Hermosa Beach Cigarette Nazis Ban Smoking Pretty Much Everywhere in South Bay Town

Hermosa Beach: Woo! Wait, not woo.
Ah, the South Bay.

Home of the Beach Boys, the laid-back, California lifestyle and, of course, white people partying.

And now it's also where you'll find ... cigarette Nazis!

That's right, the salt-air breezes don't seem to dissipate the anti-smoking tsunami sweeping California (West Hollywood, Santa Monica):

The Hermosa Beach City Council this week voted to outlaw smoking pretty much everywhere.

A city report describes the new law this way: " ... Smoking is prohibited in all outdoor dining and other public areas."

The ordinance, which goes into effect March 1 and is backed by fines of up to $500, says smoking is outlawed in "restaurant patios/outdoor dining, Pier Plaza, all city parks and greenbelt, the Strand and public parking lots."

At least one resident was smoking mad. Travers Devine wrote to the council:

I have serious difficulty in accepting a ban on smoking outdoors. In the open air smoke dissipates to a point where the threat to an individual's health is minimal if existent at all. The ban is unnecessary, an extremist measure and counterproductive to business interests.

Amen. What do you think?

Smoking bans are rampant nowadays. While this promotes a positive thing for the environment as well as to the health of non-smokers, it creates prejudice to those who are smoking. The authorities can regulate or designate areas for those who are smoking and encourage responsible smoking instead.

I'm a non smoker and I even disagree with this. It's OUTSIDE for christs sake. Welcome to America, the land of the free except all the insane unnecessary rules you have to follow. And do they really think that ppl that party in hermosa are going to keep coming to hermosa if they literally can't smoke anywhere!?!?!?

I am happy for the ban, not because it does/does not damage my health, but because the smoke hurts my throat and burns my eyes.  The smoke dissipates in the air, sure, but before it does it blows into my face and makes me uncomfortable. Why should I have to be the one to move due to a person smoking, when I wasn't doing anything to bother anyone?  Maybe this will help Hermosa stay clean, too, with less butts in street gutters and on the beach.

It’s extraordinary how little Americans know about their ownhistory. Eugenics (which is also anti-tobacco, anti-alcohol, dietaryprescriptions/proscriptions, physical exercise) did not originate with theNazis. It was popularized in America. By the 1920s, 33 American states had sterilization laws, Prohibition had been enacted, and there was the constant attempt to introduce a tobacco version of Prohibition. California performed, by far, the most sterilizations in America - ~20,000; the next highest was in the 7,000s. Both the Temperance (questionable religious leanings) and Eugenics (dominated by doctors) Movements played a critical part in anti-tobacco/alcohol but it was the latter that had clout with the legislature. Eugenics is a shallow, dangerous philosophy; when doctors venture into social/lifestyle engineering, they become a dangerous entity.

Anti-tobacco (and anti-alcohol, dietaryprescriptions/proscriptions, physical exercise) then reared its head in NaziGermany. The common denominator with American anti-tobacco was eugenics.

Post WWII, the eugenicists in America, where the issue of eugenics was never resolved, simply dropped the racial/heredity/breeding dimension that it was most notorious for, stopped using the “E”[ugenics] word, and emphasized the behavioral dimension of eugenics. If we take the eugenics in America of early last century and remove the racial dimension, what do you have left? Exactly what we have been seeing the last 4 decades. And, again, it is California that leads the way in the neo-eugenics derangement.

People, wake up!

It takes at least 20 years, if ever, for a heavy smoker to get any disease suspected to be caused by smoking.  How many years would it take a non-smoker to get the same disease smelling whiffs of thousands of times second hand smoke in the outdoors?  Can we say a few thousands?  If anti-smokers intend to live that long God help the survival of humanity!

Should read  '' smelling whiffs of thousands of times DILUTED second hand smoke ''

Anti-smoking/tobacco is not new. It has a long, sordidhistory. And much of the history predates the concocted idea of secondhandsmoke “danger”.

Headline is biased and amateur. Then again, smoking does kill millions of innocent people ... just like the Nazis.

Restaraunts and bars could be legally shut down over their own cooking smoke or released carcinogens from alcohol if we are forced to accept the second hand smoke nonsence.

Factories large and small obtain EPA permits to discharge pollutants, yet restaraunts are not, nor bars for having open alcohol present in an enclosed public space that also releases minute amounts of carcinogens.Yet we dont regulate nor outlaw restaraunt cooking smoke or carcenogenic alcoholic fumes! The same principle has always applied to cigarette smoke inside restaurants and bars.

Heres what cooking smoke equates too!

A study found that grilling four large steaks, four turkey cuts and eight large sausages for two hours can release the same level of dioxins as up to 220,000 cigarettes.

Dioxins are also found in ham, milk, children's balloons and tap water. Also, cooking a fish produces micrograms of these Dioxins yet only femptograms and nanograms in tobacco smoke!

Tobacco control claims endolethial dysfunction/heart disease from second hand smoke! You get the same effect eating a thanksgiving dinner at a restaraunt or eating a cheeseburger or cereal and milk!

The lifetime lung cancer risk  for eating red meat is over TEN TIMES HIGHER than the excess risk supposedly caused by constant daily exposure to high levels of secondhand smoke. Yet a non-smoker in a smoking diner might get the annual equivalency of half a cigarette per year. You will also note that the smoking of 5-6 cigarettes a day has not been shown to increase the risk for any supposed tobacco related health risks! Will the anti-tobacco lobby now support a ban on 4th of july cookouts in the parks of California or even push lawsuits against the restaraunts and dad for cooking outdoors based upon femptograms and nanograms of ficticous levels of harm!

Here are just some of the chemicals present in tobacco smoke and what else contains them:Arsenic, Benzine, Formaldehyde.Arsenic- 8 glasses of water = 200 cigarettes worth of arsenicBenzine- Grilling of one burger = 250 cigarettes Formaldehyde – cooking a vegetarian meal = 100 cigarettes

As I have said if you accept the idea of a smoking ban based upon their INSANITY of science then you accept the demise of your ow freedom and that of others and business by the hand of that same science you base your backing of indoor and outdoor bans on! Rediculous doesnt even come close to match such a reason for backing any smoking ban for the same non-sensical junk science can and will be used to crucify everybody else.

harleyrider1989

You will also note that Stanton Glantz among many others are the authors of most of the JUNK SCIENCE spread on second hand smoke,it was the MEATBALL TAX on cigs that started the anti-cigarette/tobacco movement. It funded the anti-tobacco school of public prohibition for sake of using their real name! Their latest MYTHOLOGY STUDY IS  3RD HAND SMOKE!

OSHA who has jurisdiction over indoor air has made this their official policy regarding indoor smoking and the RABID PROHIBITIONISTS SUED OSHA TO GET A RULE AGAINST INDOOR SMOKING,yet they failed because actual science doesnt back them up on bit!

Field studies of environmental tobacco smoke indicate that under normal conditions, the components in tobacco smoke are diluted below existing Permissible Exposure Levels (PELS.) as referenced in the Air Contaminant Standard (29 CFR 1910.1000)...It would be very rare to find a workplace with so much smoking that any individual PEL would be exceeded." -Letter From Greg Watchman, Acting Sec'y, OSHA

The author didnt just pick the NAZI name becuase of simple hatred against those who outlaw freedom and liberty It has a historical context that fits perfectly with these anti-tobacco pundits all over the country not just california even though thats where the anti-tobacco prohibition movement was born and spread like a vicous cancer thur out the world!

Hitler was a Leftist Hitler's Anti-Tobacco Campaign One particularly vile individual, Karl Astel -- upstanding president of Jena University, poisonous anti-Semite, euthanasia fanatic, SS officer, war criminal and tobacco-free Germany enthusiast -- liked to walk up to smokers and tear cigarettes from their unsuspecting mouths. (He committed suicide when the war ended, more through disappointment than fear of hanging.) It comes as little surprise to discover that the phrase "passive smoking" (Passivrauchen) was coined not by contemporary American admen, but by Fritz Lickint, the author of the magisterial 1100-page Tabak und Organismus ("Tobacco and the Organism"), which was produced in collaboration with the German AntiTobacco League.

The Nazi attachment isnt just a name picked at random by the author,he just failed to attach the historical significance to the claim!

You might have come up with a headline that didn't compare those who want to control smoking in public places with those who killed millions of people in WW2. Just saying.
