Marijuana Remains a Top Outlaw Drug Under U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Ruling Today

It's no use.
A nine-year effort to get the government to reclassify marijuana as a drug with at least some legitimate uses ended in a FAIL today after the DEA just said no.

Pro-pot forces, however, say they'll appeal the decision to the U.S. Circuit Court in Washington.

As it stands, cannabis is still a top-level "Schedule 1" federal outlaw drug -- considered more illicit than even cocaine, which has some legit medical uses. Weed advocates were trying to get Washington to realize what we know here in Cali:

That pot has at least some medicinal uses.

But the 9-year-old petition for reclassification by the Coalition for Rescheduling Cannabis, including a recent lawsuit that prompted the DEA to get off its ass on this, was denied by the agency today.

The drug agency states that ...

... marijuana has a high potential for abuse, has no accepted medical use in the United States, and lacks an acceptable level of safety for use even under medical supervision.

The pro-pot troops, including Joe Elford, chief counsel of Americans for Safe Access, still have high hopes that the government will overcome is cannaphobia.

Elford:

Although this superficially looks like a defeat for the medical marijuana community. It simply maintains the status quo. More importantly, however, we have foiled the government's strategy of delay and we can now go head-to-head on the merits, that marijuana really does have therapeutic value.

The feds say this at the same time they OWN a patent on cannabinoids as neuroprotectants and antioxidants.  The patent number is 5530507 and can be verified at www.uspto.gov . Cannabis was in the United States Pharmacopia (USP) for over 100 years, so the US govt. USED to say that cannabis was medicine, until they decided that they wanted to outlaw hemp.

Jury Nullification
Jury Nullification

Jury Nullification.  More people need to be aware of this.  "A jury can nullify a law that it believes unjust or wrongly applied."  Furthermore, "Judges are not required to inform you of jury nullification power.  In many jurisdictions it is forbidden for attorneys to advise a jury of the possibility, and jurors must learn it through extra-legal sources."  That is why I am letting all of you know ; )  If you want to educate yourself more, please read a short illustrated book by the same author who brought you "Go the Fuck to Sleep."  If you read that book, do yourself a favor and read this one as well, as he is offering it free for download. If you are ever involved in a jury and feel the laws are unjust or being wrongly applied you can educate your fellow jurors on the subject.  We need to change our mindset.  Stop trying to get out of jury duty and start using your power to stop the overbearing authority. The LA Meekly does not allow me to post links so you must find this book yourself, hopefully that will not deter you from learning and sharing with everyone you know the facts about Jury Nullification.  To make it easy just Google "illustrated guide to jury nullification" and it should be the first result, it is a pdf.  I wonder why Google doesn't suggest it once you start typing it in?  Dennis, would you run a story on jury nullification?  I am sure you could help educate people on this topic.  Maybe you could even reply to my comment with a link to the book.

I think your correct I have seen it work in Baltimore, when a Asian student was robbed and shot in the face point blank and killed in front of witnesses  and a all black jury fed up with incarcerating countless black youth acquitted  the youths.  The community was out raged but so also the black community.  This case was an in justice to the Asian family. how ever it does show the power of the jury and Jury Nullification might be the tool..
