Anchor Baby Benefits in L.A. Cost Taxpayers $54 Million in June: County Leader Mike Antonovich is Pissed at Price of Illegals

Categories: Immigration

antonovich cowboy.JPG
Antonovich.
L.A. County Supervisor Mike Antonovich is continuing his campaign against illegal aliens, announcing that undocumented families that have so-called American-citizen anchor babies cost area taxpayers $54 million in welfare benefits in June alone.

He says the projected cost of such benefits to partially illegal families this year will be $624 million. We say partially because it appears that the benefits are targeting citizen children.

But here's how Antonovich slices it:

With the $550 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for healthcare, the total cost for illegal immigrants to County taxpayers exceeds $1.6 billion dollars a year. These costs do not include the hundreds of millions of dollars for education.

That's a ballsy proclamation in a town that's half Latino. But hey, Antonovich is a guy who portrays himself as a cowboy-hat wearing horse rider. (Irony: The cowboy comes from Latin America. Discuss).

Anyway, it's nice to be a king like Antonovich. He's a district safe from harm in efforts by the Count Board of Supervisors' two minority members, Gloria Molina and Mark Ridley-Thomas, to redistrict our town to make it more representative of those very Latinos Antonovich seems to hate.

Now, don't get us wrong. Government budgets are hurting, and we need to take care of our own (like citizen children) before we take care of illegals.

But, let's just be honest here: This is a subsidy for an underground industry -- illegal alien labor -- we ALL (every single frigging one of you) rely on.

Is Antonovich going to say with full certainty that he's never eaten at a restaurant with illegal busboys or never had his car vacuumed by an undocumented man or never got his hedges trimmed by an illegal? Really?

And while it's not your fault if the restaurant you're at has a brown guy with no papers lurking in the kitchen WE ALL benefit at least indirectly from illegal immigrant labor. That is a reality.

So let's deal with this based on that reality.

Buses take illegal immigrants to their jobs on the Westside everyday. They take care of our babies everyday. They wash our dishes everyday.

So, yes, we subsidize them. Metro, our bus and train system, is subsidized, and rich Westsiders benefit. And if they need food stamps or a little welfare (trust us, they want to work), that's a part of this dirty deal we have going on.

The flip side of all this is that illegals work for illegal wages with a lack of benefits and rights. Now, if we're unhappy with the related subsidies, lets stop them at the border the let them know we want a better deal. Perhaps we should negotiate even lower wages and fewer rights? We could dress them up as demons, because that's what we've made them.

Now, if you want count those pennies, Mr. Antonovich, that's fine. We're with you. But remember the bigger picture here.

This is a war for our country. Illegals bringing us to third world status fast. And it is deliberate,by the globalists and corporations-not to mention the dems who want an uninformed electorate that has to depend on them. Some of us will continue to fight .The illegals are being used by these factions. Little do they realize that they are creating a culture much like that which they fled.

No, it's nimrods like you that are taking this country down the tubes because you're incapable of seeing the forest for the trees. Fix the demand problem and you solve all of these others things that drive you so insanely stupid.

And who NIMROD is responsible for seeing that our laws are ignored? The politicians who want to keep em coming. And those who support financially these same politicians.By the way- speaking of demand your states moronic in-state tuition law will most definitely keep em coming and the state of California is gone! The reconquista has won and California is only the beginning.Support e-verify and turn off the magnet is the right thing-but you are forgetting who controls it dumbo!

Immigrants pay taxes every time they buy something at a store and do jobs that a "regular" citizens won't do for the wage it keeps the cost down on many products. To make them your scapegoat pittyfull , and to target Lations is racist , immigrants come from every country and come in every race and color.

Immigrants do come from every country... But this is the LA weekly blog, and we're talking about LA county, and the vast majority of illegal aliens in LA county are in fact Latino.  I'm pretty sure that's not racism.

Nice counterpoint to a story Dennis obviously meant to have commented upon because of a very slow blogger's day. Smart like a fox.

My first job was actually two, started at 12-- rural route paperboy on foot (not forty-year-old "Underground Man" tossing papers from a muffler-challanged Toyota) and on an Ohio truck farm (beside struggling Kent State college students who somehow controlled their excetory urges) picking cucumbers, green beans, and tomatoes. 14-- dishwasher at the Polish-American Legion (lousy job sloshing uneaten shrimp from ingrate, Friday-Catholic's half-eaten plates).16-- grocery packer/stocker at the local family market (nights) and janitor's helper at the high school (very early mornings). Packed a lot of "welfare groceries" into Cadillac Fleetwood Broughams; and, I gained a broad understanding of the term "social inequity" as I labored beside sweating African-American men swinging floor polisher-buffers while struggling to feed their rust-belt families. 18-- apprentice electrician, working 4 years to make journeyman, thus leading at 24 to a 20 year tenure as a small business owner where I employed numerous people, who I then taught what I had learned and watched them progress onward with their lives. Luckily, I was able to attend college and obtain advanced degrees. This led me to 2nd career in public service where I worked a job mostly vilified by the general public. I eventually moved onward to my true passion-- The Arts-- where I waste time on blogs debating Dennis, who I admire for his tenacity and orneriness, in mostly fragmented sentences and widely misunderstood satire and dry humor. Much like Dennis.

Point-- who else has "An American Story"? Share.

Don't let history be rewritten by self-interest groups dependent upon the continued economic exploitation of a "migrating community" using overt, political underhandedness and militant, inflammatory arguments to ensure their own monetary gain and secure a step on the ladder.

Mr. Romero:

I agree that not all illegal aliens are bad but how many of them would have to be here before you changed your mind? Apparently millions of them here already is not enough for you.Our schools are suffering, hospitals and prisons overcrowded, gang population growing.Simple solution is an optional state tax to help illegals. You like them and want more of them you pay the tax to support them. You don't want them you don't pay the tax. Whatever tax money that is available is it. Or we can adopt Mexico's friendly immigration policies.

Mr. Romero, a question for you, if I may.  Who used to do all the work that the illegal aliens do now?  Apart from farm work, who ran the hotels, the restaurants, did the yard work, washed the cars and so forth?

I am now old enough to have some perspective, Mr. Romero, and I can assure you that at one time all of these jobs were filled by Americans.  Unskilled Americans....teenage Americans....black Americans......unemployable by virtue of criminal records Americans.....I remember a day, not so long ago, when every fast food restaurant in the United States was staffed by American teenagers, and those jobs served as a first rung on the employment ladder.  (I should know.....thanks, Taco Bell!)  I remember a day when every chambermaid in the United States was white or black, and they were usually single moms happy to have unskilled work.....I remember a day when lawn care in this country was done by teenagers and college students.

Of course, Mr. Romero, I'm certain that you believe the myth that "Americans won't do those jobs anymore."  Wrong, Mr. Romero.  Americans still will, they simply got frozen out of the labor market by illegal work-for-less labor.  Americans just want better pay for legal labor.

Yes, I ate a delightful meal tonight at a fine restaurant, and I'm almost certain an illegal alien had something to do with my meal.  The meal was delicious, and I understand illegal labor made it cheaper for me to purchase.

I will say now, and say it as often as I need and as loud as necessary:  I would pay whatever higher price is necessary to get the illegal aliens out of the kitchen of that restaurant.  I would cheerfully pay $5 per head of lettuce, or whatever else it takes to rid our nation of the pestilence of these illegal invaders.

And as far as liking Latin America,  if I wanted to live in Latin America, or Mexico, I'd move there.

Mr. Romero:  Come on now. Does it really matter why someone is here [if] they are here illegally to begin with? If some one is here illegally, matters not why they came (don’t we all want a better life?), they knowingly started with bad intentions (entering illegally). Not a good character trait Mr. Romero and certainly not a good start to a ‘better life’. You excuse criminal behavior, but do you excuse all criminal behavior or just when it concerns illegal aliens?

Antonovich developed his hatred for Mexicans when he was a teacher at Garfield High School.  Being around so many Mexicans was too much for his whiteness, I guess that's why he has an affinity for Asians - me luv you long time!  The economy of L.A. County would collapse without the influx of economic refugees.  The garment industry, hotel and restaraunt, service and retail industries would collapse.  Antonovich was a tea bagger before the tea party existed.  His recent aparthied actions in Palmdale and Lancaster won't bear racist fruit and his district will soon be a district of color, just like the rest of L.A. County.  It's good to have bigots like this in office to demonstrate that we still have a long way to go before we really have an equal society.

The Last White Hope
The Last White Hope

What asian envy?  You missed the point of my post.  Plus Mexican history goes back more than 3500 years.  Barely out of the trees?  Yet our calendar was the most advanced in the world.  My point was that Antonovich parades Asians when he needs some color in his portfolio.  This is why he kept Alhambra in his district.  It's not a matter of who will be better than the other, it is a matter of who has more dignity.  You rant against liberals yet the most successful Asian elected officials are probably the most liberal: Judy Chu, Michael Eng, Leland Yee and even Goodwin Liu. There is no envy here but definitely a lot of stupidity on your part.

The Last White Hope
The Last White Hope

Who are the "we" that have the disdain against Mexicans?  You say Mexicans are the most racists but the 2nd President of Mexico would be considerd Black in the U.S. and the last Mexican Governor of California, Pio Pico - from whence came the name Pico Rivera - would also be considered Black.  But back in that day they would be called mullato - back in that day when whites would systematically lynch Chinese coolies and enact legislation like the Chinese Exclusion Act.  You certainly have a distroted sense of history and it won't take 20 years for L.A. to be 90% Mexican, try 10 to 15.  But no one is keeping you here - head on out to those white supremacy states and see how they treat Asians.  You call us losers but it looks as if in the demagraphic arena we are the victors - and in a democracy majority rules.  Never rise above the slums? Where do you think the majority of the economic refugees in L.A. came from?  We have already risen and continue to rise.  Go watch a Bruce Lee movie, maybe you would learn a little something about Asian dignity - no wonder the majority of Asian women marry outside their race.

bull shit... mexicans are the most racist people in this country.. their hatred of blacks, asians and whites are well documented and contribute to the disdain that we have against mexicans... ever notice the only ones in favor of illegal aliens have spanish surnames?  in 20 years, l.a. will be 90% mexican, but guess what, you will never rise above the slums that you inhabit.. in a global economy, having a third grade education with 6 kids is no way to compete... hasta la vista losers

Just saying its ironic that illegal-immigrant bashers and right wingers often embrace the symbolism of the John Wayne/George W. Bush cowboy, when the cowboy milieu (and the hat and the boots) is from a place, Latin America, they don't appear to like.

Note that myself and most people who wear the hats because they ride - rather than the Urban Cowboy or Right-wing nutter ilk - pretty much despise the adoption of this symbol by what has become the recognized 'right wing' in this country. Yes, the hats evolved from Latin America, as did what most traditionally think of when someone says "cowboy" nowadays (charros and vaqueros). In reality, the cowboys of the real old west were often societal outcasts along the lines of the homeless in today's United States. They were often anti-establishment. Drifters. Migratory workers. More like what the Right whacks accuses their idea of the Left of desiring, nowadays. Those were the real cowboys in this county. Not the John Wayne and Randolph Scott version. But I digress.

That's a pretty broad brush, Dennis. Having an issue related to the fiscal burden on the County of illegal immigration is equal to disliking Latin America?  Smells like race-baiting to me, Dennis. I suggest you stick to the detail of the situation rather than baiting.

Mr. Romero:You’ve conveniently forgotten a detail in the bigger picture also and it happens to be the most important detail: These illegal aliens knowingly and willingly entered the United States with ill intent. They knowingly and willingly came to lie, cheat, and steal and they benefit directly from their anchor babies. And there is absolutely no getting around that detail. Had you an iota of journalist integrity, you would have mentioned that detail.

Dennis, the cost of illegal aliens FAR out weigh the so called benefits. Having my fruits and veggies picked and saving cost (if it is true...doubtful) doesn't hold a candle to what we have given illegal aliens and their anchors in FREE k-12 education, which included FREE breakfast/lunch, deprevation of our school budgets to teach them English even though they refuse to assimilate, FREE medical and social services. As a matter of fact, according to an April report issued by the Centers for Immigration Studies cis.org 70% of illegal alien hispanic families receive welfare!Yeah, I could do without eating at a restaurant where the illegal alien help have not received a health inspection...just say'in

P.S., This group of entitled people have never shown appreciation to America for what they have received, just give me more! Tired of it! We owe them NOTHING!

Youare:

I'm giving anyone an excuse. What I'm saying is that those who blame illegal immigrants for things like the costs of welfare in the county should also take into account how much all of us depend on them everyday -- how integral they are to our society and how we subsidize them in different ways without giving them fair wages or rights.

If you're stance is that it's 100 percent wrong, that's fine and perhaps even justifiable. But then you'll also have to live in a world without the benefits of illegals, from higher restaurant and food prices on down the line.

That's what I'm saying.
