Measure M, Marijuana: Election Results

Categories: Election 2011

L.A. voters are on their way to approving a 5% tax on marijuana sales at the city's dispensaries. With 40% of precincts counted, Measure M is passing by a margin of 62-38.

Theoretically, this could bring in $10 million in revenue. Realistically, it's likely to face a legal challenge from the dispensaries, so don't count on seeing this money any time soon.

What does this say about Angelenos' attitude toward medical marijuana dispensaries? Well, it brings to mind the words of that great sage, Ronald Reagan...

"If it moves, we tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And, if it stops moving, subsidize it."

Will other prescribed medicines now be taxed too? How about reaping needed revenues through the elimination of tax loopholes that allow those with lots of money to avoid paying a fair share?

Yeah genius fucking idea L.A, let's become a rouge state by taxing a federally illegal schedule 1 drug, while at the same time criminalizing it. If you ain't legalizing don't tax it, you cannot collect dividends on a product and arrest the same people using that product at the same time, that's criminal and illegal. The drug war is a failed policy that must be abolished.
