YJ Draiman, Dad to Disturbed's Lead Singer: Top 5 Reasons Unknown Underdog 2013 L.A. Mayoral Candidate Is Freaking Interesting

YJ Draiman
So far, four candidates have announced they will be running for mayor of Los Angeles in 2013. When you announce, it gives the green legal light to start raising funds to campaign. YJ Draiman, one of the four, is not a widely known name, but he is certainly interesting. Here are the top five reasons:

5) His son is Disturbed's lead singer, David Draiman.

4) People don't trust politicians. And he agrees: usually, they shouldn't.

"We have a major problem with voter apathy," Draiman says to L.A. Weekly. "A lot of voters said: 'politicians promise us the moon, they don't deliver, all they care is for their own pockets.'"

"We need some fresh blood there, come on lets be realistic," Draiman tells the Weekly. "We need somebody who is not part of the machine, somebody who comes from the community."

Draiman is an elected member of the Northridge East Neighborhood Council.

3) He's a Ron Kaye Clean Sweeper: a campaign to run the bums out of City Hall.

Though, the Clean Sweep slate didn't fare as well as we would have liked in March 8 city elections, the fight wages on.

"The problem is that I would have expected in this past election to have some councilmen in this city changed," Draiman tells L.A. Weekly. "Unfortunately, the machine overcame, you know, people that wanted change."

2) He KNOWS$$ his clean energy. And he has a plan to help Los Angeles save much needed money in our $350 million deficit.

Draiman hails from Chicago, where he was a developer during a time that, he says, taught him the hard way about saving money.

"I got involved in the energy market," Draiman says to the Weekly. "In the late 70's mortgage rates hit like 18 percent. The only way to survive was to look at ways to cut costs."

"They call me an expert these days," Draiman says to the Weekly, with some hearty yet honest chuckles. "I conducted various talk shows, people called in with various questions on energy so on and so forth ... Do you have any idea how many billions of dollars we waste in southern California on energy?"

1) He doesn't want to "improve" your 'hood with projects that will annoy the crap out of you - and fill the pockets of City Hall.

"Some politicians were basically coerced, if you want to call it, to support a developer - and remember, I was a developer myself, so I know where it's going to and where it's coming from," Draiman says to the Weekly.

May we suggest some examples here? Possibly District 4 City Council member Tom LaBonge's $850 thousand median? -- or Marina Del Rey's force fed "improvements."

So far, running against Draiman will be: City Controller Wendy Gruel, radio personality Kevin James and L.A. District 9 Councilwoman Jan Perry.

Which of the two LA Mayoral candidates deserves to be the mayor in 2013?

The candidate that deserves to win is the one that has the people of Los Angeles interest at heart.

The candidate that can unify the City in a common goal for transparency and sincerely promote the city to the business world.

The candidate that can encompass the various factions within the city for a coalition government of all the parties, thereby representing all the people of Los Angeles.

The candidate that instills hope and confidence in the voters that his administration will improve the city’s financial and economic condition.

Do you think any of the run-off candidates has what it takes to do that?

Jobs and the Economy – solutions – YJ Draiman for Mayor r6

As Mayor of LA, how would I create jobs? We have a tremendous amount of natural resources here in Los Angeles, which we need to develop. To put it succinctly, "You can not drill for American oil and natural gas in China, Saudi Arabia or anyplace else other than America."

The more domestic energy we produce, renewable and non-renewable, the more domestic jobs we create.  Moreover, jobs in the exploration and production of oil and natural gas pay more than twice the national average.  At the same time, the domestic energy we produce will increase R&D in renewable energy sources, thus, increase efficiency.

Just look how far we have come in the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency in the past 10 years.  I intend to accelerate that trend, and to take advantage of every resource possible in technology and funding. As I stated many times; “Those who control the energy supply control whole continents”; “Those who control the water sources control life”.

I submit: Leadership by example. I plan to cut waste, maximize productivity, reduce bureaucracy, increase efficiency and conservation in all city departments and assets, eliminate duplicating tasks and reward excellent performance and innovative methods of job performance. In addition, we have to use the Neighborhood Council’s more effectively; they are the eyes and ears of all the communities in Los Angeles. These are hard economic times; we must all put our shoulder to the task.

We must put all our differences aside and work together in harmony for the good of the people and the city of Los Angeles. Your vote for me will be one more step in this positive direction and it will be a win for all the people in LA.

Do you believe the election process is fair?

I do have to add that there are some very good candidates out there, but they do not have the financial backing and resources to win an election, even the media ignores them.It is the masses of voters who can change our government by voting for the most qualified candidate, not the one with the most money. Money does not equate qualifications. This is still a democracy and we the people, if we all vote; we can take back our government. We outnumber the special interests voters. After all, it is a government by the people for the people – not the other way around.

When an elected official performs his job honestly and properly, than there is no need for a 4 million dollars plus to be elected for mayor of Los Angeles.

United States of America the great country

I once believed we lived in the greatest country of all, but now, not so much. Our leaders have spent our tax money so foolishly that we can no longer support our own families. They give so much to those that choose not to work and charge more in taxes to those that do to pay for it. We give so much money and supplies to other countries, but with all our resources, we cannot take care of our own. We make laws and paperwork to adopt U.S. children so strict and complicated that we get them from other countries; again, our leaders choose not to care for our own. They vote themselves large pay increases again, it is our taxes. We fight everybody's wars, lose family lives, and then pay to rebuild their countries so they can live a better life. What about us the American family, what country will save us from our government? Not any country because our taxes have made our leaders and military so powerful that they could not compete. We need real Leaders, not the list of them that our Leaders chose for us to vote on. Always remember, you have a right to vote, but they supply the list of candidates that you can vote for.

Investing in training -- human capital - "social capital" -- enables one to become more productive - Draiman

The more civic region has prospered because trust and reciprocity were woven into its social fabric ages ago. None of this would appear in standard economics textbooks, of course, but our evidence suggests that wealth is the consequence, not the cause, of a healthy civics.
An important moral emerges. Economists often refer to physical capital. A screwdriver is a form of
physical capital: By investing in a screwdriver, one becomes more productive. About 45 years ago, the economist Gary Becker used the term "human capital" to refer to the fact that education can have the same effect. Investing in training -- human capital -- enables one to become more productive.

Some social scientists are beginning to speak of "social capital" -- networks and norms of civic engagement. Conversely, in some modern countries -- in our own urban ghettoes and in our suburbs, for example -- the last several decades have witnessed a silent erosion of social capital. There are more empty seats at PTA meetings and church masses, for example, and
fewer of us spend time on public affairs -- particularly political activities.

Draiman says that voters deserve to hear from all Mayoral candidates on the ballot

It is anti democratic to ignore candidates who have earned their place to be on the ballot.

In the current political mood and the growing apathy by voters it is imperative that every candidate who has earned his right to be on the ballot to be heard by the public.

Ignoring these candidates only reinforces the voting public that money and not the most qualified candidate is given a chance to run for office with a level playing field.

The deck is stacked against a candidate who is not willing to be swayed by money and political influence. This is a sad day for our Democracy.

The Media and the various organizations who host a candidate forum – debate have a great responsibility to present unbiased information to the public, of all the candidates that appear on the ballot with a level playing field.

To ignore some candidate is a distortion of our Democratic oath and they are practicing the very same unacceptable behavior that they are trying to correct in today’s political scene.

Are Hoodwinked Angelenos electing failed leaders in 2013?

Who is qualified to be the next mayor of Los Angeles 2013? – I submit: None of the current three elected officials!

Any of the current three elected officials at LA City Hall who are running, who have been in LA City Hall for the past 12 years, do not qualify to be the Mayor of LA. Their past poor performance, their contribution to the current state of affairs is reprehensible. The current three elected officials, who are running, do not deserve to be reelected again for any position in LA City Hall and especially to the position of Mayor in the city of Los Angeles. It would be a travesty if any one of them win the election.

I hope and trust that the people of LA are not as gullible as the current three mayoral candidates who are current elected officials presume. They are counting on fooling the people again. How many times do us Angelenos need to be beaten over the head to declare enough is enough; the corruptions and special favors are over, we are exercising are voting power and we are taking our city back.

"When will "ENOUGH BE ENOUGH?"

We keep electing our political leaders from the same parasitic pool of privileged families.

I challenge anyone to name the congressperson, or senator in Washington, or your state that was brought up in a middle income, middle class family, or had to work a real job to pay the bills. I'm not talking about attorneys, or corporate top level managers. These people are not what I consider workers! Show me the person in our government that has had to borrow money to send his kids to college, or take out an "inflated interest" loan to buy a house! Do any of them really care that we are mortgaging our children's future to China? How many of them have had to go to war, or serve in the military other than be an officer with the elitist mindset that permeates our armed forces?

We as voters are getting exactly what we have reaped because we fail to elect any leaders that actually know who we are, and what we think. Our salvation can only come from our votes, and we should vote the man, not the party! Vote for the person that has proven his way from a humble beginning, and succeeded...oh yeah!

That's right! You won't find any such person because unless they sell out to a special interest group with money, fat chance they will be able to afford to compete in the arena of the privileged elite! Money actually buys our leaders even before they are elected!

The current job down turn was badly handles from the beginning and the government’s response to the crisis has, in some instances, made matters worse.

The feds threw stimulus money at California which simultaneously cut its EDD staff precisely when the unemployed needed their help the most. Sacramento sent bailout money to local municipalities like Los Angeles, which used the money to save high paying government jobs only to subsequently eliminate those same jobs as part of the city’s cost saving measures.

The state and federal government layered on large amounts of unemployment benefits that made people out of work feel good but did nothing to help them get back to work. The benefits have now run out and the unemployment recipients have been thrust back into the ranks of job seekers with no new work skills and no new job prospects.

We have spent trillions of dollars and have nothing to show for it. What we need is a disaster plan and disaster response, which requires identifying those in need of critical attention from those who need minimal retooling of skills to reenter the job market. Is the consortium of people and foundations that we wrote about the answer to our critical need? Who knows but if they don’t address the critical steps needed to getting people back to work it will all be a waste of time.

Regardless of our own personal beliefs and values; we must join together and address this unemployment issue before our great nation is permanently damaged. This is perhaps due to the greed and pettiness of some of our leaders; but now is not the time to be pointing fingers.

We have a duty to help our fellow citizens. It is easy to point out what is wrong; harder to develop and implement solutions to problems and issues.

I agree that working together in a spirit of cooperation and collaboration; we can address and resolve any challenge.

I support and look forward to contributing and getting our country contributing solutions, ideas, approaches, and resources to our communities, our country and our world.

If Los Angeles is to avoid the potential of Bankruptcy, like N.Y. in 1975.The Mayor of Los Angeles must pull the stakeholders together and forced them to make sacrifices -- unions, banks, legislators, debt holders, community groups. The obstacle to that seemed to be the politics of getting everyone to make reciprocal concessions. The Mayor of LA has to come up with a plan that looks realistic. This includes sacrifices from everybody. Which maintains the economic viability of the city because you can also tax yourself out of existence, LA already has high taxes and fees? Which probably puts in a control structure that oversees budgets? You just have a big economic plan that stretches out between six and 10 years that will be acceptable to the markets and not be destructive to the economy.

Response to US restricting free speech – YJ Draiman Dear Reader, Apparently we have come full circle.   1936 is here again.   The foundations of our democracy are under attack - the hallmark of America is the right to assemble, petition the government, speak out against injustice, and to practice our religions.   The hallmark of the National Socialistic and/or Communist Society is to demonize people who disagree and the limit association and expression.   The attempt to thwart the growing trend in guardianship abuse - illustrated by the various complaints against those who defend it, the various cases in Arizona and a host of similar prosecutions is chilling.   The attempt to force the Catholic Church to pay for procedures and policies that are abhorrent to their religious beliefs is chilling.   The bias against presidential candidates because of their religious beliefs is chilling.   However, the 'hue and cry' that all Americans should be raising does not exist and as it was in 1936 no one cares!    Senior citizens being deprived of their liberty, their property, their civil rights, and their human rights do not even raise a stir in the media.  A Zillion dollars of waste and corruption created by ineffective and flawed programs is sweep under the rug - Even the Tea Party is silent as society loses the human capital of its seniors who the new order desires to strip of the gold in their teeth and warehouse.   What are most disturbing are the names of the people who are intimately involved in the new order and the concerted efforts to strip America of its liberty and its citizens of their First and Fifth Amendment Rights.  Some of the people intimately involved in the deprivation of seniors of the liberty, property, civil and human rights are children of the victims of Nazi and Communist Holocaust.  Of course, this also occurred in 1934, 1935 and 1936 etc!   It has been reported that the first victim of the guillotine was its inventor. YJ Draiman http://www.draiman.org

A question to the people of Los Angeles Do you have confidence in your current elected officials in Los Angeles City Hall? Are they doing a good job? No, why? Yes, why?  Who is qualified to be the mayor of Los Angeles 2013?Where there is discord, the mayor will bring harmony. Where there is error, the mayor will bring truth. Where there is doubt, the mayor will bring faith. And where there is despair, the mayor will bring hope.  The mayor will unite the city and promote economic prosperity successfully. A person who can do these things is the one qualified to be the mayor of Los Angeles in 2013. www.yjdraimanformayor.org

Are LA voters angry enough to change the current administration at Los Angeles City Hall? LA voters in the March 2011 Elections voted for incumbents - People do not care, why? Why do we think LA city election on March 5, 2013 will be any different? I would think with the poor performance and dismal track record by the current administration, the voters would demand to change the current administration at LA City Hall. The performance of the current administrations borders on criminal neglect. In order to move forward, we must educate the voters, let them know that the current administration goals are business as usual, there will be no significant changes and the city will be heading into bankruptcy.  The escalating costs of pensions and benefits will drain most of the city budget as we head into 2020. The increased taxes and fees on residents and businesses will push people and businesses to leave the city. This again will reduce revenues to the city. The city must initiate an austerity program. Cut salaries and benefits across the board, increase efficiency and performance. The Police Department should utilize civil service employees for clerical work, not Police Officers. The city must tighten its belt and reduce taxes and fees, streamline bureaucracy. Promote the health of existing businesses and actively go after new businesses.  Any city employee who is not performing his job to standards should be put on suspension without pay or benefits and if such action has not improved the workers performance, the worker/employee should be terminated.  The city must utilize its most expensive resource, its employees more efficiently, promote a good work environment and reward exceptional performance.  People must realize that if they do not do their job, they will have no job and no means of support. The city must streamline management and reduce management costs. A high administrative cost is not prudent and not sustainable. LA’s employee costs are one of the highest in the country.  We need a change in attitude, and that starts at the top. As they say in good leadership, “follow me”. The main question is, why LA voters don't care, why they are resigned to accept failure and diminishing LA city services. Can we not find a leader who will motivate City Hall and initiate hard choices to bring the city to financial health? City elections should be held on the first Tuesday of November with all the other elections to Federal, County & State. It will reduce costs and increase voter turnout. The peoples brigade for honest government  YJ DraimanPS“The choice we face in Los Angeles and as a nation is simple: Do we want the clean energy and conservation technologies of tomorrow to be invented in America by American innovators, made by American workers and sold around the world, or do we want to concede those jobs to our competitors?”  Asks Energy Specialist YJ Draiman. “We can and must compete for those jobs.”  In Los Angeles, we have the technology, the climate, the resources and the manpower. Let us proceed with conviction. YJ Draiman http://www.yjdraimanformayor.c...

Dear Los Angelinos;  I am running for Mayor to get Los Angeles back to the thriving and robust city it should be. The present administration DOES NOT serve the best interest of the people of Los Angeles. During this time of great urgency, I will focus every day on bringing innovative solutions to the economic crisis that is holding our city back -- solutions such as retaining and bringing businesses to the city, fiscal responsibility which will reduce the financial burden on taxpayers; transparency, make Los Angeles the city that works, protect core city services; and make our neighborhoods stronger, safer, and attractive to jobs and businesses. It is time to restore honesty, integrity, accountability and transparency in government.  It is time to put our differences aside, and put an end to special interests which only serve the few.  It is time for City Hall to serve the best interests of all the people of this once great city. We all know these tough economic conditions are affecting our city greatly. I believe in a coordinated effort and I believe in the people of this great city. I plan on working together with the people of this city. As a cohesive force, we will transform our city into the most dynamic place in the nation. My vision for Los Angeles is to make LA the World Capital of Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency & Water Conservation. Today’s economic crisis is of utmost concern for all Americans.  In these hard economic times, we must unify as a cohesive force to address the need for more jobs, better housing, a healthcare system which works for all; and most importantly, to stop the deterioration of the educational system which is depriving our children of the necessary tools for their, and our future. Now, I am asking for your help to transform all of Los Angeles. Please sign up for the latest updates, connect with me on Facebook and Twitter, and ask any question or concern and I will respond. I look forward to working with all the people to get Los Angeles back to the status it deserves. Sincerely, YJ Draiman for Mayor of Los Angeles http://www.yjdraiman.org

WHO WILL BE THE NEXT MAYOR OF LOS ANGELES? YJ Draiman? The next Mayoral candidate to address the audience at Holman Mayoral Forum on March 6, 2012, was YJ Draiman. Curiously, prior to last night, he’d received little publicity in the Los Angeles media. But based on his Presentation and the emails I’ve received from him, Draiman campaign for Mayor should be taken seriously. He’s an elected member of the Northridge East Neighborhood Council. He’s now working on a Doctorate in Energy Conservation and, as he told the audience last night, he thinks Los Angeles must become exceptionally business friendly – that it must rejuvenate manufacturing, and that to do all this, the City must make full use of its natural resources,(an idea he promises to explain at a later time, elaborating on his vision to make Los Angeles the World Capital for Renewable Energy, Energy efficiency & Water conservation in LA).YJ Draiman’s vision for Los Angeles is to make LA the World Capital for Renewable Energy, Energy efficiency & Water conservation.http://www.yjdraimanformayor.com

How will YJ Draiman affect the campaign issues for Los Angeles Mayor in 2013  YJ Draiman for Mayor of Los Angeles 2013   Dear Fellow Los Angelinos Thank you for taking a few moments to learn more about my ideas for building a new Los Angeles.I appreciate your interest in my campaign and hope my jobs plan will provide you with a better understanding of the type of Mayor I hope to be – one focused on transparency and putting Los Angelinos back to work. Los Angeles faces one of the most challenging times in our city’s history.Because of the unfriendly business environment, along with some of the highest tax rates in the nation, families and businesses are being forced to make unthinkable trade-offs, including living the city they love. But I am optimistic about Los Angeles future. I am running for Mayor because I believe everything is still possible in Los Angeles. That is why as Mayor that makes LA attractive to business will create jobs will be my priority. It is the only way we are going to clean up the mess in Los Angeles. I have a unique skill set and the detailed plan to get Los Angeles going again. I have started businesses from the ground up and within a short time revenues exceeded $60 million a year. I have been involved in gentrification of whole neighborhoods; I have built a 5 star hotel and implemented energy efficiency for over 20 years. I operated a chain of electronics stores. I think Los Angeles needs a little bit more of a business-like attitude. We have to be honest about our problems, offer grown-up solutions and put an end to the partisan bickering and hand-wringing that is business as usual. I can effectively balance the interests of developers, big business and those who are well-situated and I am more concerned about the interests of everyday citizens." If you do not know and admit that there is a problem, you can not fix it. I am running to reinvigorate Los Angeles economic potential – it will take time and the effort of all the people of Los Angeles. We shall overcome there economic hardships if we work together as a unified force. If you have any suggestions on how we can move Los Angeles forward, please contact our campaign. We will listen. We want this campaign to be special, one that addresses your concerns and speaks to your hopes for what a new Los Angeles can be. Together, we can put Los Angeles back to work and make our City great again and call it the city that works.  YJ Draiman for Mayor of Los Angeles 2013 PSDraiman is determined to bring a new approach to Los Angeles. One that demands we help attract businesses that create jobs and lower taxes. One that provides better efficiency and expedited better services. One that makes it a priority commitment to improving our schools. One that is committed to improve public transportation.  Draiman has a plan to make Los Angeles economic vitality flourish.Make Los Angeles Competitive again, raise the standard of living, grow the tax base and help put an end to the yearly budget problems in Los Angeles.

The Current elected officials are not qualified to be the next Mayor of Los Angeles! Rev1  A good argument against current administration officials running for mayor is that Wendy Greuel who has been in the city council since 2012 and is "all of a sudden" finding problems as controller and as a now mayoral candidate that she didn't seem to notice as a council member for over 9 years. That Eric Garcetti has been "at the helm of city council for over a decade of decline and deterioration." That Jan Perry is much like the others she has been in office since 2001. That Austin Beutner can't possibly escape blame after having run 13 city departments, with the position of First Deputy Mayor and Chief Executive for Economic and Business Policy, as well as General Manager of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power 1994-1996. (Austin Beutner has withdrawn from the race). None of them have objected or put up an argument while in office against the policies that have brought Los Angeles to the verge of bankruptcy and total economic disaster, the worst in 8 decades.  And that LA’s outgoing Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa makes a strong argument for letting a complete outsider give it a go. An outsider has no allegiance to the political machine.  Los Angeles must start with a clean slate at City Hall. From the current list of candidates, I can see only two outsiders that are qualified; YJ Draiman & Kevin James. We have an opportunity to elect and put in Los Angeles City Hall a new Mayor and 8 out of the 15 Councilmen that are up for election. This could change the face of the administration drastically and bring about a change of operation, where sound decisions and transparency will be the new mandate for LA City Hall. The mayor of the city of Los Angeles must be a leader like no other leader, he must be an exceptional administrator and trustworthy. He must have top notch advisers to advice him in bringing LA to economic health. A city of Los Angeles with about 4 million people and spans an area of 465 square miles that has an economic engine that by far surpasses many countries; it is an enormous responsibility and must be managed properly.  If LA keeps taxing its people to death there will be nobody left in the city to collect taxes from. Many people and businesses are leaving the city in droves.    "To err is human, but it takes a politician to really screw things up."

The only way for the people of Los Angeles to take over their city is Elect YJ Draiman for MayorWe should demonstrate in the streets, to wake up the masses, to expose the truth, to prove that the current administration has destroyed our city's economic vitality. Draiman is the only candidate at this time that could unite the city of Los Angeles, who could appeal to all the political parties, with a program that could look to the future and focus Los Angeles on its purposes. Draiman has the right chemistry to bridge the gap and unify our city for the common good. We should give Draiman a chance - try it you will like it. The people of Los Angeles will be the better under the leadership of YJ Draiman. A corruptive and corrosive power could exist and be nurtured by the peoples apathy. Therefore to change, the people must overcome the apathy and vote their conscience. This is the only way a change for the better will occur in Los Angeles. James D

Are LA voters angry enough to change the current administration at Los Angeles City Hall???   LA voters in the March 2011 Elections voted for incumbents - People do not care, why???   Why do we think LA city election on March 5, 2013 will be any different???   I would think with the poor performance and dismal track record by the current administration, the voters would demand to change the current administration at LA City Hall. 4 of the current LA Mayoral candidates are mostly recycled LA City Council members who have proven themselves unworthy by their repeated failure to solve the City’s problems and Council staff members who have demonstrated their loyalty and obedience to their pockets, like well-trained dogs. The corruption in LA government must be stopped. Public corruption in LA City Hall “pay-to-play''. The peoples brigade for honest government   YJ Draiman http://www.yjdraimanformayor.com

YJ Draiman – The Peoples Candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles Dear Los Angelinos, Los Angeles should be the most wonderful city in the world. We have great weather, a multitude of people with a varied background, an unrivaled enterprise and culture, a gateway to the Far East with major ports for business and industry. The LA leadership performance has been failing for many years. The corruption is running rampant. Los Angeles is on the verge of bankruptcy.  We must replace the current leadership if we are to survive the current financial disaster and mishandling of city revenues and assets. We must restore fiscal responsibility to LA City Hall or we are doomed.  The City Hall insiders have been bought and paid for by the special interests and have totally ignored the average residents/stakeholders and their concerns and hardships over and over. It is imperative that we stop this culture of corruption and favoritism. This is the twenty fourth hour. Time is running out and we must begin to create a better future for Los Angeles. I care about Los Angeles, a wonderful and thriving city. I strongly believe that we need a strong and determined leader that can bring people together to solve difficult challenges with innovative solutions. With my track record as Neighborhood rejuvenator and being an advocate for neighborhood councils and residents/stakeholders all over this City, I believe I am the only choice to put Los Angeles back on the road to economic health and confidence in its leadership. As a unified and cohesive force we can revive and bring back Los Angeles to its deserved fame and status. Join me in our campaign to rebuild Los Angeles and create a sustainable future for the residents/stakeholders and our families. "Let us take back our city and make it Los Angeles governed by the people for the people" YJ Draiman http://www.yjdraimanformayor.o...

Current elected officials are not qualified to be the next Mayor of LA!Who is qualified to be the next mayor of Los Angeles 2013? The current elected officials at LA City Hall who are running, do not qualify to be the Mayor of LA. Their past poor performance and their contribution to the current state of affairs are reprehensible. They do not deserve to be elected again for any position in LA City Hall and especially to the position of Mayor of LA. I hope and trust that the people of LA are not as gullible as the current elected officials presume. It is time for the voters of LA to elect a person who cares about the people of this great city of Los Angeles, a city with a population of about 4 million people and 281 square miles. The current elected officials at city hall have abused their position; they have failed the people of Los Angeles. The current elected officials at LA city hall should get a verbal lynching for their performance. The City of Los Angeles is in its worst condition in this century. The cause of this despicable condition is the product of the current administration. It is time to elect officials who truly care about the people and the city of LA. Officials who exercise their elected position for the good of the people of LA, not what is in it for them? When we support current elected officials in their quest to become the Mayor of Los Angeles, we consent to their poor performance and induce them to continue to destroy our city. We must change the status quo of business as usual; the current administration has abused its position and trust. Otherwise we as the people of LA will pay a heavy price for such negligence.  This is the message we should be sending to people who seek public office. A candidate must have honesty and integrity as a primary character trait and above all the public’s trust.  YJ Draiman PS.

Draiman for Mayor of Los Angeles 2013 I believe that if people know the rules and are sensitized by art, humor, and creativity, they are more likely to accept change. The crucial point of a citizens' culture is learning to correct others without mistreating them or generating aggression. We need to create a society in which civility rules over cynicism and apathy.http://www.draimanformayor.net

The responsibility and obligation while in position of leadership The responsibility and obligation while in position of leadership Many words in the English language give definition to our conduct as individuals or to the conduct of organizations and agencies of government. Among these words are four that have special importance to those of us who care, have values and are interested in becoming men and women of character. The words are honesty, responsibility, leadership and public trust. The world we have known has changed rapidly in the last 50 years. The changes were driven by the advent of high technology, instant media coverage and communications which changed the way our society earns its living. The evolution from an industrial society characterized by the blue collar worker, to a society that now makes money by managing information or providing service to others has produced rapid changes more profound than in any other time in human history. These economic/technological changes have also prodded our society to examine virtually every traditionally held belief and custom. In addition every organization, including government, continues to be scrutinized for its relevancy to this new way of earning a living.I presume who, or what, is to blame for the confusion in today's society. I think it fair to say, however, that we have all had a hand in trashing our traditional values and institutions. It is paradoxical that high technology with all of its great promise to improve our lives, in fact, has been used as the reason for us to create a society that by any historical standard is troubled! Crime in all of its forms, including violence, is at epidemic proportions and the personal conduct of almost a majority of our citizens leaves much to be desired. Our basic institutions such as the family, school, religious institutions and government not only often fail to achieve their objectives, but sometimes, through their muddling, make the problems we face much worse! In today’s environment it is difficult to overcome the temptations of self-indulgence and overcome the cynicism we have developed and the almost constant challenges to our integrity. Yet, for our own good and the good of our families, we have to examine some fundamental aspects of our lives. In today’s society we must look beneath the surface of this simple question and throw out answers that suggest material wealth or power. These achievements tend to corrupt and in the final analysis, are meaningless. Instead think of your life as a statement to your children and others of what you learned is most important and enduring about yourself. Integrity, honesty, courage, compassion, fairness, justice, ethical behavior and kindness are the virtues by which you will always be judged as a leader, a parent, or a neighbor. As a leader you must constantly be on the lookout, not to feel as if you become power itself, and think of yourself as invincible. You are in this position of leadership to serve the people honestly and with integrity. You have to serve as an example of true virtues. Do not let your position of leadership get to your head. People have nothing to fear but fear itself. We must overcome it.In a world where the competition for economic success has blinded humanity to our values and the cost of economic success has blinded us from adhering to the true precepts of honesty and integrity. When we are accountable for something within our power or control we are said to be responsible. Since humans have the capacity to make moral decisions, we also have the obligation to make correct decisions or face some consequence. The concept of responsibility is universal. It is found throughout our human history and is prominent in the thinking of every tribe, village or nation that has ever existed. Responsibility became the anvil that society used to forge acceptable social behavior on the part of its members. It also became a yardstick used by individuals to decide whether their actual behavior matched what they knew was the right thing. This is called conscience. All societies fashion laws, customs, rituals, religions and taboos to quantify and qualify levels of responsibility for each member or group. A child is not held to the same level of responsibility as an adult. An individual employed by the public is held to a higher standard of behavior than someone employed by a private concern. Although these groups must be held responsible as well, fashioning similar standards for corporations and governments has been more difficult. When people form a group, like they do in building an organizational entity, many of the usual social norms used to pressure individuals will not apply. The social pressure generated by peers, parents, neighbors, religion, and law do not have the same effect on an organization's behavior as they do on an individual. An organization, per se, does not have a conscience. The leaders of the organization provide the conscience of the organization.Unfortunately, some leaders have concluded that the organization is immune from the usual social pressures, or that they can ignore these pressures while their questionable behavior continues. While this may be expedient or profitable in the short term, eventually most organizations that operate in this fashion lose the trust of the public and are eventually reformed or forced out of existence. This is part of the problem currently facing the corporate structure of our society today. If the concept of responsibility is to work for nations, individuals or organizations, then appropriate actions must be rewarded and inappropriate behavior corrected or punished. Throughout history, understanding and accepting individual responsibility has been one objective of the legal system, child rearing and the teaching of the religious and education system. Individual responsibility was honored while individuals who did not act in a responsible manner were punished. Depending on the time frame, society used methods for compliance that were Draconian, such as hanging or shunning, forcing an acceptable level of compliance. Society has also used the similar disciplinary measures with rulers who were not responsible. In the case of the king, it was rebellion and beheading. More recently, in the case of Nazi Germany and Japan, it was virtual destruction. In regard to current standards of responsibility, one could argue the nations of Iran, Iraq and Libya are walking on thin ice! While this degree of punishment on the part of our society might not meet the fainthearted standards of justice held by some "enlightened liberals," harsh measures have always made the point to individuals, organizations and nations that acts have their consequences. Responsibility in behavior is a concept that has certainly stood the test of time.In North America, currently our different societies are having more difficulty with people, corporations and governmental organizations accepting, evading or denying responsibility. A recent survey by the Ethics Associations suggests that more than half of the present work force commits a serious ethical or criminal violation each year in response to what it claims is pressure on the job. I would not suggest this data, or the voluminous newspaper accounts of the unethical behavior of politicians, sports figures, movie stars, corporate executives and a whole lot of other people who ought to know better, indicate the problem has reached epidemic proportions. But, it has become a problem that needs to be addressed. What makes the problem more vexing is that it seems more fashionable these days to find someone or something else to blame for our personal and organizational misdeeds. Wouldn't it be refreshing if someone at the White House, the Pentagon, the Congress, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, or the movie industry stood up and said, "I am responsible for that blunder, I am sorry and I'll try a bit harder." This would require character. It could be argued that blaming others is perfectly normal. After all we are human, not angels! However, the good character we try to achieve cannot be attained by blaming others for our shortcomings, nor can individuals achieve lasting success in their personal or organizational lives by using unethical and expedient means while avoiding responsibility when they do wrong."The end never justifies the means" is an old cliché several generations seem not to have learned.Responsibility is not something each individual has a choice. Shortly after birth you get it! You will continue to have more placed upon your shoulders as you grow older, smarter and more reliable. This will continue until your behavior indicates you cannot accept anymore. I hope when taking the oath as a leader you realized you were asking for double or triple the amount of responsibility carried by most other people. We all know people who try to evade their responsibilities. Few ever fully succeed and most are eventually exposed and punished. Much of the punishment is self-inflicted. Other people may be denied employment, promotions, or fired from their positions. In areas where responsibility is impossible to deny, such as in a school or the athletic field, people who do not accept responsibility usually do poorly. In marriage, a lack of responsibility often leads to divorce, poor parenting and an overall miserable existence. As a member of the leadership community, we accept additional responsibilities by the nature of our work. We also accept double the consequences if we fail. Responsibility is a pervasive, all-encompassing aspect of our lives. We must face that it is virtually impossible to escape responsibility as a leader – (be it government, corporate or religious, etc.) both on and off the job, particularly if we aspire to a position that requires a significant amount of leadership.Wouldn't it be easier for us to say to ourselves, "I will be responsible, and I will accept responsibility no matter what the consequences? Period."? It doesn't take any more energy to accept responsibility than to evade it. By accepting responsibility for your character and behavior you must have the courage to be held accountable for your actions. You won't be able to blame mom or dad, the environment, your lack of money, your ignorant supervisor, or other people who just do not understand you. You will have to say, "It is my fault, and I'll try and do better next time." These are tough words to say. Nonetheless, once you are honest with yourself, there is a freedom that comes over you that is exhilarating! No more energy wasted in trying to convince other people you are something you know you are not! No more fear that someone will expose you as a phony. No more time wasted trying to find someone else to blame. No more shopping for the most impressive labels to help bolster your feelings of self-worth.While this is simple advice, it often is hard to follow. Hell, we are human and we all make mistakes. Shake your head at your own stupidity; laugh at yourself if you can. Decide to try and do better tomorrow. The good Lord knows when I make these mistakes, the first thing I do is to look for the wife, kids, close family and friends. But as we get older and wiser, we realize that we are the problem, not them. Things are better now (but the damage has been done!). This is called being honest with yourself. It is healthy thing to do.Just remember that individuals who want to be known throughout the leadership and community as people of good character always keep trying to improve themselves. You have to realize, and accept, that to be committed to a higher standard of conduct you will often be called upon lower your values to a more common denominator. You have to be willing to risk all that you have to maintain your commitment to a higher standard. If you are looking for an example of a "tough leader" this would be the type of individual who would best fit the bill. There have been many articles and books written on the subject of leadership. Personally, I don't think the subject of leadership is that difficult or complex to understand? A leader provides direction, makes decisions, is at times inspiring or insightful, and most importantly, sets a good example for others to follow. To do this entire well an individual needs a commanding knowledge of the job, a strong commitment to the values of honesty, courage, compassion, truth and self-discipline. The leader also needs to be respected. Respect need not arise from fear, but rather from the fact that the leader has the sense to do the right thing and the will to make things happen. All of these personality characteristics allow an individual to objectively gather the facts at hand and make the right decision. Hindsight may later indicate it wasn't the best decision, but given the circumstances at the time of the event, it still was a decision made for the right reasons. This is all we can ask of a leader!Leaders are made, not born! Leadership is not a gift of genetics, it is a combination of knowledge, personality, and habit--all of which we learn from parents, brothers and sisters, schoolwork, teachers, peers and from the other educational experiences during our lives. Leaders have moral courage, strong wills and an understanding of the concept of responsibility. They have a great deal of self-discipline, confidence in the ability of others and the self-assurance to let others participate in the decision-making process. It is quite possible that a leader not occupy a high position in life.By contrast, the worst leaders I observed during my career were those who lacked self-confidence, didn't trust anyone and tried to micro-manage every situation. They considered themselves experts in every field and were fonder of talking than listening. Depending on their personalities, they either couldn't delegate or delegated everything. In either case, their strategy was designed to protect themselves above all else. These were not individuals with strong character traits. On the contrary, they were shallow people either hiding behind their rank, their Gucci loafers or their stylized hair cut. When something went wrong they looked for an excuse, a scapegoat or a cover-up to avoid being held responsible.Yes, many lousy leaders we have all known did not realize that leaders have to take responsibility, sometimes for something they had no control over. Leaders, like ducks, get shot at and sometimes hit. The good ones accept this as part of the territory. The others usually claim they were in the restroom at the time of the incident!Public trust, is defined as the faith the public has in organizations that are created to protect our basic freedoms. Examples of some of these organizations would be our courts, the military, the legislative and executive branches of government at all levels: public health, social services, and fire and rescue services, as weak as law enforcement organizations. Each citizen has an expectation that public organizations, and each member of the organization, will discharge their duties in a competent manner and not abuse authority granted to them by law. Not only does the citizen pay for these services, but they have relinquished some of their individual freedoms to ensure that the government has the ability to look after their well-being. Consequently, a sworn member of a law enforcement organization is held to a far higher standard of conduct than other public employees because they have been entrusted with great power. An abuse of this power always is a betrayal of the public trust and is seldom tolerated in a democratic society. Hence, the punishment of cops, FBI agents, DEA agents, prosecutors and judges who abuse the powers and privileges granted them by the public is always harsh!Public trust is a precious commodity not only to organizations in the public sector, but to organizations in the private sector. To be successful in the private sector a corporation has to have the public's trust in the products it sells or the services it provides. Should this trust waver, or be lost, the corporation encounters a serious problem that may include being forced out of business. Why many well-known corporations would jeopardize public trust through their questionable business practices is very hard to understand. Was it demand to show greater profits? Ignorance? Or was it that they all thought the corporation was above the law and the scrutiny of the public? Squandering a company's reputation to make a quick buck is a very high price to pay for a lack of some employee's ethical standards and the lack of oversight of these individuals. Similar problems beset the public sector. Unfortunately, some government organizations do not treat taxpayers as if they were customers. Disrespect, rudeness, inefficiency and abuses of power by government employees are well-documented and not uncommon. Virtually every public organization has employees who abuse the power of their position at the expense of others. However, you can bet that the public, tiring of inefficiency and insensitive behavior of these individuals, will call for heads to roll.Assuming responsibility for wrongful acts. My sense is that the best damage control is the truth. I would argue that truth is what has always worked best and is what the public wants to hear. Most of the population understand that leaders often run into difficult, demanding and complex situations. Occasionally, government personnel  will make a mistake and do something that may be a violation of policy or law, or perhaps, just a failure to use common sense. All the public requires to sustain its faith in the organization is that reasonable people within the organization give the matter serious consideration and take whatever corrective steps are required. This takes moral courage on the part of the leader to operate an organization in this fashion. You have given up some of your control of the situation. You have possibly put your job on the line and the troops or the union may initially criticize you for not immediately and vigorously defending them. It is quite probable that a minority of the public will never accept your explanations or actions and will continue their criticism for a long time. The bottom line is that taking responsibility is what leaders, and directors get paid to do. This is what being a leader, or a duck, is all about.Tough words -- responsibility, honesty, leadership and public trust. They are even tougher to put into practice and blend into your own character. But if we are successful in building our character into a reflection of what those words mean, the personal reward is worth far more than the effort required. Peace of mind, respect, admiration and the ability to withstand life's curve balls are a few of the benefits of being a person of character. I am still working on my character, and believe me, I still have a long way to go. I hope you also think it is a worthwhile, lifelong endeavor.Compiled by: YJ Draiman

The Seven Responsibilities of Leadership1. Set and achieve business goals. In warfare, a military commander is given the responsibility of achieving victory against the enemy. In business, each executive at every level is given the responsibility to achieve specific, measurable business victories or goals. The inability to get the required results, and to achieve the goals in a timely fashion, is the primary reason for failure, frustration and firing at every level, in every company, large or small.2. Innovate and market. Apply the "CANEI Strategy" to your sales and marketing efforts. CANEI stands for "Continuous and Never-Ending Improvement." Never be satisfied. Look for new, better, faster and cheaper ways to market and sell your products, every day, every hour of the day.3. Solve problems and make decisions. Whatever title appears on your business card can be crossed out and replaced with the words, "Problem-Solver." This is your real job. In solving problems, think and talk exclusively in terms of solutions. Focus all your attention on the specific actions you can take to solve the problem. Forget about the past and who is to blame. Focus on the future and what actions you can take now. 4. Set priorities and work on key tasks. One of your key responsibilities is to be working on your most vital task all the time and to assure that everyone who reports to you is also working on their key tasks. Always ask yourself, "What are my highest value activities?" If you could only do one thing all day long, what one task would that be?5. Concentrate single-mindedly on the one activity that can make the greatest difference.Write down everything you have to do before you begin. Set priorities using an "ABCDE" system. An "A" task is something very important. An "E" task can be eliminated altogether. You can only get your time and life under control to the degree to which you stop doing certain things. Practice "creative abandonment" with tasks that no longer contribute to accomplishing your most important goals.6. Perform and get results. Your ability to get results determines your pay, your promotion, your success and the respect and esteem in which you are held by the people around you. Ask yourself continually, "What results are expected of me?" Whatever your answer, work on these specific results single-mindedly. They are the major determinants of your success.7. Be a role model for others. This is perhaps the most important responsibility of leadership. One of the marks of superior executives is that they conduct themselves as though everyone were watching them even when no one is watching. Top people set higher standards for themselves than others would set for them. Perhaps nothing contributes more to unity of command than for subordinates to work under someone they greatly respect and admire. Your commitment to becoming a great person, and to demonstrating your values in your every act, is perhaps the most important quality of leadership.

YJ Draiman for Mayor of Los Angeles  Honor, Honesty and Integrity these are not just words At times we feel maybe justified in violating a part of our own integrity. We don’t measure the effect that by doing so, the amount of damagethat it does to others as well as to our own soul.We speak of justice; we speak of honesty and doing the right things inlife. We are sometimes confronted not so much by the violation ofthese principles but by the impact they have on our own spirit.Feeling betrayed by those you trust, who have in some way acted in a manner that you may never understand, will have an impact on your life. This may only be for a moment or maybe a lifetime; each person has their own emotional point of tolerance to transgressions that may have been committed by even the most trusted among you. These words are what make’s us civilized. They are the fundamentalsof our own character. We can not be responsible for someone else’sbehavior but we are in total control of our own. Our behavior in anysetting should be guided by these words. We can forgive others, but it is not easy for us to forgive ourselveswhen it is our actions that bring forth circumstances that no onewants. I have felt recently that betrayal, that dishonest act that justhurts and saddens the soul. Of course, that does not make that personbad or evil. It is an act that does not help for the survival of a group.I believe in the biblical statement that vengeance is the Lord’s it is notmine to give. When dealing with anyone in any capacity honesty is theguide. Integrity is the path to take. Honor is yours to own. Weep asyou may for an infraction of another upon you; forgive as thattransgression will also corrupt your soul to a deeper distrust of all.For the transgressor it will be easy to do that which they may feel isright, though the action violates all honor or self respect which createshavoc and chaos on others. Maybe to be honest will allow one to sleepat night. My heart pains, for those who have chosen the path of leastresistance, which is the path to destruction.Integrity doesn’t mean that you become some cold, stoic person, andvacant of all emotion. Integrity just means to flow with your honestfeelings and actions ensuring that they are in alignment with propriety. If you don’t like what you are doing then honor yourself by doing thebest job anyway. You can always change careers.

YJ Draiman my bid to be elected as mayor of Los Angeles - 2013 Truer facts were never posted. Peace, justice and liberty through musical expression.Today turns into tomorrow and then the future is in your face. Make it happen, now is the time. YJ Draiman wrote an article for the Los Angeles time’s summer 2011 issue. My name is YJ Draiman and I want to be your Mayor. And here’s why.Los Angeles is a City at a crossroads. It is where we raise our families, have our businesses and our homes. But every week shops close and we hear more complaints about parking, crime and taxes. Development ideas that have the potential to improve tax revenue, foot traffic and downtown charm with little risk to taxpayers require much attention before anything can move forward. There is discussion about making Los Angeles a greener healthier place to live, yet nothing changes. Our low-income population continues to struggle. In short, we are a place in need of attention, a place that needs its Mayor to be more than just a legislative figurehead.A Mayor must be a leader, a person full of ideas for our future and an ability to make these ideas a reality. Los Angeles needs a Mayor who works and delegates. Our City Department’s job is to keep our municipality running smoothly and efficiently. They do not set the direction of our community. That is the job of the Mayor and the City council. That direction must be accompanied by vision that will help the Los Angeles we love become the Los Angeles we imagine. As an elected Board member, I have begun to tackle the problems we have by—working with my peers, merchants, residents and law enforcement to combat nighttime noise, litter and crime, resulting in reduction of crime in Los Angeles;—working to fill empty storefronts and solve parking problems by improving signage, communication and parking stock;—working with state, local and federal officials to create jobs and funding;—working to improve recreation by spearheading the building of basketball courts, a new rowing dock and creating a boxing program for youth;—working to get clinics in our schools and our neighborhoods to serve seniors and thosewho struggle with medical care;—working to replace our unsuccessful affordable housing law with a program that will help the poor and elderly. My fellow Board members support me in my bid for Mayor because we share a vision. But someone must lead the charge. Our work must be advanced. We must have a beautiful green waterfront with plenty of healthy activity; we must find a way to reduce taxes and fees, encourage smart growth and lose our dependence on access revenue. We must see business flourish. This election is a choice between moving forward and standing still. If you believe thatLos Angeles can do better, then I am the right choice for your MayorPeople, who know how to employ themselves, always find leisure moments, while those who do nothing are forever in a hurry. YJ Draiman for Mayor of LA

My name is YJ Draiman and I am running for mayor of Los Angeles

How can you have patience for people who claim they love America, but clearly can't stand Americans?  Los Angeles is a City that needs clear and coherent thinking to address the budget, the economy, city services. It needs a responsible attentive government, address unemployment and make Los Angeles business friendly with streamlined rules and regulations with reduced bureaucracy. We've got serious problems, and we need serious people, with no hidden agenda just represent the interests of the people of Los Angeles. My name is YJ Draiman and I am running for Mayor of Los Angeles.  PS. We need a city that enforces the current laws, promotes good education, respects the constitution, protects its citizens and make the city conducive to new business and employment - not milk its citizens with additional taxes and fees. Peoples concern today is: FSJHE – Food, Shelter, Jobs, Healthcare and Education

Mass transit expansion for greater Los Angeles – revisited With the escalating cost of energy – it is time to re-visit expanding the transit system.Put all politics aside and look at a short term goals and long term goals.Expanding the mass transit system in the Los Angeles Metro Area is critical to the future vitality of its economy; it will save energy reduce pollution, save lives and increase health by reducing stress. It is time to forgo ego and consider the good of the public.A transit system utilizing cable car or light rail over the freeways or any other types of mass transit in the Los Angeles Metro area is a reasonable solution to decrease the congestion on the roads, save energy, reduce pollution, improve air quality, save money, save lives and improve our health.Cost of energy and vehicles and maintenance has climbed dramatically in the past 10 years, warranting this issue to re-examine the expansion of mass transit in the Greater Los Angeles Area. The longer we wait, the greater the cost and the more imperative this project becomes. In many areas of the country there are transit stations and parking lots, which provide parking for the transit customers. The costs should not be astronomical. (Based on current energy costs, and future increases). There is no need to acquire large parcels of property; with some modification such system can be implemented and operational within the next decade.Another option is building a transportation system over the Los Angeles River – From the San Fernando Valley to Orange County. YJ Draiman, Northridge, CA 91324

Ethical Leadership

Definition: Ethical leadership is to know your core values and having the courage to live them in all parts of your life in service of the common good.Below are some reflections questions to ask on your personal journey toward ethical leadership:•Will you be the same person at work? At home? In the community? •Will you have the courage to live out your values when there is pressure to compromise or rationalize? •How do your values contribute to the common good?

The Model of Ethical Leadership The Model of Ethical Leadership is a framework that aligns the internal (beliefs and values) with the external (behaviors and actions) for the purpose of advancing the common good. The model was created by an ethical CEO based on his formal leadership research and personal passions around faith and ethics.

At the Community of Ethical Leadership we have found that people who want to become leaders who make a difference need to embrace an inner journey of integrity and make an outer commitment to the common good. Our leadership development approach begins with this inner journey. Individuals discover and claim their core values, develop a vision for how the world could be different, find their personal voice for expressing their vision.

They then move to an outer commitment of living and behaving in ways that serve the community and advance the common good. They ask, “Leadership for what purpose?” The ultimate purpose of leadership is to shape a future that is visionary.Inclusive, and enables all members of society to fulfill their needs, dreams and potentials.

Draiman - My quest to restore Leadership, Experience and Integrity to City Hall

YJ Draiman Candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles (2013)

I’m not a politician. You won’t get politically correct doublespeak from me, just the plain facts. The plain facts are often disturbing and as a NC Board Member I’ve never been shy from revealing the sometimes ugly truth about the way the City functions.

Career politicians like the current have no interest in serving the public; rather, they use public office to serve their own interests and those of the small but wealthy cadre of greedy “special interests” who fund their campaigns in return for favors when decisions over controversial matters such as billboards and development have to be made by elected officials.

All too often, the City Council’s actions support the special interests at the expense of the interests of the ordinary people like you and me.

When common sense dictates that our already over-congested streets should not be further burdened by more high-density luxury condominium developments, current elected official’s side with the developers and contractors who funnel campaign contributions to further their interests. We need a Los Angeles with Financial Sustainability that is my goal.

My pledge is for a “City of Los Angeles for the people” not for the politicians and special interests.
