Porn in America is a Human Rights Abuse in China's View: Agree?
China has a problem with porn. Our porn.
Is porn a right, or a human rights abuse?
Being that we're in the adult video capital of America, we have to sit up straight whenever a world superpower calls us out for an industry that is a staple of Los Angeles.
Here's what the annual Chinese Human Rights Record of the United States paper has to say about L.A.'s favorite one-handed business:
Pornographic content is rampant on the Internet and severely harms American children. Statistics show that seven in 10 children have accidentally accessed pornography on the Internet and one in three has done so intentionally. And the average age of exposure is 11 years old - some start at eight years old (The Washington Times, June 16, 2010). According to a survey commissioned by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, 20 percent of American teens have sent or posted nude or seminude pictures or videos of themselves. (www.co.jefferson.co.us, March 23, 2010). At least 500 profit-oriented nude chat websites were set up by teens in the United States, involving tens of thousands of pornographic pictures.
Wow. That is a problem.
Sure, China's sour because the U.S. calls it out for its own sad human rights record.

And while we think children should not have to eyeball Charlie Sheen's girlfriends, not being exposed to porn isn't exactly a human right (is it?). Just ask the folks at L.A. city's public libraries, where you are, in fact, allowed to view porn, because doing so is seen as somewhat of a First Amendment right.
This actually points out the fundamental differences between America and China. Porn is a right here. It's a human rights violation there. We vote American in this battle.
No wonder so many Chinese come to L.A. It's the land of adult opportunity (and we mean that in the best possible way).
