Plane Crashes Into Santa Monica Home: Only Pilot Suffers Injuries

Another year month another plane crash near Santa Monica Airport.

This one happened about 2:30 p.m. after a plane piloted by a student flyer nose dived into a house near 21st and Navy streets in Santa Monica, according to KNX 1070 Newsradio.

Amazingly, nobody was seriously hurt:

The house was mostly empty, the station reported (painters had been working on it, but they weren't injured), and the pilot suffered only a broken leg.

The National Transportation Safety Board was said to be investigating.

City News Service reports that a good Samaritan pulled the pilot out of the plane and that someone also doused a small fire with a garden hose following the accident.

It was one of many small-plane crashes around the urban airport over the years. Neighbors complain not only about airport noise there but about the proximity of aircraft to homes and schools.

Last year month a plane crashed into Penmar Golf Course nearby. That one was fatal. And once again it involved a student pilot.

Added: CBS2 reports that the plane crashed into a wall next to the house. The house, the station reports, was under renovation and there were workers on-site who were not injured.

Update: Looks like those guys working on that house rescued the pilot, who was screaming in agony (see video, above).

Fox 11 News' Tony Valdez says the pilot had just taken off for Santa Barbara, experienced some trouble, possibly mechanical in nature, and crashed on his second attempt at a landing back at Santa Monica Airport.
