iPhone Snitch? There's an App For That, and It's Connected to L.A. County Law Enforcement

Do tell.
In the hood they say snitches get stitches. But what if they can tell all with the push of a few keys on their iPhones? You'll never know, pelon.

This could change the whole game, player. Look here, my snitches, the L.A. County Sheriff's Department announced this week that it is now hooked up to the recently released TipSubmit iPhone app (it's for Android too).

Wow, it used to be you'd have to literally "drop a dime" (and get shot if the bad guys found you at the phone booth). This is some slick virtual snitchery:

According to a sheriff's statement ...

... Users of the free app may continue to submit secure and anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers programs, law enforcement agencies or school safety officers and administrators. The TipSubmit applications serves the greater Los Angeles area, local, state and federal law enforcement agencies utilizing its fully integrated anonymous crime tip reporting and management system, TipSoft.

Can't stop won't stop (if you have an iPhone).

They say it's better than "Text-a-Tip" (we didn't know Text-a-Tip existed) because -- and this is a little scary -- it knows where you are (via GPS) and can notify the appropriate cops.

In other words, if you're in East L.A., you don't want the Santa Monica police to get your tip. You probably want the Eastside-based sheriff's deputies to get it. Right? Thought so.

Wow. This is also scary: You can attach images and video and even chat in real time with investigators.

This thing just turned everyone with an iPhone into a narc. Thanks Steve Jobs. (They should have called the app iSnitch. Just sayin').

It's at the iTunes App Store or TipSoft.com. And it's free. (Street cred? Priceless).
