Jose Guadalupe Jimenez Allegedly Raped 12-Year-Old While He Was Dressed as His Clown Alter Ego 'El Tin Larin'

An alleged clown rapist on the loose for 9 years was behind bars this week.

Authorities claim 41-year-old Jose Guadalupe Jimenez, who performed as a clown under the name El Tin Larin, raped a 12-year-old girl in his get-up 9 years ago in Fullerton.

Police there say they arrested him in Newport Beach today after they found that his DNA matched evidence from the crime.

They got him on a felony warrant that alleges lewd or lascivious acts with a minor.

Cops say that the suspect donned a clown mask and makeup when he kidnapped the girl, drove her to a school parking lot, and raped her shortly before midnight on Jan. 19, 2002.

Then he allegedly took her to a motel on Harbor Boulevard and molested her some more.

She ran away when he went to talk to the motel clerk, police said.

It was considered a cold case until the DNA hit came up recently.

A DNA sample was collected from Jimenez last year after he was arrested on suspicion of -- you guessed it -- felony child abuse in Anaheim.

Unfortunately, because of the suspect's day job performing for children, cops fear there could be more victims.

Fullerton police Sgt. Andrew Goodrich:

Who knows how many other possible victims there might be,. We're hoping that any past victims might recognize him, both with or without his clown makeup, and come forward.

Jimenez was being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Update: On Monday the Orange County District Attorney added charges that included, according to City News Service, "a felony count of aggravated sexual assault of a child and a felony count of forcible lewd act on a child."

The suspect's arraignment was postponed until April 22.
