Walking the walk.
There are perp walks. And power walks. Now there's a SlutWalk coming to West Hollywood tomorrow.

But before you line the parade route, Charlie Sheen, note that the participants aren't embracing your kind. Rather they're protesting the notion, uttered this spring by a Toronto cop, that "dressing like sluts" could get women raped.

It sparked a global backlash. The SlutWalk, since successfully organized in Toronto, Boston, Amsterdam and Brazil, was born.

Participants want it known that it doesn't matter if they're in high heels or long pants -- nothing invites rape.

Saturday's event happens at noon at West Hollywood Park (647 N. San Vicente Blvd.).

Bring your heels. Or not.

i get the message and all. and rape is wrong of course. but dressing in things like fishnets and thongs and walking down the street is kinda counter productive. it makes you more of a target. if a woman walked around town dressed as a "slut" it makes her more of a target than a woman dressed like a normal person. by all means wear whatever you want. but it makes you stand out more. and be a target.

I was wearing jeans when I got raped. Your thoughts "if a woman walked around town dressed as a "slut" it makes her more of a target than a woman dressed like a normal person" are exactly why this movement was started. No one should be an effing target because of what they wear. Stop blaming the victim and instead blame the f***ers that ARE THE ACTUAL RAPISTS.

I hope these protesters aren't dressing skimpy to get this important message across. Girls, dressing like a "slut" isn't going to liberate you. Men are, and will always be wired a certain way...all they see is ASS and TITS (and then check to see if the face is worth looking at). This walk (if inviting women to dress "slutty") is another reason why we're objectified. Thanks. Maybe if you covered it up and had something smart to say someone might actually listen to what you're protesting for, instead of being distracted.

So what about the women covered in BURKAS who are raped daily in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan? Under your line of thinking, they ARE covered UP. How do you explain that rape? How do you explain their being objectified? Right.

1. I'm talking about American society. 2. Like what this walk is trying to promote, I'm trying to say that RAPE, for the most part, is not caused by the way you dress, its caused by F****D UP MEN . 3. Taliban -brainwashed men are another example of men that are f****d up, and that is a whole other story.

We need to change these f****d up male mentalities, and I don't think women can do that by wearing skimpy outfits. Thats just giving men eye candy, and giving them more of a reason to think of them as sex objects. 80% of what is running through Average Joe's mind while hes driving down the street isn't gonna be "oh what an interesting cause let me look into it" its probably gonna be "oh sweet ass and tits" Thats just reality.*btw- I'm not talking in behalf or against this walk, just stating general opinion.

i agree. nobody should be judged on how they look. but its not just MALE mentalities. women do it too. you could see a man who is physically unattractive, yet he might be the nicest guy on the planet. but most women will first gravitate toward the attractive man first. its men and women. we go for what most ascetically pleasing first. so lets stop calling it male mentalities. and call it what it is. the human condition.

That is exactly the kind of sex negative thinking that continues to keep women repressed. Women should be able to dress however they want and still be valued as human beings. Your value as a human is not based upon what you say, how you dress or who you do or do not sleep with but is intrinsic in your being.

The kinds of people that don't value women as "human beings" are the kind of men that have no respect for them. That's where the problem lies. I believe women hold a tremendous amount of power in the palms of their hands, but many just don't know how to utilize it properly. To change society we must start by changing individuals- the future generations. If a women has confidence and respect for herself, she'll eventually transcend that to her children, and so forth a generation evolves. We're biologically able to bear kids for a reason. Most people perceive the world as they've seen it, so its hard to change the way they think.

Victim-blaming is just a way of controlling women's sexual behavior or suspected sexual behavior. The mere threat of being unjustly blamed keeps us in line. I love the way that Jaclyn Friedman describes the ideal of sexual consent as being not just the absence of a "no", but an actual affirmative "yes". Only yes means yes. Otherwise keep your GD d!*k to yourself.
