Kenneth Alexander, Sheriff's Deputy, Arrested For Allegedly Molesting 15-Year-Old Girl He Met On-Duty

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy assigned to the Marina Del Rey station was arrested for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old girl that authorities say he met while on-duty.

A sheriff's statement indicates a phone tip to the Los Angeles County Child Abuse Hotline led detectives to the suspect, who was arrested this morning.

Sheriff's officials say he was booked on suspicion of three felony counts of molestation and that the prospect of formal charges is in the hands of the L.A. County District Attorney.

Alexander is accused of molesting the girl in the View Park neighborhood while he was off-duty, though he is said to have met her while in uniform last year.

After interviewing the officer Sept. 19, he was relieved of duty with pay, sheriff's officials say.

The girl was interviewed by the department's own Special Victims Bureau.

The sheriff's statement indicates investigators had a hard time tracking down the suspect at first -- with the name given by a tipster being "incorrect."

[Update]: Just as we posted this story a statement came through from the D.A.s office:

Kenneth Alexander (dob 6/30/66) is charged with one count of oral copulation of a person under 16 and two counts of lewd act upon a child age 15.

The defendant is expected to appear for arraignment on Nov. 10 in Department 144 of Airport Court. He is charged in case No. SA079008.

Alexander, who was charged in a felony complaint for arrest warrant on Oct. 19, turned himself in to authorities this morning at the Sheriff's Carson station and immediately posted $115,000 bail, the prosecutor said.

The D.A. alleges that Alexander molested the girl between Aug. 10, 2010 and Feb. 28, 2011. D.A. spokeswoman Shiara Dávila-Morales says the deputy met the girl after responding to her home for an "investigation."

If convicted he could face four years, four months behind bars.
