Synthetic Marijuana Caused Psychosis For Southern California Users Who Ended Up in a Hospital

Maybe the DEA had good cause when it banned so-called synthetic marijuana in an emergency move that took effect in March.

Researchers recently revealed that the drug can cause up to eight days of psychosis and, in some cases, "months" worth of mental chaos.

And you thought shrooms were hardcore.

The findings were revealed over the weekend at the American Psychiatric Association's annual meeting.

The research was done right here in Southern California.

According to an association statement, researchers looked at ten patients admitted to the Naval Medical Center in San Diego for symptoms related to use of the synth pot, sold
under such brands as Spice and K2.

The users ...

... experienced ongoing psychotic symptoms, including auditory and visual hallucinations, paranoid delusions, odd or flat affect, thought blocking, disorganized speech, thoughts of suicide, insomnia, slowed reaction times, agitation and anxiety. Psychotic symptoms generally resolved between five and eight days after admission, but in some cases continued three months or longer.

We've said it before and we'll say it again. Why?

This stuff makes medical marijuana look downright wholesome.

This stuff is scary. My 16 yr. old nephew ha been sitting in a psychiatric hospital fo the pat 15 days with no signs of getting better. He is paranoid and confused. This stuff needs to be banned.

Ive actually experience K2s mental effects, im lucky it wasnt to long lasting.I beatbox, and im actually really good. People love this asset in me.Well one day I smoked k2 and as soon as the trip began I started cryingand laughing like crazy for no reason, then I realized why I was cry, I WAS A BEATBOXERI was crying because I had found that I had a talent that not alot of people have. I called my mom and went on about how I was going to be a professional beatboxer and thatI had found my occupation, (IT was the k2 talking not me) this delusion went on for weeks without me realizing it was the k2. I kept smoking everyday and more delusions came.I started thinking I had multiple personalities living inside of me and that I was living 5 lifes.I honestly believed this shit, and then I snapped, I got mad and beat the shit out of my moms boyfriend for telling me i was crazy, It seemed rational through my eyes, but looking back on it I looked like a wired crack head ready to kill anything in sight.

It can happen to anyone, and you wont even realize it.

Totally agreed, some new stuff called MD5 made its way to Missouri (where I'm from), and as we know it always starts at the coast so I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same stuff these guys tripped on. I'm an occasional marijuana user and figured i'd pick some up to give it a try, one hit later: I'm up walking outside of the house at 1 a.m. with my dad following me down the street, but I couldn't understand anything he was saying (he was speaking without really saying anything meaningful, just basic phrases like "we've got to find the thing"), finally I turned to him and confronting him saying "you aren't my dad.. you're the high." and I ended up freaking my dad out because I believed he had truly became a personification of my high.. scary stuff, thank God I got out of it, but the auditory hallucinations of what I heard coming from my dad's mouth as well as the paranoid delusion are enough to show me this isn't synthetic weed. I would say smoking new brands of synthetic "weed" is the equivalent of reaching into a bowl full of pills and acid tabs and seeing what happens. Pure idiocy.
