Ground Zero on the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
The 10th anniversary of 9/11 went smoothly, with solemn tributes in New York.

But the day wasn't without its clowns and news-makers, some of whom seemed to have originated from right here in L.A.

Kicking off the weekend was a 62-year-old who allegedly carried "a suitcase with wires exposed that looked like a device" onto a Metro bus Saturday, sheriff's Deputy Tony Moore said.

Eugenio Parades was arrested ...

... at Vermont Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard in Koreatown shortly before 6 p.m., authorities said.

Cops at the scene took four hours to take a look at the device, said to have included something resembling a timer, and clear the bus.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of making terrorist threats (allegedly to the driver of the bus) and possessing a hoax device.

Not to be outdone, two or three travelers on a plane from L.A. to New York spooked flight staffers enough that two F-16 jets were scrambled to escort American Airlines flight 34 for 100 miles as it headed to John F. Kennedy International Airport and landed safely shortly after 4 p.m.

The problem?

It's not clear. Some reports indicated the two or three locked themselves in the bathroom and wouldn't come out. A mile-high menage a trois?

U.S. air marshals were reportedly on the plane and helped get the situation resolved.

Whew. Next time get a room. On the ground.
