Pink Taco's Pinkey The Donkey Stands in 85 Degree Heat on Cinco de Mayo, Inspires Boycott of Century City Restaurant

Pinkey the donkey.
Pink Taco in Century City opened itself up to controversy this week when it marched out a donkey, apparently painted it pink, and let it stand outside the eatery in 85 degree heat for Cinco de Mayo.

The result, as our friends at OC Weekly pointed out, was a Facebook page called Boycott Pink Taco Century City.

"Pinky" the donkey is the restaurant's Tijuana-style mascot, and they use it likewise -- for people to stand next to and take photographs. Of course, that stuff doesn't fly in L.A., the capital of out-of-work actors animal rights activists.

One woman told OC Weekly the restaurant was served with a cease-and-desist order by an "officer," though we're a little doubtful. (What kind of "officer" in the city of L.A. would have time to check this out?).

Anyway, the backlash seemed to get to the Pink Taco clan, and its Twitter account clammed up before the crew opened up a new one and made light of the situation (in poor taste).

"Thank god we don't get lots of fat chicks here," one tweet reads. "They bitch about everything."

The donkey is back home at Phil's Animal Rentals, where a rep says it continues to receive good care. The rep called it a "big uproar over basically nothing."

We would agree, unless you like to get upset over the douchey vibe that seems to ooze from Pink Taco.

We almost ate at Pink Taco couple months ago, but my fiance felt the place was not very clean so we went elsewhere. Now we are glad we did since they showed egregious disregard by using a live animal as a promotional prop. No sympathy if the PT crew suffers by losing some "green" over this "pink" stunt.

what to you expect from a place named after labia. Not respect for life.

and the donkey would otherwise be standing in the 85 degree heat at Phil's Animal Rentals, and not getting petted and fed snacks by easily amused, high maintenance pink tacos.

Looks very trendy but all of them should still be drawn and quartered for what they did here to the donkey. On the other hand long ago we once got colored Easter chicks. The one who survived was a rooster we named Pinky. We loved the way he strutted around and crowed but our snooty neighbors were not similarly impressed. After receiving threatening, anonymous letters, we had to take Pinky to a safe place away from us. At least the donkey here is back home and hopefully is also in a safe place.

Hmmm..sure hope "fat chicks" boycott this place. Sounds like they don't want people's business.

donkeys can handle higher heat then that. people complain about the smallest things these days. how about doing something productive as opposed to yapping?

How can people be this stupid? As if it isn't 85 degrees anywhere else. People can bring their children to get tacos in 85 degree weather, but take a pic with a pink ass that lives outside.....that's just plain unacceptable!

"What kind of officer would have time to check this out?" Animal cruelty and neglect is against the law. You don't have to be an out of work actor or a fat chick to have compassion for animals. This was clearly hard on the animal and I'm guessing it's not the worst thing he's been through. Sounds like Pink Taco and Phil's Animal Rentals might need some looking into.

I get that, but another point: Officers don't usually issue cease and desist orders, as far as I know. The City Attorney's office would do such a thing (or perhaps a private lawyer might issue a cease-and-desist letter). In the case of a City Attorney cease and desist, it could take awhile.

Brilliant.... nice pic of your cat in the sink.

I'd like to know why Dennis Romero thinks it's funny to shave an animal, paint him with what might be toxic paint, exposing him to the hot sun and shackling him.

I'd also like to know why this empathy-challenged writer attempted to make a joke about animal rights activists being "out of work actors". Is that supposed to be funny? Working people who are out of work during a historic economic disaster? I think it is unethical of the LAweekly to give this callous person a voice without giving a voice to the animal protection movement.

The L.A. Animal cruelty task force is investigating this as we are and it is a serious matter, not a joke. Only a corporate jackass could have come up with a stunt like this. Furhtermore, we find this stupid stunt demeaning to the Latino animal rights community, painting them as "dumb, tacky animal abusers." The Latino community does not find these stereotypes amusing at all. Carole Davis, Companion Animal Protection Societywww.caps-web.org
