You miss the days when L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa made headlines not for his politics but for his dating policy?

Alas, look no further than the little city to the north, San Fernando, which appears to be embroiled in a full-on, true-life telenovela, complete with a cheating mayor and a wife who appeared to confront him at a public council meeting.

Good stuff, right? The San Fernando Sun newspaper has all the juicy deets.

According to the paper it started last Monday with this strange announcement by Mayor Mario Hernandez:

I'd like to put out there, 'to squash the rumors,' that yes, I have been in a relationship with Councilwoman (Maribel) De La Torre.

And the studio audience goes wooooo. (Check out audio of the session here.)

Somewhat hilariously the public proclamation of love (or lust?) at the meeting came after the mayor declared that he has lost his business and filed for bankruptcy.

But wait, there's more.

Hizzoner's wife was in the audience. She reportedly stepped up to say:

That's why I'm here ... I'm his wife...we weren't separated.

It doesn't end there. Hernandez then tried to have her forcibly removed by cops for interrupting the meeting, the Sun reports.

Councilwoman Sylvia Ballin said she was disgusted and gave the mayor's wife a hug, says the paper.

The mayor then appeared to have ended the meeting early.

We'll leave it at that. Except that this is happening with a backdrop of much dirt and alleged political hanky panky in San Fern. We'll suggest that you read the Sun for all that good stuff. Make sure to have some chocolate handy.

I remember Mario from high school when he was a good, smart young man. Now look what he has become, a shame to the community, our people, and his family. Another pendejo who can't seem to think with the right head. Mario and his lover should move out of SF and go hide far away from the public eye. They are both a disgrace.

San Fernando has been ruined.  For many years it was a bustling little town, but that's not the way it is today.  There was a time when shopping and visiting there was a pleasant experience.  Now, it's a virtual wasteland of shuttered businesses that have dried up in part because of the economy and also because no one in city government is doing anything to encourage new businesses back into the City.  They ain't doing it because they are too busy doing each other, and that is where this nonsense needs to stop.

The City of San Fernando contains a potential labor pool that is second to none.  Some of the brightest minds in the nation, young and old, call San Fernando their home.  It is the responsibility of the City Council to cultivate new businesses so that they will be able to find a job and a career.  They have failed in doing that.

Further, with a scandal like this one, all over the news and all over the internet, any chance of future business coming into the City is now also ruined.  It almost begs the question of whether Hernandez & Delatorre actually hate San Fernando so much that they created this mess intentionally.  The children of San Fernando look up to purportedly professional adults and elected officials who are supposed to be role models.  What Hernandez & Delatorre have taught them is that it's okay to act without scruples and it's okay to bed hop on the job.

The good people of San Fernando should stand up and tell them in a very loud and clear voice that the party is over.  Any San Fernando resident who does not see the connection between the financial downfall of the city and the Hernandez-Delatorre scandal deserves to live in the very best toilet that the city has become.  A recall will be expensive, but leaving the city as it is will cost far more in the long run.

Every day that passes is another lost opportunity to bring new business into the city.  I do not want two members of my City Council sleeping together because I want fairness and impartiality in every independent vote that is taken in each and every Council Meeting.  You cannot have that when two councilmembers talk over the pillows.

I also want retail businesses and manufacturing jobs brought into the city.  I also want technologically based businesses to come here and bring good paying careers for the graduates of our fine schools and Mission College.  I want City Government to be a model for the rest of the nation.  I want San Fernando to be featured in newspaper articles and magazines in a good and positive way, so that people would actually want to do business there.

Both of these councilmembers need to resign and if they do not, then it is time for the constituency to clean house.

Smart does not replace "Character". These two have no morals, Maribel has been tooting her horn for far too long, time for a change. She is obviously in the wrong profession, her reputation has finally caught up to her. Cochina!!!! Mario you need to make decisions with the "right head". Pendejo!!!!!!

There will be no Nativity in San Fernando this year.Yesterday, the California Supreme Court ruled there cannot be a Nativity Scene anywhere in San Fernando this year because no one has been able to find Three Wise Men in City Hall. They are still searching for a Virgin, but they do seem to have found enough asses to fill the stable.(corrected)

In this day in age where fewer people get along, divorce is rampant and most people seem to be so self absorbed & self righteous it's ridiculous I say be careful what standards you hold others up too. Karma and righteous equality can be a bitch!  People smart and otherwise make good choices and bad.  I haven't walked in either one's shoes nor would I care too.I guess the "ex" wife is telling the truth? Yes scorned (allegedly) women are known for that!Mayor, nice of you to share......apparently all the openness &"transparency" everyone talks about is a pill that proves a little harder to swallow!  As long as they are running the city correctly I don't care! There are other things a tad bit more important in my life to focus on!

Behind every great man is a woman...Behind the fall of every great man is "another" woman...

ha ha ha Mayor Hernandez, now you're just a joke, having your d*ck sucked in chambers a "relationship" does not makeWhats the matters Ms DeLaTorre, not enough single guys to go around?.Hey somebody get her a scarlett letter,Hollywood is calling for the rights....They're going to name it"When Smart People Do Stupid Stuff"

Let me see if I have this right:

You say the Mayor was in a closed session, engaging in oral copulation in chambers, and none of us were invited?  Does anyone know if any City Business was discussed?  Were any City Government Decisions made?

Was there was a happy ending?  Is there audio or video?  Does anyone have a transcript?  Were they discussing job creation and budget matters?  Did this happen on City Time, or was this an after-hours meeting?  Did either of these people cash their Taxpayer Funded Paychecks afterward?

It is astonishing that a woman of DelaTorre's caliber who is "college educated" and comes from a "strong valued" background is mindless enough to have a relationship with a MARRIED MAN. I also grew up on the streets of San Fernando and as chicana women we should be portraying ourselves proudly and respectfully. She has allowed herself to be labeled as the OTHER woman & everything  she has done for the city of San Fernando may quickly be overlooked by so many because of her irresponsible behavior.  For anyone who watched the evening news and heard how the mayor aired their dirty laundry, residents outside the city are probably thinking that San Fernando residents dont know how to act!! Hernandez & DeLaTorre should be ashamed of themselves!! for the record... THEY NEVER LEAVE THE WIFE!!!

So how do you feel about SF Chief of Police, Marco Anthony Ruelas, and his "fling" with police cadet, Ms. Barjas, who is currently suing the City of San Fernando for unlawful termination after being "forced" out of the PD under questionable circumstances? Case # BC 459915. Or COP Ruelas' reinstatement by City Council and Mayor Hernandez? Or for that matter, the "The Sun's" exposure of the extramarital affair between Councilwoman Esqueda and SFPD Sgt. Castellon, and any conflict of interest it may have had with the Barjas case? In particular, when Esqueda, De La Torre, and Hernandez aided Castellon when Acting Chief Jacobs attempted to investigate Sgt.Castellon and his involvement in the Ruelas-Barjas case? And how about the arrest of SFPD Dispatcher, H. Martinez, for indecent exposure by the LAPD? Sure busy in San Fer. Maybe the gang injunction should include the City Council, the Mayor, and police department administrators? I'm all for "let he without sin cast the first stone," but it appears a good house cleaning is in order...maybe even an exorcism.

Always had respect for Ms. De La Torre but I have to agree with Ms. Rodriguez.  Not only is he married but he has no job....he is a loser.

I hope the rest of the leadership of that city gets back to the business of the city.

If he has any remnants of shame and/or morals left in his corrupt little body, he would resign immediately and let the city start the long process of rebuilding without his obstruction.
