A 31-year-old mother was drunk when the SUV she was driving flipped and injured six children inside, including a 1-year-old boy who ended up having his foot amputated, authorities alleged.

It happened along Avenue I near 65th Street East about five miles east of Lancaster shortly after 6 Sunday morning, said Sgt. Denise Joslin of the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities say the driver, Stanesha Nicole Allen ...

... is the mother of three of the injured children. Two others are reportedly foster children and another is said to be her niece. They're all from nearby Lake Los Angeles.

One of the worst cases in the 2002 Toyota Sequoia was a 4-year-old girl who suffered major head trauma, Joslin of the CHP said. The girl and the 1-year-old boy were both airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital in critical condition.

The others -- a a 10-month-old girl, 6-year-old girl, a 7-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy, sustained moderate to minor injuries, Joslin said.

The suspect, Allen, sustained only moderate injuries when the SUV veered off the road.

"She going to remain in the hospital for a couple of days," Joslin said.

The CHP officer hinted that cops were ready to throw the book at her when she gets out.

Update: Shiara Dávila-Morales of the D.A.'s office announced that Allen has been charged with the following:

... Six counts each of child abuse and child restraint law violation, and one count each of DUI causing injury and driving with a .08% blood alcohol causing injury.

She is also accused of inflicting "great bodily injury" on the two victims that were hospitalized in critical condition.

Allen pleaded not guilty to the allegations today. She's being held in lieu of $1.7 million bail.

If convicted she could see up to 19 years behind bars, according to the D.A.'s office.
