Porn Addiction: The Global Industry Based in Los Angeles is a Growing Problem For ... Women?

Women account for one out of three porn site visitors.
When you think about the audience for the multi-billion-dollar, LA.-based porn industry, you usually think men.

That would be a good instinct, but not entirely correct. In fact there's some evidence that women are a big slice of the adult market partly, perhaps, because you can partake from the comfort of your laptop instead of having to BYO hand sanitizer to your favorite Hollywood "book store" (not that we'd know much about this stuff).

Now there are reports this spring the a growing number of women are experiencing a problem previously only attributed to sad, lonely men like Charlie Sheen:

Porn addiction.

The website Internet Filter Review says that nearly 1 out of 5 women are "struggling with pornography addiction."

(That seems a little high to us. That actually number cited is 17 percent. Still ... ).

The site also claims that one out of three porn site visitors are women.

Sasha Grey quit porn.

And women, like their male counterparts, can have a hard time recovering after getting hooked on porn because there's shame and embarrassment involved. It can be hard to reach out.

Sex therapist Emma Schmidt tells Cincinnati station WKRC:

I think it's a shame issue. I think it's shame and guilt. You don't hear people talk about it.

Still, one man's porn is often another woman's soft-core journey:

Females are more attracted to the fantasy of the story -- erotica -- than the male-oriented graphic physiology of getting it on, as our sister site LA After Dark recently indicated.

Pornography addiction counselor Vickie Burress tells WKRC,"A lot of pornography addiction for women starts with romance novels."

And fantasies of Johnny Depp.

Nothing new.  Women enjoy everything men do including porn, masturbation, sex and even leering at the opposite sex in subtle ways.  Cheating is where the ladies really excel.

The ladies have just mastered the art of discretion and subtlety.  Men just don't care and don't really mind it being out there b/c it's how we love to beat our chests with our dickbeaters while ladies keep their toys in a secret place.

Lastly, porn is good for anytime in any relationship.  If you can't pee with the door open or watch pigtails and round asses #7 together on a Monday night, then just move on.

I for one kind of am glad to hear this.... not the addiction part, but the part about women enjoying this as much as men.

Let's see. It smells better. It doesn't hit you, knock you up, or give you an STD. The reason women don't talk about it, is, that as soon as anyone thinks you have a " problem", all the stalkers come out of the woodwork.

Hehe, I'm smelt some of those DVD's before... they do kinda stink :-P Joking aside, your right about the Knock you up, Knock you out or Give you the Clap part. But then again, you have to wonder what kind of jack ass would do those things to you.

RightHanded 0 minutes ago I'm a very attractive woman in my late 30s who have no problem attracting men. Porn and masturbation is for when I don't have a LTR boyfriend; it's not my preference. I don't tell anyone because it's my private life. And if I didn't have access to online porn here at home in my apt. I'd be out there humping lamp posts at 2 am - it keeps me sane. Masturbating is often just a physical release, like a sneeze. Most online porn is ugly or comical or both, it's very difficult to find something decent. BTW: it's not about the fantasy aspect, it's purely a visual thing. And for the record: I have never fantasized about a celeb. Ever. So please stop making assumptions about women's views on sex.
