The street where Bobby Jones was killed
On March 4, Bobby Jones died of a gunshot wound in the 4100 block of Palmwood Drive in Crenshaw. The 28-year-old black man got into an argument with the alleged shooter in the street of a residential neighborhood.

Jones was then shot in the chest, according to coroner's records.

The Los Angeles Times reported that he was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he succumbed to his wounds around 4:30 p.m.

The location of the shooting is a block away from Santa Barbara Plaza Shopping Center and half a mile from Rancho Cienega Sports Center.

The LAPD Criminal Gang Homicide handled the case, so it can be assumed that the shooting was gang-related.

Note: Due to technical difficulties, the LA Weekly's archive of all homicides within Los Angeles city limits was discontinued near the end of last year. We will be rolling out the 2011 homicides, one by one, until our "Murder was the Case" archive is up to date. Thanks for your patience.

I continue to advocate to abolish the mayor's failed 'anti-gang' program which receives tens of millions of taxpayer dollars, which could be used to hire additional officers. The ideal number is 12,000 strong to suppress the out-of-control graffiti and gangs which terrorize  neighborhoods.  Some of these intervention gang programs take place at City parks providing such things as bingo, arts and craft, and some parent and children participation functions, And it's part time, while the gangs run unchecked terrorizing the neighborhood.  The park center is already funded through taxes.  One gang intervention contractor rents a vacant Fire Station for $1 per year for ten years.  So, where do the tens of millions go?  Good kids and adults attend the Gilliam Park center up the street from Palmwood Dr.  Most of the criminal gang activty takes place away from the park.  Gang members hide from any kind of authority.  With all this money, why hasn't 'Antonio's" 'anti-gang' staff stopped the criminal activity?  I myself was within feet, of four gun shots a couple of weeks ago.  These residents want more police officers.
