• While the person filming this "tantrum" (let's call it what it is) is no doubt provoking the outburst, the young woman's response is still over the top and unnecessary.  Its a library, people!  People talk (they're not supposed to, BUT THEY DO!!!) Its final week and people are gathering, exchanging notes, helping others out who get stuck on a problem, passing around bags of M&Ms to keep the energy up, etc.  If others talking was bothering her, then the woman should have found a library employee, who would have approached the other women, given them a verbal warning to keep their voices low and, if they continue to violate the rules, then escort them out.  Simple!  BTW, the library rule is not "NO TALKING" its "PLEASE WHISPER!"

• Once again how exactly do you know what transpaired before the video started , you can only assume right! What if she where really high string or just plain nutts , which she appears ? If her complains where unfounded , like if they where just whispering woulded they be in fact defending themselves even if callously so.And so it is perfectly ok I assume for her to disturb the rest of the people studing with her very loud fit because she was upset.Did any of you self rightous folks notice that she was not just mad at those girls but whole libary "what wrong with you what wrong with all of you " as she indicates everyone present , I am sure  there where other asian there. • sorry but what they did is not really all that bad. they were merely recording someone they perceived to be behaving stupidly or all out of proportion to whatever problem there was. it's quite a normal thing to do nowadays...i mean, people have hd video on their phones, cameras, and mp3 players. people are always videotaping stuff. it was the asian girl who was behaving foolishly; the videographers were just being childish. if she wasn't behaving so strangely, they probably would not have recorded it. i've seen far worse/revealing stuff on youtube. i also find it hard to believe you'd got any "good" black friends. where do you hide your sheet? lmao.

Jeez, man, it's a university library, 99% of the people who go there expect it to be a quiet place to study and read.  That expectation should be respected because it makes sense. The other 1% end up ruining it of course, when they could go outside (this is California after all), go to a coffee shop, go back to their dorms or apartments, even the front lobby of the library, anywhere else, but no, they have no courtesy for others and treat the world like their own private playground, not caring about how it affects other people.  Completely inconsiderate.  What the hell kind of name is Londen anyway? 

• Seriously? Why should she have to do that? It's the library... not a bar, not the cafeteria, not the dorms, not outside... you get the idea.  So many other places at a university where you can socialize, talk on your cell phone, make all the noise you want and most of those places aren't too far awayfrom the library either.  The library is supposed to be a place that is QUIET where you can concentrate on reading and studying.  People who can't respect that irritate me to no end. Also, unlike so many people posting here, I care nothing about the ethnicity of the woman in this video or the people behind the camera, or how smart they may or may not have been.  People come to a library to quietly read and study and not have to hear noise from others.  CASE CLOSED.

• actually, this girl has aspergers ( a form of autism) and she may not have understood the appropriate way to take care of the situation. She goes to my school and is in a friend's class. I can't even believe this is on here... people obviously don't think about the backgrounds of people's lives and they automatically want to judge. I really hope she doesn't find out about this video. It will be devastating to her. We should all think a bit more about the people we target and things we post. 

• Regarding your UC comment - I went to a UC school for engineering, busted my balls and graduated with a 2.6 GPA. I went to a Cal State school for grad. studies immediately following undergrad, got a 3.9 GPA and barely opened up the book. Does that sound like a difference?

• JW, Anita Hill graduated valedictorian of her predominantly white high school ( Clarence Thomas did NOT earn such a distinction).  She went on to do well at Yale Law  School. The first black female astronaut in space has a medical degree,  a Phd in Chemistry, another in Physics AND she is a dramatic actress on the side for EXTRA coolness. (she excitedly made her debut on Star Trek).  For, rest assured, in the black community, a REAL black woman in space with a medical degree and a Phd in chemistry IS cool,  :)

• Exactly.  I am in law school and I am always amazed at the students that treat the library like their living room--chatting away, answering their cell phones (even though cell phones are "prohibited"--LOL!). This has nothing to do with race, but everything to do with culture.  Americans in general cannot even conceive of any place where they should not be allowed to socialize and entertain themselves.  Good luck asking for some decorum--you'll be treated like you're "crazy"--like this girl.  I'm American, but I much preferred going to school in England, where they take academics seriously--but go by the rule of "work hard, play hard."

• Let us move beyond the ethnicity here. It could have been any combo of race involved. The point is that one group was rude and one person over reacted. That is all. There is no philosophical discourse to be had here nor a conclusive sociological motif. However as always, the comments that follow are always more telling. My personal belief is that social degradation starts with tolerance to the smallest of social misetiquette. I grew up in the 80's when we still had enough conviction left in us to think about others and to comply with common sense social compliance, vis a vis, ergo, being quiet in the library. There is no such thing as 'Asian behavior' in the library, no more than there is 'Black behavior' in a market. There are however 'Foreign behavior', in context particularly foreign students. And I do believe foreigners should try their best to learn and adopt some common etiquette and custom while their stay here, but hey, we have to leave room for some tolerance and understanding here, lest we forget the  'rude American tourists' that the French accuse us of. Although she over reacted, we need more Americans to be like that. Especially the younger generations. Otherwise we are facing a generation that will leave quietly when they hear a rape victim across the hall, or leave a man bleeding in the streets to be robbed...if we can't stand up to rudeness, we can't stand up to evil.

• It's really sad that a couple of girls who have nothing better to do, filmed this poor girl. It doesn't matter if she's Asian, or any other race; ridiculing someone else is disrespectful. The week of finals is really stressful, and it's hard to study with people talking/goofing off, so it's understandable that she told those girls off. Besides, the library should be a place where you can quietly read and study. Some libraries even have Maximum Quiet floors, which I have gone to, to study before; however, there have been plenty of times I've heard people talking and listening to really loud music, which is really annoying, due to the fact that it is a maximum quiet floor. If they want to talk and study, or whatever, those girls should have gone somewhere else like a coffee shop. It really wasn't nice of them to egg her on like that. Also, it seems like they knew beforehand that she was going to confront them. It could be that even before the film was shot, she asked them politely to quiet down. And maybe for a bit they did, but then started up again. Otherwise, how would they have possibly gotten all of that footage without knowing something would happen?

• I do not understand why the writer of this article felt it necessary to comment that the videographers of this incident, "...sound black,...".  I didn't think there was anything black-sounding about them, nor do I understand why that is relevant to the story.  So what if the freaker-outer is Asian, and so what if the videographers are black?  This is an amusing incident no matter what color the principals are.  Perhaps the real story is the fact that you can't record someone without their knowledge and permission in CA.  That is why no one will take credit for this video.

• It's funny how people are saying that it's hurting Asian people and that they are singling out the Asian woman in this video. Yet, in this article the writer says that the women behind the video camera "sound like their black" and I say to that what do black women sound like? Let me know now so the next time I go somewhere I will know how I should and shouldn't sound. My point is an article can't be written saying that a race is being singled out and then single out another race based off of a stereotype of what they should sound like. It's very hypocritical.

• It seems it has to do with the decibel level, or  in Alexandra Wallace's case, dumb bell level. In the Wallace video, it was an attempt at an audition tape that failed on three levels. 1. Her timing was a atrocious. Japan had just been victimized by a killer tsunami, and Wallace was bitching about people trying to contact relatives in Japan. 2. Wallace was racism went beyond tasteless, indicating that because Asians were frantically raising the decibel level, that they were "ordained" to suffer the consequences of a natural disaster. Had the Viking Admiration Society held their meeting in Tokyo at the same time, would she have complained as bitterly? 3. Her video was just plain lousy. Her timing was atrocious. In this video, the subject is shot with a back view and side view. She's difficult to see and there's no close up. It has all the nuance of annoying children going through the young woman's sock drawer and giggling over hidden photographs. It is only when the video ends, that we are made aware of the true danger. In an unrelated video, we see, the now familiar figure in the Guy Fawkes mask, informing us, that we need to be occupied. It's really ingenious, in that, the video, itself, is, so nondescript. It would have gone unnoticed had the filmer not rammed it up our noses. For now, it comes off as racist, because, the first subject is Asian. But. is she the last? Is this a warning, that we can all be put up on YouTube at any time? Is this a warning to put on our Guy Fawkes masks or risk public humiliation? • Everyone knows what the library is for. By the time you are in college you should be mature enough to handle the responsibilities of your own actions. If she doesn't have the library to study and expect silence and solitude where she can access material, which is what the library is for, then where can she go? The group of children, that haven't grown up yet, that video taped her shouldn't have even been there. They were obviously not utilizing the building so leave and go play video games or something. • Culture clash going on here.  Blacks value what behaviors or actions they perceive as cool over almost anything from my observation and association with handful of AA men and women.  Contrastigly, the proverbial uncool asians don't care less, they get down to business and business for them is to excel at school, notion ingrained into their fabric from not only parents but family member and friends that perpetrate and hold this value.

• it's weird how people think this girl's nutty behaviour is justified. if she had a problem, she should have gotten up and walked away. i'm sure the library is big and there are many places to study. at my college - and i went to one far more competitive than csun - nobody would ever do something like this. an intelligent person would have gotten up and walked away, or reported the alleged loud talkers to the library's staff. also, nobody seems to know what preceded this incident - the chatter that so disturbed the girl - so the assumptions that are being made about the evilness of the videographer are also strange. imo, the girl was losing her mind. but i suspect she had issues before this incident because i can't imagine something as small as someone talking in the library, don't care what time of year it is, could make someone in their right mind just go off. she's obviously incredibly stressed and the girls who filmed this are just amused by her inability to get a grip on the situation.

• This is just another example of social skills lacking by the Asian community. The Asian culture is often repressed and when Asian Americans express themselves it is often viewed as  "awkward, irrational and/or humorous" due to their inexperience socializing within society.This woman will not leave the other kids in "the dust" as mentioned by Dannyclarke11 (probably a Asian American), but will probably be repressed as well and pushed to the back like most Asian Americans are. It is not that they are less intelligent or a flawed race... it's just the actions continuously displayed in society and videos such as this that are evidence to why why Asians are hard to take seriously to others outside the Asian race. By supporting that society thinks your behaviors can be taken irritating (especially when driving..jeeezzz), awkward, hilarious (not in a good way) ect  , may allow understanding and insight to why society overlooks you! • I completely empathize with her anger. She had the right to be angry. But she also acted like a child and was probably frightening to the other students (who also deserved to study in peace, without watchinig her rant). She could have actually prevented any personal embarrassment by these rude jackasses had she calmly walked up to a librarian/employee and told them what was going on. Being loud and harrassing others is not allowed in any library I've ever heard of. They would have been told to leave, she wouldn't be on disply right now, she would have wasted less of her time and it would be much less heartache for her right now, as I'm sure she must be feeling pretty humiliated. The whole talk to the librarian thing actually works. I have utilized that option several times, myself. It's not a big deal. Yeah, it sucks, some people are just rude. But there's a way to solve it, also.
