Marijuana Dispensary Could Open at Site of Former Library in Atwater Village

Check it out, buds.
A former city library in Atwater Village could become quite a symbol for what's wrong in the city of L.A.

You see, budget woes have forced City Hall to shut down libraries on Mondays. And L.A. leaders have, after years and years of grappling, still failed to come up with a lawsuit-proof way to limit the number of marijuana dispensaries in town.

And now the two issues meet as it is rumored that the ex-library will become ...

... a pot shop!

That would be something. Kids in the area might not have anyplace to go after school on Mondays, but if they're 18 they can hang out at the dispensary. (Even kids under 18 in California get get weed if their doctors and parents okay it).

(To be fair L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's latest budget proposal would open the library branches back up on Mondays).

The shop might go in at 3229 Glendale Blvd., according to Atwater Village News.

The building housed the community's public library for 36 years starting in 1953.

Here's a question: If the city has limited the number of dispensaries to those that were opened before a 2007 moratorium and which then win an upcoming lottery, how the hell is a new one opening up?

This, friends, is what we call a teachable moment.

Hi, Matt Jacobsen here... I see theres a lot of confusion on this matter (even on this board - when in reality its a very simple process).

If you want to open a dispensary get it from the horses mouth. Ive personally opened six in California.

If you want to know how to do this, get the free newsletter Ive written for this exact purpose at www.start-a-dispensary.com on how to open a dispensary

Ask away if you need additional help or questions.

Well if they just taxed dispensaries then the libraries could stay open. But don't worry I'm sure this dispensary will have some first class reading material, hopefully like mine. I wrote a book to help people get in the dispensary business, check it out.

As Atwater Village Newbie says, no one is closing a library to open a pot shop. The current library is down the street and well loved. Way to spread misinformation! The "old" library is now an empty storefront.

The library moved from that location in 1989.

It still sits at its new location up the street, 3379 Glendale Blvd.

Just so no one gets the idea that the city is closing a library to open a pot shop.

Cause it isn't.
