Medical Marijuana Across America Someday? Obama Stumbles When Asked

Which way Obama?
President Obama, like a beautiful woman who is the target of unrequited love, is an enigma when it comes to his marijuana policy.

Marijuana bad, marijuana good? Who knows. We do know that his administration penned a memo a few years back asking feds to back off on enforcement and prosecution in medical-legal states. At the same time, feds have not backed down on enforcement and prosecution in medical-legal states, making pro-pot forces furious.

So which way does his wind blow? Not even Obama, it seems, knows:

At a town hall meeting in Minnesota Monday, Obama was asked about his stance on medical marijuana, an issue near and dear to many folks, particularly in California.

"If you can't legalize marijuana, why can't you just legalize medical marijuana?" a woman asked.

Obama:

A lot of states are making decisions about medical marijuana. As a controlled substance, the issue is then that is it being prescribed by a doctor as opposed to... you know, well, I'll leave it at that.

Obama's a sharp guy -- much more on his toes than a predecessor who continued reading a children's book while the United States was in the midst of its worst-ever terrorist attack -- and we've rarely seen him caught flat footed like this.

Our read? He's pro-medical marijuana, but he can't be seen as such as Republicans fight for their presidential nomination and battle over who can make Obama seem more liberal.

Now's not the time for him, politically, to embrace weed.

Leave it at what? Unanswered and confused? The most pathetic and empty response to this question yet. This attitude could cost Dems the Presidency if it is handled correctly. There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of votes that may very well side with a Republican candidate who 'truthfully' sides with the rights of citizens to pass laws regarding medical cannabis. Heck, at this point there are going to be more than quite a few liberal voters who feel VERY discarded and unimportant after the '08 elections.

Give us someone to vote for and see what happens............

If he's not reading off a screen, he doesn't know what to say. It's becoming plainly obvious he's not only in over his head, the dude is drowning, and he's taking us all down with him. And before I get the brain dead liberals crying, dude, I'm totally for legalizing weed as is everyone with half a brain. I voted for Obama, but unlike most of you I'm honest. The guy is the worst president of my life time, with good ol George Bush coming in  a very close second. This is getting sad. Somebody please kidnap Chris Christie and make him run for president. It would be nice to have a guy in the white house who knows what the hell he's doing. Between the last two clowns, even Jimmy Carter starts to look coherent. I don't care how great America is, we can't afford another 4 years of this garbage, we simply cannot survive with this kind of inept leadership.

Jesus said to do unto others as we would have them to do unto us. None of us would want our child thrown in jail with the sexual predators over marijuana. None of us would want to see an older family member’s home confiscated and sold by the police for growing a couple of marijuana plants for their aches and pains. It’s time to stop putting our own family members in jail over marijuana.   If ordinary Americans could grow a little marijuana in their own back yards, it would be about as valuable as home-grown tomatoes. Let's put the criminals out of business and get them out of our neighborhoods. Let's let ordinary Americans grow a little marijuana in their own back yards.

Why do you deliberately fool yourself like that? You look stupid. Or are you trying to fool the public? He is 'owned' by organized crime and they will NEVER allow us to legalize pot, there is way too much money in it as a black market product.

Marijuana prohibition is an unconstitutional religious discrimination against my church, the THC Ministry, so why does he allow it? And why do newspapers always ignore that FACT? Conspiracy to commit ethnic cleansing? Genocide?

Well I guess if you all have been doing it to us for years, the last thing you'd want to do is admit to it. Think of the damages and the potential lawsuits ...

This is not a bi-partisan issue. In fact, when it comes to state sovereignty, republican values should stand up against the federal intervention on state rights.

I like to hope that Obama might take a more progressive stance on cannabis after he wins reelection... If he wins reelection... I'll be voting for Ron Paul, thanks.

I grew up in South Central L.A. Im poor,im hispanic. I grew up listening to punk. Most of my ideas may seem liberal. Im pro secular government. I like state over federal government.

And if it comes to be(which i dont think it will) i will vote Ron Paul. And i didnt vote for W.Bush Obama.(Lucifer Clinton ::Suck it! ::)

Not Democrat vs Republican
Not Democrat vs Republican

Ron Paul is for legalization of marijuana and he is a Republican.  How could Obama's stance be seen as more liberal than that?  I think it is more of a rational vs. irrational view than a Democrat vs. Republican thing.  Obama is for the status quo, which entails keeping MJ illegal regardless of how irrational that position is.  Ron Paul, despite being a Republican, is being rational because he is not for the status quo and does not have to keep the old guard in place and happy.

My read: the author of this blogs read "He's pro-medical marijuana, but he can't be seen as such as Republicans fight for their presidential nomination and battle over who can make Obama seem more liberal" could NOT be more wrong.

let's face buddy Ron paul isn't going anywhere, especially the white house, that's why he can side with legalizing it, I gaurantee you if he were to become commander in chief he would back track, flip flop, it's the republican way........
