Porn Star Health Records Leaked, Might Have Come From L.A.-Based Industry STD Testing Service Known as AIM

Sasha Grey's records might be out there.

A big deal was made of a months-old leak of porn stars' health records after Gawker connected the breach to the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation in an "exclusive" first reported by porn blogger Mike South.

South figured out that the already known list of 15,000 names (allegedly) could have only come from AIM's database of porn-star STD tests.

That database was fairly widely accessible because ...

... AIM set up a system where producers could check to see if a particular performer's tests were up-to-date online.

In fact, the legality of such a system (you're not supposed to be able to access someone else's health records under federal law) was challenged by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation last year. AIM wants the porn industry to adopt condom use instead of using its testing database.

Anyway, South figured out that if you've been an adult performer in the San Fernando Valley in recent years, your name and test information is out there for all the world to see -- likely via a leak of that widely accessible database.

Here's what he writes:

I verified two people, then two more both of whom shot only one time, but were required to get an AIM test. All made up a performer name and of the four two never even used the same name on a model release and one never even shot, the shoot fell through. Yet all the names and hundreds even thousands of others appear on this real name list on this site.

The list was first made available at Pornwikileaks.

The big question is, who cares? While we surely wouldn't want our medical records out there for the world to see, porn stars have certainly shown us much more of themselves.

Update: AIM spokeswoman Jennifer Miller told this to NBCLA today:

I can't stress enough, we're victims of a crime. Just like the Pentagon and the FBI, we have been victimized and hacked. We are investigating and we will press all charges.

(Press charges? What is this, a 1950s crime show? We guess she means that they'll ask authorities to investigate and prosecute).
