An alleged DUI crash injured six children near Lancaster.
Updated at the bottom: The District Attorney's office threw the book at her. First posted at 7:04 a.m. on Monday.

A 31-year-old mother was drunk when the SUV she was driving flipped and injured six children inside, including a 1-year-old boy who ended up having his foot amputated, authorities alleged.

It happened along Avenue I near 65th Street East about five miles east of Lancaster shortly after 6 Sunday morning, said Sgt. Denise Joslin of the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities say the driver, Stanesha Nicole Allen ...

... is the mother of three of the injured children. Two others are reportedly foster children and another is said to be her niece. They're all from nearby Lake Los Angeles.

One of the worst cases in the 2002 Toyota Sequoia was a 4-year-old girl who suffered major head trauma, Joslin of the CHP said. The girl and the 1-year-old boy were both airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital in critical condition.

The others -- a a 10-month-old girl, 6-year-old girl, a 7-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy, sustained moderate to minor injuries, Joslin said.

The suspect, Allen, sustained only moderate injuries when the SUV veered off the road.

"She going to remain in the hospital for a couple of days," Joslin said.

The CHP officer hinted that cops were ready to throw the book at her when she gets out.

Update: Shiara Dávila-Morales of the D.A.'s office announced that Allen has been charged with the following:

... Six counts each of child abuse and child restraint law violation, and one count each of DUI causing injury and driving with a .08% blood alcohol causing injury.

She is also accused of inflicting "great bodily injury" on the two victims that were hospitalized in critical condition.

Allen pleaded not guilty to the allegations today. She's being held in lieu of $1.7 million bail.

If convicted she could see up to 19 years behind bars, according to the D.A.'s office.

It makes me sick to think there are people like this who the state will allow to become foster parents! These people are the ones that give foster parents a bad name! *barf*

I hope she spends the rest of her pathetic life in considerable pain. Physical and emotional.

Thanks for the picture of the road. I had no idea that an SUV crash could occur on a road. Seriously, what people want to see is the mug shot of the perp. Anything less is, well, less.

Child please what your family needs to pay attention to is not allowing drunk people to get behind the wheel and drive themselve let alone your children. If you cared so much for your family you wouldnt have let her drive in the first place.Stop putting the blame on everyone else in the world, the media , the economy thats BULLSHIT every other american has been affected by the failing economy and we havent drove our children drunk. You even want to blame it on the bad conditions of the road rather then have her accept the responsibility for her actions I mean come on a childs foot had to cut off!!!!

I heard the sirens before I knew what happened I live about 3 miles away from where she crashed. I have driven that road hundreds of times so for excuses now is not the time your sister needs to step up and take responsibility for her actions. As for her tires again that's on her she is getting money from the state to take care of children and apparently that was a mistake. A mother would not get drunk and drive with one child let alone six are you kidding me!! She needs to spend the rest of her life in jail and someone else will be paid to take care of her kids. Don't make excuses for her she is a BIG girl now!!

If she was driving while intoxicated with children in the car, I don't care what was wrong with the roads or her car. She's at fault. And, your language says a lot about you. As a Mom and Foster Mom, I have no sympathy for anyone that takes children's lives into their own hands. As far as her car, if the tires were bad, that's her responsibility as well! Take some of the $1200/mo to fix it and make it safe for the kids! Tires aren't that expensive and, as a Foster Parent, its her job to keep those kids safe at all times. I do pray that the kids recover and that she also recovers. When her BAC tests come back, you'll know whether or not she was drinking. If she was not, I wish her all the best. If she was, I hope they throw the book at her! Regardless, the kids are the biggest victims here.
