Occupy L.A. Appears to Help Crime in City Hall Area Nearly Triple, LAPD Says

Occupying L.A., one tent at a time.
Looks like the 99 percent is good at breaking a few laws.

LAPD statistics indicate that October-to-mid-November crime around the Occupy L.A. encampment has nearly tripled, compared to the same period last year, police tell the Weekly.

The numbers include nearly three times the number of violent and property crimes for a 45-day period that started Oct. 1, police say:

There have been 27 of such "part I" crimes reported during that time, versus 10 for the same period last year, cops say.

On top of that, there have been 102 arrests versus 60 for the same time last year, according to the LAPD.

Many of those arrests, however, lean more toward the less-serious Part II category -- things like narcotics, drinking in public, being drunk in public -- cops tell us.

The crime reporting area here is bounded by Hill Street on the west, Alameda street on the east, Temple Street on the North and Second Street on the south.

Last week we told you how the L.A. County District Attorney is charging five occupiers with crimes ranging from assault with a deadly weapon to masturbating in public.

Typical blame game of occupiers:"Things are being shoplifted, but if we could feed people better, there would probably be less of that."

So basically it is the city's fault that things are being shoplifted.

How DARE the city!

what a bullshit statistic considering that up until the Occupation there was nothing in the area and hence no reason for anyone to be there. I'm surprised there were 10 Part I's in the past 100 years

Yes but it is the city's fault that crime was forced to triple in this area. If the city was not so horribly managed, then protestors would not be forced to commit crimes. The occupiers are winning. It is only a matter of days until the city council resigns and occupiers run the city.

Hey, no worries: City Hall is negotiating with the terrorists - offering them office space and farm land.

I'm part of the 99% but I don't give a shit because the Taco Bell $1 menu is too delicious. Why would I want to punish corporations and ruin the perfect life I have shoving soft, hot burritos in my mouth?

Exactly! I'm part of the one per cent and I like soft hot burritos also! Taco Bell should rule the world! Burritos for everybody!!!

Crime has tripled and yet nothing has been done to end this aimless protest. A great thank you to this rise in crime must be handed out to our ball-less mayor and the feeble do-nothing-unless-it-means-money-in-our-pocket city council. They have all violated their oath to serve and protect this city. Time to recall them all.
