Bill Bratton Tapped to Head Pepper Spray Inquiry at UC Davis

Categories: Occupy L.A.

We're still waiting for the Shepard Fairey 'Hope' this shit don't sting Pepper Spray Guy icon.
UC Davis has tapped former LAPD Chief Bill Bratton to head an "independent review" of the pepper spraying felt around the world.

As recently as summer the ex-chief had been toying with the idea of heading Scotland Yard, the British police agency under fire following revelations that cops stood by as the phones of celebrities and leaders were tapped by tabloid reporters.

Now he's got to find out why a line of seated Occupy protesters ...

... was gunned down with a cloud of noxious pepper spray during a Nov. 18 protest at the campus. Video of the incident has sparked international outrage and countless internet meme photos.

Students have demanded the ouster of UC Davis Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi. So far she has stood fast, offering up the heads of others by choosing to put the campus police chief and two officers involved in the spraying on leave.

In tapping Bratton, UC president Mark G. Yudof said ...

... my intent is to provide the chancellor and the entire University of California community with an independent, unvarnished report about what happened at Davis.

Today the university announced that it was asking the local D.A. drop failure-to-disperse allegations against the 10 sprayees. It also offered to pay any medical bills related to the gassing.

rather than run to seperate corners as you requestedyesterday...John I'm here and listening...Sacramento "Mike"... Johnafter reviewing the video at your request in order to alter my understandinghere is the "other side of the story". Mute the volume when youreplay the video, watch the students "only" through the whole video. You will see non violent students, you never see a physically violentoppression of the police by university students. If words cause the officers tofear they aren't suited or trained for this type of event. When officers arecalled to this event I think they "type casted the students" asthough they were the Oakland violent type, wild and reckless. UC Davis studentsare not the sick wierdos from Occupy Oakland. The "laws" put in placeregarding protests are put in place to reduce places for public protest or whatwe used to call "freedom of speech". Lt. Pepper should be trained inrestraint and cut out the donuts as well.

Ok here you go John... you asked for the other side, it isclear that your position is skewed because of your law enforcement bias andthat is to be expected. The students are not the scum of the earth as assumedby your audience, just students. Everyday they watch the injustic and coruptionof university, corporate, political, religious, the legal system and lawenforcement. They have a first amendment right as citizens to protect, to speakout in their defense. So laws are in place to restrain our right to speak outthat does not make the law right so civil disobedience is in order in fact Iwatch so much corruption in America it is time to raise up a generation ofcivil disobedience until the whole corrupt system breaks and we return to thebasics.  The difference in this UC Davisprotest compared to Occupy Oakland is this was non-violent. If they had brokenwindows yes go to jail, if the hit a cop with a rock yes go to jail, turnedover a car yes jail. Defense must be non violent when offense is non-violent.Pepper spray is a violent act. If law enforcement is fearful of harsh wordsthey need to stay home.   John finally, you need to have a larger radio audience than "yes men" and lawenforcement friends. I respect law enforcement when their actions areappropriate and moral.

There is nothing to investigate.  Throw the peper spraying cops in jail and the Dean/Chancellor Katai out of the university.

I cannot think of a worse choice.  He's a virtual advocate for deploying weapons in crowds.

Bratton had been chief for 5 years in 2007 when his boys beat up KTLA.  He blamed them and never took any responsibility for their actions under his command.

This is putting the fox in charge of the hen house.

Nice comment and words. Everything starts from his situations at that time, no way to judge it right now!
