconds, a 34-year-old Long Beach man in a 2010 Mitsubishi Galant came up behind her, traveling at about 65 mph. According to the officer, the man "failed to observe the 1997 Mercedes stopped in front of him and collided into its rear."

Fulladosa's boyfriend, Alex Hercules, tells the Weekly that he received a call from her at 11:51 p.m. He says all he heard was a "whispery sound from her voice," followed by a loud cry -- and then everything went silent.

"I said hello multiple times, with no response," he says in an e-mail. "I hung up, called back multiple times, [but] no answer."

He says he then tried calling Fulladosa's sister -- to no avail -- and lay awake for a long time, worried about his girlfriend. It was only when he woke up this morning that Hercules finally found out what had happened.

"She was trying to reach me for help, but by then it was too late," he says.

R.I.P.

Update: The victim's father, Craig Fulladosa, comments below that "Vanessa loved life and really lived it to her fullest. Smart, kind and considerate she respected all things, people animals, the environment. I will honor her life by continuing her legacy of goodness and respect for all."

Another commenter, Touched, says Vanessa Fulladosa sent a text to her daughter just one hour before the crash: "I met your daughter and she was indeed a beautiful person, considerate and respectful. My daughter went to school with her (UCR), received a text an hour before the accident, and was looking forward to their plans for this evening."

A b, who claims to have been a witness, says, "I came upon her at approximately 11:45 in the Carson area by Alameda just before the curvy part going into Long Beach. She looked as if she was coasting to a stop but not doing more than 25mph."

And another witness, Milo, claims to have called the police: "I too had to swerve last minute to avoid hitting her. My car almost went out of control. I looked in my rearview mirror and saw the crash occur and called 911 at 11:53 pm."

Memories of Fulladosa keep flooding in. Here are a couple:

Victoria says, "I had class with her at Highland High School in the IB Program and played soccer with her. I haven't talked to her for a long time, but can still hear her laugh. This is terrible news. She was such a happy person with so much energy..."
Jen says, "She was a great motivator and team player. She was always on top of her game and encouraged us to play at our best. She had the voice of a leader and had the presence of a captain. She was a sweet and funny young woman and wish I could have met her sooner."

A spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol says she doesn't know why the investigating officer didn't include the other driver's name in the accident report. That officer wasn't in the office for President's Day, but we'll check in with him again tomorrow.

Normally, though, when those involved in an accident aren't identified, it's because investigators have found they're not to blame for what happened and don't want to tarnish their name.

Hannah's Sister
Hannah's Sister

My beautiful sister was killed the night after Vanessa's accident on the other side of the 405. As the anniversary has drawn closer I find myself thinking about your family and Vanessa, and the heart wrenching pain that goes along with losing a family member in such a senseless way. You're family and Vanessa have been in my prayers since the moment I found out about her accident which was hours after I found out at about Hannah's. Hannah lived such an amazing life, and did so much in 21 years of life, yet I would still give anything to have her back. The 405 needs to be made safer, there needs to be lighting on it at night, especially at the stretch these accidents happened.

We met Vanessa through a mutual friend and instantly we liked her. Such a funny, sweet person. Very thoughtful she always talked about her family and especially was excited about her nephew. My daughters really enjoyed her company and our family was very sad to hear of her passing. Vanessa will forever be missed by the Cervantes family.

To all of Vanessa's family and friends, I am sorry for your loss. I just heard about this and I am so shocked. She was a really good hearted person who enjoyed the time she spent with everyone. I remember hanging out with her back at UCR and we met through mutual friends. There were a lot of good times hangin out at the apartments and dancing. I didn't stay in touch after leaving Riverside, but I always remembered you as being a great, strong, happy woman. Rest in peace girl.

So tragic. I carry road flares in my car for this exact reason. Everyone should do the same. When stalled in a dangerous spot, light one and throw it out the window and every car will see the bright red flare and they will slow down. Flares used to be more common decades ago but for some reason people don't use them as much anymore. But these kind of accidents occur too frequently to not use them.

It's a sad tragedy to see such a beautiful and caring person have their life taken from them at such a young age. I knew Vanessa as she worked on a few of my Photo shoots while she was at UCR. I am still in shock and feel terrible for her family. My prayers and thoughts are with you Craig and your family.

I just heard last night from my sister about this tragic accident and my heart dropped to know that it was someone I knew and for a big part of my life. I've known Vanessa since junior high and throughout high school we played volleyball together. I have'nt talked to her since graduation and everyone went there separate ways, but it kills me to know that her life was cut short. She was a beautiful person inside and out, and she and her family will be in my prayers.

People leave, but memories last forever*

I'm in shock, and deeply saddened by Vanessa's passing. I heard her voice last on Wednesday 2/15/11, she was a client for our company. She had so much going for her, so much determination. Always came here to our company with a smile and always very professional.

She had a wonderful laugh..........she will be missed. My condolences to her family, her boyfriend, her friends, co-workers, to everyone who knew Vanessa.

This is so sad and tragic. I'm a UC Riverside student & a lot of my friends know Vanessa. I feel an obligation to now expose this "34 year old from Long Beach" who so far gets to remain anonymous. His life should be scarred & judged accordingly. He must have been going way more then 65 MPH this late at night, to not slow down enough to not kill Vanessa on impact. She had her flashers on... He was texting, or talking....If anyone knows the name of this guy, email it to me so I can put together a story. I'll dig up his phone records if I have to. dollarscholar33@att.blackberry.net

Its been about a year since i met Vanessa we were both playing is the same team in a San Bernardino league. Thanks to her we got to finals and won 2nd place. When i heard what happen i quickly remember every single goal she would goal she would score and how far were getting. Now knowing she is not here, its hard to go back and play but we are doing it for her because that is what she loved to do.

I would like to send my condolences. I did not know Vanessa very well. Although I did have the opportunity to meet just her last thursday. The half hour I spent talking to her she did make a great impression on me. She was very nice and respectful and very out going and talkative. I left that day and was glad to have made a new friend. My prayers go out to her Family, Boyfriend, and Friends.

Vanessa was my daughter. She was everything a father would want in a daughter. We are from Palmdale though, not Pasadena. Vanessa loved life and really lived it to her fullest. Smart, kind and considerate she respected all things, people animals, the environment. I will honor her life by continuing her legacy of goodness and respect for all. Take care my daughter you are in my heart forever.

She was a model woman. My daughter Bonnie, my daughter, went to high school with her and was in the IB program also. I still remember her beautiful smile. She came to my house for Bonnie's babyshower Feb 5th. Everything just seems like it's not real. My prayers go out to you and your family. Vanessa achieved everything she wanted in life and indeed she lived life to its fullest.

Casey- your sister, Hannah was beautiful. How did these accidents so similar in nature, occur so close in time and in distance on the same freeway to amazing girls of such a young age? Do you have any idea what was wrong with her vehicle? I ask because my Suzuki acts funny with respect to starting and stalling and it's rather new. I feel for both families. Auto accidents are occurring too frequently this year. I hope you find peace.

Casey
Casey

as of right now, we don't know much about the accident as I'm sure this family doesn't know much as well. There was nothing wrong with her car, and none of this horrific crash was her fault. She did everything right, she never used her phone in the car, she was always very cautious and made sure to pay attention to the road. she was mature beyond her years, at 21, Hannah never acted even close to how most people that age act, she was gorgeous, intelligent and I hope I will end up just like her. The article about her is inaccurate and I've been having a lot of issues with trolls on these sites and spend a lot of time fighting to get things changed or removed.

I hope Vanessa's family knows that my heart and thoughts are with them while we all deal with these tragic, unexpected times, and they are more then welcome to contact me.

Please get your car checked out. That is not normal and not a problem Hannah ever had with her car. I wouldn't wish this kind of pain and grief on anyone, and would hate for you to ever be caught in a situation similar to these.

I feel terrible. I came up behind here in the fast lane with her flashers on and going very very slow. I also had to swerve to keep from hitting her and all I could think was this was going to end tragically if the car did not get over to the right side.

I am a captain at United Airlines and have been driving between LAX and San Diego since 1997. I am all about the time because I let my family know when I will be home and I check in with them periodically during my drive. My timeline is this... I parked at the gate at 10:58. Said goodbye to most of the passengers and went to catch my bus at 11:20ish. I got in my car at 11:30 and started for home. I came upon her at approximately 11:45 in the Carson area by Alameda just before the curvy part going into Long Beach. She looked as if she was coasting to a stop but not doing more than 25mph. The car did not seem to have a flat tire . I was surprised to hear that the accident was near Bellflower and I actually thought it was a different car until I read this article. Again I am so sorry for your loss and if anything qualifies for a terrible accident, then this is it.
