Ravers at EDC.
If you're still looking for work after nearly three years of economic malaise in Southern California, a controversial L.A. rave promoter might have a job for you.

An recent ad in Craigslist states that a crowd management company is hiring 700 security guards, ticket takers, ushers and more at the behest of L.A. based Insomniac Events. Unfortunately for you the gig is one-time-only. And it's in Las Vegas in June.

Insomniac moved its annual mega-rave, Electric Daisy Carnival, from the L.A. Coliseum to Las Vegas after much controversy over ...

... it's crowd management.

EDC drew about 160,000 people over two days. It also saw people get injured and crushed, 200 medical emergencies, 60 arrests, and the subsequent death of a 15-year-old girl who had taken ecstasy.

Insomniac promised many improvements this year, including increased security and an 18-and-older policy at the door.

But its lobbying efforts to get the Coliseum Commission to approve another EDC seemed to flatline after the Los Angeles Times revealed that the Coliseum's events manager was also double dipping as an Insomniac employee, which is possibly illegal.

The president of the Coliseum Commission, David Israel, withdrew his support for the party, and EDC left town.

Now, after all that you would think that the party would have some strict hiring standards.

But the Craigslist ad states, "No Experience Necessary / We'll Train You!"

Another reason why LA Weekly has a lovely yet quickly shrinking elderly readership.

Dennis, do you have a personal vendetta against Insomniac? Your post is highly biased and has no merit at all. If events don't happen legally, they will happen underground and more people will die. Not allowing events such as these does nothing to the drug problem. Kids will do drugs and kids will overdose, just more of them in "underground" warehouses. Start being responsible and looking at issues from both sides.

Clearly all the "trained" security personnel from last year worked out well.

Did you ever think about working for christ wire dot com? Their level of analysis is about right on par with yours.

It really is strange how easily and consistently journalists take the shoot first and ask questions later approach. Ask some questions, please. You will find out how completely off-base and propagandist your column really is.

This event is in Vegas Dennis why are you reporting it? Why do you keep trying to bring this event up? As you can see its been moved from LA so why keep beating a dead horse? Are you going to keep bringing up raves that are not here in Cali? Where are your reports on Ultra Music Fest, Ibiza, Sensation White, Sensation Black, and all the other "raves" around the world? If its not in Cali then don't write about it. The company you work for its called LA Weekly not Las Vegas Weekly.

Notice how not one person looks panicked in the video except the security guards. HAHA! I had so much fun at EDC.. I hope one day they bring it back to the coliseum. Such a life changing experience! People need to realized that Rock & Roll and Hip-Hop went through the same thing that EDM is going through right now. Society did not accept it but sooner all later they have no choice but to accept it. Dj's are going to keep making new music and people are going to keep partying.. generation after generation. People will also continue to die due to their choice and of natural causes. LIVE WITH IT party on bitches!

what exactly are the qualifications needed to be a writer for LA Weekly? This guy is ridiculous.

You're an old yenta not a journalist. Stop twisting things around and making it seem like something its not, you are so ridiculous!

The ad states:

Candidates MUST HAVE: A valid Nevada Registration Card in accordance with Nevada PILB rules and regulations per NRS 648 OR the ability to obtain one.

In order to get the registration card the candidate MUST PASS AN EXAMINATION through the state board

So if the security staff completes the security officer regulation training course provided by the compant and passes the state examine please explain why they are not qualified??? Who do you think should provide the security? Green berets?

And why dont you go report the $42million dollars and hundreds of jobs that Los Angeles lost out on by EDC moving to Las Vegas? Or does everything you report have to be one sided propaganda?
