Los Angeles Has America's Top 3 'Congested Corridors,' Including 110 Freeway: We Waste a Lot of Gas, Too

Yeah baby. L.A.'s number one once again when it comes to the nation's top "congestion leaders," e.g. f----- up freeways. In fact we grabbed seven of the top 10 spots in the Texas Transportation Institute's inaugural Congested Corridors Report.
Number one (with a bullet)?
The 110 Harbor Freeway from the 10 to Stadium Way (the study actually calls that stretch the Harbor Freeway, but we'll forgive them, for they are Texans).
The real Harbor Freeway from 111th Place to the 10 actually made second place.
And the 405 from the 105 to Getty Center Drive actually took third.

The study looked at 328 corridors across the nation, so that's impressive.
The Associated Press today sliced up the study a different way and also noted that Californians are the biggest fuel-wasters in America too. (Pats on the back, high fives):
Californians are among the top fuel-wasting drivers in the nation, burning up more than 38 million gallons in the most congested roadways last year ... Seven of the top 10 fuel-wasting stretches were in Los Angeles, accounting for more than 38 million wasted gallons of gasoline and diesel in 2010, researchers found.
The fix? Money, of course. Tim Lomax, the study's author:
If cities and states make the right investments in our most congested highway corridors, the return on those investments will be substantial. Not only will we see more reliable trips for travelers and trucks, but we can also expect to see greater productivity and more jobs.
